  • BMW n63 engine timing when you replace the valve stem seals, change chain, replace the head gaskets or somehow remove camshafts in any other way. The video has the proper way to do it with all the little details that other videos are missing, for instance in what position you put the camshafts.

    Thanks for the video. I have a S63 in the middle of valve stem seal replacement. Engine in car, valve covers off, started to set time for cam removal with AGA tools. Rotating clockwise a bit reached a hard stop, short of reaching MP. Engine would rotate back a little, then stop when going forward at same place. Saw in TIS that it is OK to back rotate as long as chains were tensioned. Still had tensioners in place, so spun the engine nearly a full revolution backwards and achieved MP mark for crankshaft and all four cams are dead on with timing check plate. Interestingly, with timing tools removed, the engine will only turn a little forward and little backwards. Feels like a hard stop in both direction now. Ever seen something like this?

    Aren’t you suppose to apply tension to the chain before you tighten the cam bolts? Because the tensioner will still have slight slack in it

    You did not use the tensioning tool.
    10:38. You had to press the alignment tool to tell yourself timing is set. It is not.
    Your timing is off.

    • @zeedee4836
      @zeedee4836 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      So at 150 degrees before tdc (cylinder 1)seems that no pistons are at top dead center . Therefore you can rotate the cams 360 degrees without contacting the pistons..

      Sure. I will publish very, very important video about one flaw of BMW engines that is killing engines (especially n63). Probably in a week or two. Don't have time at all. And the solution how to fix it.

    • @niwayansuarmini8305

      @@waspsps sure no problem thanks! my bearing shells got destroyed and that destroyed my crankshaft. so I decided to buy either a new engine block or a complete short block. im in Paris. France the complete block is 20k here, its bit excessive so I think best solution is to buy an engine block and reassemble. what do you think?

    • @waspsps
      @waspsps  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@niwayansuarmini8305 , wow! 20k is a lot! I did both - rebuild an engine and bought a new one. The rebuild - was about $3k in parts! You probably need to grind the crankshaft - and it's pretty expensive since they need to harden it. If you can get cheap parts and good mechanic to rebuild it - go for it. But try BMW dealership to get a new motor. You will be surprised but it might be worth it! Don't buy a used motor - it won't last long.

    • @waspsps
      @waspsps  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Since you are already at the point of rebuilding. Change the thermostat to 90 degree one. That's the video I'm about to make. BMW made those engines run on 105 degrees! It's crazy!!! That kills all gaskets and pretty much everything.

    • @niwayansuarmini8305
      @niwayansuarmini8305 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@waspsps fixing the crankshaft is abit risky I think. BMW ECU is really picky, im a bit afraid. I think my option will be to rebuild with a new engine block. Here in Paris the engine block is 5K. you are actually right I was thinking of solutions to keep my engine cool, because 105 is too hot, mine could go up to 115 when speeding on low gear. where can I find the 90 degree thermostat ?

      On this motor the exhaust is on the inside because the turbos sit in the middle of the engine this is called a hot vee design. The intake manifolds are on the outside of the head.

    This timing guide apply to the N63 twin turbo? Also having intake Vanos and crankshaft code. Any ideas where can I start checking to get rid of those code. Vanos solenoid were remove and clean

    • @waspsps
      @waspsps  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi. You are correct, my engine was n63 twin turbo. The timing is very straight forward. You either put it right, or completely wrong. So, to have few degrees off - it's not the case with timing. It could very likely be reason of dirty vanos solenoids. I had this issue when some dirt from oil (from the first start of the engine there were somehow lots of dirt) got stuck on the vanos mesh/metal net. If you are getting codes of early /late timing - I think it's either vanos (4 of them need to be checked) or loose chain.

      Hi! Yes, you are absolutely right about the new engine. It's complete. So, surely, on the new engine, I didn't do it. BUT!
