This is the best technique I've seen. I have a lot of ruffles to do for a project and I'm using this technique. SO much better than the rolled hem foot. Much less fiddly and a lot faster.

What a breath of fresh air you are Vera. No fancy equipment but what a very fine job you’ve done. I tend to just watch and not comment, but you had my attention from the beginning. Thank you for some very useful, no nonsense sewing which I will put to the test when I take up a dress that I’ve been putting off doing. Thank you again and I shall be looking out for more of your videos.

Although experienced with serging, I'll often hem as you just did also because of the control and evenness. You are a master seamstress and a joy to watch. :-)

I don't have a roll hem foot. I'm new to sewing and learning from videos like yours. I didn't even know roll hem feet existed until I got to this step. Thanks for this video, now I can finish my project!

Thank you for this. Very timely for me as I just bought a beautiful gown with a chiffon overlay that needs to be hemmed. This looks easy. I had to laugh a bit because you sounded just like my mom use to when you said..."look at this, see.. look at this" Brought a big smile to my face and made me think of her 💕💗

this is much better than cutting and then stitching the tiny bit of fabric and zigzag roll or even serger - which you'
ve got to stabilize etc. I much prefer your method. Seems like I did something like that way back when I had my alterations business and chewed up a chiffon hem with the serger, and then stumbled on a similar procedure. Thanks for reinforcing this best practice.

Thank you for this video. Stayed up till midnight pondering and pricing narrow hem foot for my 45 year old Kenmore "super high shank" machine. I did order some new needles and am confident that I can alter the length on that bridesmaid dress for my daughter. This is such a common sense way to do this job. Thanks, God Bless!

  • @valeriepurcell5229

Thank You SO MUCH for this. After freaking out that I had 1 day to shorten a bridesmaid gown (2 satin layers + chiffon over layer) I came to TH-cam to get tips. I have a lot of years of successful sewing, but NOT with chiffon! I saw about a dozen vids that told me I had to do about 6 or 7 steps, using tissue paper or other stabilizers, etc.... THANK GOD I FOUND YOURS! U have given me confidence I probably shouldnt even have! Ok, wish me luck, here I go!

  • @donnas2605

OMG ... Thank you ... Thank you ... Thank you. I have tried for years to use a roll hem foot and could never get the hang of that darn thing and because of that I have stayed away from chiffons and all delicate fabrics. I will definitely try this technique. You have just made my day!

Lady you have saved my life! Thank God - you're genius! I have 5 gowns to hem this week for my daughter who is going to Opera school in Austria for 2 months and I was agonizing on how to hem up these beautiful bargain dresses we ordered online that were crazy 8 inches TOO LONG! I hate chiffon to work with - but you've made this understandable and so much easier than I had imagined! THANK YOU!!!

That is so amazing! I had an alterations shop for years with my husbands tuxedo shop and I had several rolled hem feet with my industrial machine and starting on an edge of something square, not round like a scarf was always a pain because you had nothing to hold on to, to help pull it through to get started! I will forever use this technique! Thank you for sharing!

Good job for a first video Vera! I remember this technic from many years ago but I had forgotten all about it! We get all this new stuff that is suppose to help us and I agree some do but it is just like learning to do arithmetic, calculators have us so spoiled our children can't count their change! May I suggest you get a tripod for your video's it will give you a steady video and people won't feel like they are riding on a boat! Once again thanks for taking the time to help us.
