Tacoma 4.0 head gasket repair tips! (1GRFE)
Motorcyclists often have trucks. Those trucks are often Tacomas. And sometimes, those have head gasket failures. I learned a LOT before tackling this job myself. I read forums, watched videos, dug through the FSM, and talked to the dealership. My goal was to do a better job, with better parts, all for half the price of a shop.
Here are the finer details that are lacking or confusing in the sources I found, to give you the confidence you need to attempt this with success.
The Tundra and 4Runner also had this motor FYI. Mine is a 2005 Tacoma Trd OR (unfortunately a known head gasket issue year, until halfway through 06).
BONUS TIPS:
DO replace your head bolts and washers.
DON’T replace your timing set and chain (assuming it’s in good shape with bright paint marks).
These head bolts are a 10mm double hex, NOT a triple square. Do NOT use a triple square since the angles are sharper and will damage the bolt head.
CTA Tools 9292 is what I used, nice tool!

Husaberg FE570 water pump seal replacement and weep hole mod
มุมมอง 1.6K2 ปีที่แล้ว
There are two seals for your Husaberg's water pump shaft: one for coolant and one for engine oil. There is a space between them along with a hole, so if either seal leaks, the fluid will exit the engine to warn you. When Husaberg turned the engine at its funky angle, they never changed the weep hole, so it points straight forward into oncoming dirt. The mod addresses this issue to prevent junk ...
2017+ R6 Footpeg Replacement (the easy/cheap way)
มุมมอง 8K2 ปีที่แล้ว
To replace the right footpeg with an oem part, you would have to buy the footpeg/bracket assembly. This requires removing the whole rearset and the bolt from the rear of the peg bracket. Orrrr for about $7.50 you can buy some cheapies and just swap the peg itself.

03-06 Cbr600rr Lazy CCT Fix
มุมมอง 30K3 ปีที่แล้ว
It seems CBRs have some auto CCT issues like many other bikes, which can cause noisy timing chains and potentially serious damage. This is a 2006 Cbr600rr, with basically the same motor as 03-05, and similar to 2007 . This can help free up a sticky CCT, but if your noise continues, look into a replacement or a manual tensioner.

How did you get your carb sooo clean?? I used carb cleaners and still has a little oxidation.
This carb was already pretty clean. But Napa has a spray, think it’s called aluminum brightener, helps clear up oxidation. Used it one engine cases, should work on the carb body.
trying this tomorrow on my k3 gsxr 1000
Hello, what would you do for a 2007 gsxr 600 that starts and sometimes not? New battery and she was fine a day ago, then after she dont start again, I have an original clutch handle, but even in neutral with kickstand it does not want to start, it engages from time to time but starts just doesn't, or starts, or makes no noise, sorry for my english !
Thanks!
What a great video thank you brother
Right on thank you
That's was great man! I need get me a set of carb tools just like urs!! 👍
The carb tools (welding torch cleaners also work) are around $10, and a set of cheapy micro drills is around $15, thanks!
I think that's the hole the accelerator pump pushes gas thru.
3 years later still helping and the best video
Have to this on my GS550, except it lives under the carbs so rhey will have to come off and possibly the cam chain tensioner. Boohoo
Muchas gracias ,estaba buscando esta info para mi f700
The manual will give you dimensions to make that key for the cct. Fyi it has shoulders on it so it will not turn.
The best and most helpful video on these carbs, they are a damn labyrinth!
Yeah it’s wild! Thanks
Mais um inscrito no seu canal Tenho uma XL 250r estou fazendo o mesmo projeto saudações do Brasil São Paulo Jundiaí
that was great!! working on a 72 TS185 ran rough, then it ran wide open. crashed into the garage! thought maybe bad crank seals. Carb was cleaned, but will check jetting. maybe mine are messed up. Great video Moto Man!
Awesome thorough vid !
Thank you!
Thanks for tips. I used a fein saw, that also did the job👌
Right on, thanks!
Im waiting patiently for the kit for my 78', Yatzu, and i didn't know about the C-clip open positioning. Thank you for this whole lesson Sir. Know of any original petcocks for sale?
I don’t. I usually find em on eBay, or rebuild the old ones with oem parts
Thank you for sharing
My wife HATES the passenger seating position. Any ideas on how to adjust it?
THANK YOU!!! Exactly what my problem was!
Sweet! Glad it helped
Thank you so much!
Looks and sounds cracking.
Thanks dude
Thanks for the advice. Going to try thus fix today on my cbr 600f
So there is a golden little piece there next to the main jet. Where does that go?
Took a while to figure out what you meant, I assume at 3:32? That is the needle jet, basically a guide for the needle, and makes the hole visible from the inside when you’re lowering the needle down into place. It presses lightly into the carb body from the bowl side, before the main jet and jet holder go in. Countersunk (tapered bore) goes toward the needle. I don’t typically mess with them since they don’t do much and don’t really go bad, but maybe I replaced this one since the kit had it, not sure.
I have a trout tattoo too
I've got a 92 750 Nighthawk. So much more simple. No air cutoff valves, no accelerator pumps. You do have a bank of 4 carbs of course. You have to go through all those passages, most miss that.
Someone in the CBR forum posted about your video. Hopefully it helps my Rebel 500 that has over 65k miles, but I did order the part prior to finding the forum today.
Excellent video, just helped me fix mine. Wouldn’t start all of a sudden, found exactly the same problem. Sorted the spring loaded motor brush and the bike fired into life.
Im back 7 months later. Still not ready to do my valves. Will need a torque wrench. What's the condition of your valve stem seals ?
Never checked them, bike doesn’t eat oil so I assume they’re alright
It doesn't work, save time get a manual tensioner, set it and forget it. I replaced my OEM with a manual on my 05 600RR in 2008 it's now 2024, I never had to adjust it 37,000 miles later
I have the same bike I layed it down not hard it's making that sound what cct dis you ordered I want the same one.
Thank you so much for the video! I don't think I'd have even attempted to disassemble the starter without this. Saved me a few hundred bucks! Great video. Thanks again.
Desperately wanting to see the end result, did you finish it ?
Sorry, been messing with a lot of other projects and videos! But I’m officially starting on episode 4!
Excellent Mod. I am rebuilding a 72 TS185 and somebody really hacked up the old bulb. For the life of me I could not figure out how the original worked. Now I have a solution! Thanks.
Such an annoying design by Yamaha with this. Of course this is the peg that broke for me too. LOL Thanks for the vid.
Great Job 👏 👏👏thanks for sharing! I just bought a 1970 CT-90 and am having the same issue you had 😮 so I will be cleaning the carburetor as you have🤩
Great detail.
I am also switching from V to a singles now... Cool build!! What mufler was that?
Just a no name Amazon one, didn’t do a whole lot of muffling!
Wow great rebuild. 👍🏾👍🏾
Dude is rocking the hell outta that mullet 😎
Hell yeah brother
I made a tool by cutting a screwdriver shank to 21/2" Then bent the last half inch 90% useing a torch lighter. That gave laverage. Do this before buying anything. And turn counter clockwise to the left. To add tension.
Thanks man mine acting up
Dude thanks so much ! This video helped me big time.
The xt 350 holds a special place in my brain, love that bike love that motor.
Thank you for this
Is this the same for my 1986 T T3 50?
It’s going to be very similar as they are almost the same bike. I’d verify that the clearance specs are the same and have at it.
Great persistence and duly rewarded!
This happened to mine as well Thanks for the help easy fix
Right on, wondered how common this would be 👍
I do believe this is the only video on TH-cam that methodically explains setting the valve clearance on XT 350s. The part that explains how to calculate what shims are needed was particularly helpful. Especially how you organized the information in the notebook. Im currently rebuilding my engine and im currently finishing the top end and at the part where I need to check valve clearance. Thanks for sharing
This is basically what I aim for in my videos so I greatly appreciate the comment! Glad it helped, thanks
Thanks for the video... made changing this out a breeze! Especially how to unfasten the plugs. Just a couple of things for anyone else doing this 1) The official part #'s for gen 1 bikes (may be the same for gen 2) are as follows, 1RC-82540-00 Neutral Switch Assy., 39210-21001 O-ring, and if for some reason you need the bolts 90110-05067 Bolt, Hexagon Socket Head. 2) QUICK TIP! It makes life easier if you affix a length of wire, or pipe cleaner, or bottle brush, or whatever you have handy to the old plug as you remove it so you'll be able to fish the new one back along the same route with ease.
Awesome!
