Hi, I'm 80 and grew up on chocolate mayo cake. Was grown before I found out that not all chocolate cakes weren't mayo cake. When you talk about flowers in the garden,my Dad who was a great gardener, always said veggies for the body, flowers for the soul. Love your videos.

I love how you interact and spend time with your family. Its rare anymore. People are always rushing and working trying to survive. I understand the necessity of it. But as a momma whose four sons and my husband of thirty eight years has all gained their angel wings, I wish I had taken time to spend more quality time with my four sons and made more memories. I have many and my sons were my world but unfortunately I had to work to support my family as my husband was injured at a young age. Now I am alone with just memories. Please don't miss a moment, time is fleeting and life is very precious. No one knows what tomorrow holds. Walter forever twenty three, Scott forever twenty six, Mathew for ever one year old and my baby boy Nick forever thirty three. Dad forever fifty two.
Ohhhh that's FUN!!! You need a flying saucer! They are the BEST!!! Ooooh do you remember those crazy things we would strap to our boots? What were they called??? .... Super sliders or something?? They were deadly. But I'm old and now I just want to go tobogganing. LOL
From what I’ve seen, all the homesteaders who started freeze drying would never go back! With just me, my husband & son (18) it’s not an expense that makes sense for us but the ideas are endless! Just look at what 1870s Homestead have done! Turning processed tomato peels/seeds into powder for tomato paste. Soup stock veggies into seasonings. Can’t wait to see your experiments!

I'm from Quebec and just recently realized why the cheese curd in the west is not sqeeky. In Quebec supermarkets, the curd cheese is not kept in fridges and because as soon as it gets refrigerated you loose the squeekiness. Now, why that cheese doesn't need to be in the fridge I don't know. Great video! Thank you!
Growing up with a Canadian mother, french fries and brown gravy was something we loved. We lived in Ontario for two years and had a hill behind our house that we would sled down on our Toboggan. We were all small so we could fit like 6 kids on it. It was so much fun.

I made this cake last night… VERY good! Not too sweet. I added a little powdered sugar to my piece, but left the cake, itself, plain. Mine took about 10 minutes longer. At the end of the 40, I added 3 minutes, then added by 2’s until my toothpick came out clean. It made a full-to-the-rim 9x13 cake. Thanks for the recipe!
I also love to garden, I'm out there from day to night all season long, searching for a weed to pluck 😂. The winter season can feel like forever when planning out next seasons garden especially when the seed orders start to arrive.

Good morning Chelsea- So nice to see that you are making desserts with coffee and love that you named your kitchen wood stove Martha. I named ours Matilda. They do have personalities :-) My Gram made mayo cake and she also made coffee jello. So funny your paint is called First Light. I worked for First Light Technology in Saco, Maine. Manchester, NH has a great cafe on Kelly Street called Chez Vachon ( spelling ?) Their French Canadian food is awesome! I love-love the pork pies that are traditionally made at Christmas and pork spread (Gorton?) The french fries with gravy are good, but I'm still a ketchup girl. Manchester used to have an A&W food drive up. The waitresses would roller skate out to your car, with my favorite fries and A&W rootbeer. Like Happy Days!

I love your videos. I’ve never had poutine. I’m going to try it. Much smaller batch - I’m alone. Your hill is amazing. We had a fairly steep hill on the farm where my kids grew up. I regret I never went down that hill but I had cracked my tailbone a few years before and was afraid I’d injure it again. Keep warm. We haven’t been below 0 F yet. ( southern Minnesota).

Here in Sweden we have snow as well, not as cold temps yet just around -2c but next week is supposed to be in the minus double digits which I am looking forward to. I am tired of slush and mud. I don't understand how you grow winter squash and pumpkins in your climate which is similar to ours. I have tried to grow them but our season never is long enough, what varieties do you grow? Nice hill of fun. I worked at some apartment homes in Dallas Tx. and they thought stainless steel appliances would look nice. It turned out it was a disaster because the residents used scouring pads on them. We had to replace many panels on dishwashers, refrigerators and stoves $$$. And yes they did dent easily.
I recently won a chili cook-off at my church Fall Fest. I followed your lead and added Butternut Squash to my chili. The squash takes on the flavor of what you put it in. I also won the dessert competition with my Soda Cracker Pie. I am learning so much from you. Thanks for the tip. It added so much texture and cut down on the acidity of all the tomato-eee products. I just made the chocolate cake. This is probably the best chocolate cake I've ever had. I don't typically like chocolate cake because it's usually dry. This cake was very moist and easy to make. Thank you for sharing the recipe ❤

Your mother's chocolate cake recipe is similar to my mother's except she didn't add eggs or any fat. We call it a mayonnaise cake and the recipe originally was used during the depression when ingredients were hard to afford. Mayo already has eggs and fat and was less expensive than those things. Besides seeing the snow, hearing the squeaking while you walk in it and how squeaky it is, let's you know how cold it is. Now if you cold figure out smell-a-vision, I miss the crisp smell of snow. I just found cheese curd in a local grocery store, so this poutine recipe is perfect timing. Thanks for showing us how you make it. And you're right, the sledding hill is magical!
Denise Scull, I have the same one, my grandmother always made it for the holidays, and my birthday, than was handed over for me to make and now it has been handed over to one of my grandsons who makes it for the holidays. It is honestly my favorite cake and a must for the holidays. It is a family treasure. No coffee either, but I think this one would be fun to make, it sounds decadent and rich 😋.

As a child my mom would let us choose what we wanted for dinner on our birthday's. My brother always wanted home made Lasagna. Myself steak (that didn't need to be beaten with a hammer) baked potato and chocolate mayonnaise cake . after 12 years old I added a glass of wine to my dinner request. My mom put a lemon drizzle on my cake that made it all the the tastier. Forgot at 60 I still request the same thing for my birthday now I get a whole bottle of wine.
Hi Chelsea, hope you and your family are well. Could I make a suggestion? Instead of olive oil try using veg oil. Also ommit the mayonnaise a cup of instant coffee and at the end pour into mixture a cup of very, very hot water ( the mixture will be quite runny, but it'll) All the rest is the same. I just made the chocolate cake. This is probably the best chocolate cake I've ever had. I don't typically like chocolate cake because it's usually dry. This cake was very moist and easy to make. Thank you for sharing the recipe ❤

My sister in law makes great chocolate cake with mayonnaise in it, I’m not fan of chocolate cake but this has no bitterness in it. Excited for your cookbook to come out! Lots good recipes it seems ❤

Your mother's chocolate cake recipe is similar to my mother's except she didn't add eggs or any fat. We call it a mayonnaise cake and the recipe originally was used during the depression when ingredients were hard to afford. Mayo already has eggs and fat and was less expensive than those things. Besides seeing the snow, hearing the squeaking while you walk in it and how squeaky it is, let's you know how cold it is. Now if you cold figure out smell-a-vision, I miss the crisp smell of snow. I just found cheese curd in a local grocery store, so this poutine recipe is perfect timing. Thanks for showing us how you make it. And you're right, the sledding hill is magical!
Denise Scull, I have the same one, my grandmother always made it for the holidays, and my birthday, than was handed over for me to make and now it has been handed over to one of my grandsons who makes it for the holidays. It is honestly my favorite cake and a must for the holidays. It is a family treasure. No coffee either, but I think this one would be fun to make, it sounds decadent and rich 😋.

As a child my mom would let us choose what we wanted for dinner on our birthday's.
My brother always wanted home made Lasagna. Myself steak (that didn't need to be beaten with a hammer) baked potato and chocolate mayonnaise cake . after 12 years old I added a glass of wine to my dinner request.
My mom put a lemon drizzle on my cake that made it all the the tastier.
Forgot at 60 I still request the same thing for my birthday now I get a whole bottle of wine.

Hi Chelsea, hope you and your family are well. Could I make a suggestion? Instead of olive oil try using veg oil. Also ommit the mayonnaise a cup of instant coffee and at the end pour into mixture a cup of very, very hot water ( the mixture will be quite runny, but it'll) All the rest is the same. Since 1937 the chocolate mayonnaise cake has been around and I agree how moist and amazing it is. I like it with vanilla frosting for the contrast.
The recipe goes way back in our family - I’ll ask my mom when they first started making it.
