FZ09 gear position sensor swap

- Apparently the FZ09’s ECM uses the gear position sensor to adjust mapping for its power modes. So it’s probably best to have a properly working sensor, don’tcha think? Cleaning mine didn’t help, so here’s a quick how-to on swapping it.
This bike is a 2014, but it should be the same for all years. The FZ07 is likely quite similar as well.
Tighten all fasteners to the appropriate torque per the manual, if you care. Hope this helps and thanks for watching!

Thanks for the video... made changing this out a breeze! Especially how to unfasten the plugs. Just a couple of things for anyone else doing this 1) The official part #'s for gen 1 bikes (may be the same for gen 2) are as follows, 1RC-82540-00 Neutral Switch Assy., 39210-21001 O-ring, and if for some reason you need the bolts 90110-05067 Bolt, Hexagon Socket Head. 2) QUICK TIP! It makes life easier if you affix a length of wire, or pipe cleaner, or bottle brush, or whatever you have handy to the old plug as you remove it so you'll be able to fish the new one back along the same route with ease.
Is this the same as crank position sensor? In getting that error on mine
No, I believe that sensor is off the smaller wire from the stator.
Very helpful, especially on location of the 2 wiring harnesses and how to disengage them as Yamaha uses many types of release mechanisms on their electrical connectors. Also agree cleaning did not help. Appears to be a supplier issue for Yamaha (bad soldering on the side of the sensor sealed with epoxy).
definitely a soldering issue .. resoldeted multiple times but now I think I just need to pull the trigger on a new one..

I tried doing that and cleaning it and nothing. On the gauge, it doesn’t display what gear I’m in the neutral green light
Re-soldering it is more effective, most of the MT09 gear sensors suffer from poor soldering contacts.
Do you have the part number and can you please provide me with it?
It should be 1RC-82540-00-00 for the 2014 fz09.

Does your old sensor show blank gears or do gears disappear on display?
Aaron pee The old sensor did various random stuff. Sometimes certain gears wouldn’t show, then the display wouldn’t show any gears, then it would work, then another gear went missing, etc. Swapped the sensor and all is well.
@@themotofirm mine flashed in 5th gear, replaced under warranty. Probably a bad solder joint on the 5th gear wire.
What is the code for the gear sensor
Assuming you’re asking about a dash code...there was no code. The sensor just kept going blank or showing the wrong gear intermittently. Cleaning it didn’t help, but swapping it solved the issue. Cheers!
