Lex just blew my mind with this... "Well, I mean, I feel like static is sort of like the default sound. Everything is moving, everything is vibrating, everything is buzzing around us at all times... So much that it seems still. So it's like the default isn't actually silence, but static." There's deep layers to her observation, and Lex just sent my mind spinning. Respect. Weird recognize weird.
And the static you see and hear on radio and old tube televisions is remnant microwave radiation from the Big Bang being picked up but the antennas pretty gnarly
I heard him say something really different. That it was about how we steer each other towards moral perfection with our policing of each other. I also heard them say it was an inside joke bc they’d say they were going to call the karma police on each other. That it’s about stress and having ppl look at you a certain way. I have a feeling that sometimes the meaning of some of their songs changes as time goes on.
@@Comrade_mommy I always assumed it was like that, the way it's making demands on a higher power over what is basically someone else not bothering them, the strange and unsupported projections as to what the target is doing wrong. Wow, i actually thought that's what he was singing about without knowing that. Can completely understand the perspective.
Yes… Lex is starting to get it. Radiohead are the weird l, quiet kids who are secretly brilliant and always hang out by the art class. Think of them as like the 90’s offspring of Pink Floyd. Totally different energy and approach but the same heart and love for surreal soundscapes, paranoid lyrics, weird noises, and beautiful melodies. But Radiohead is more than just great production and soundscapes, the real genius is in their unusual note choices and harmonic choices, but they still somehow make it into a brilliant and pleasant song. Their music would be just as amazing if it was all stripped down and acoustic.
i dunno. i love those performances, but they're still better for fans who know the songs. In Rainbows studio songs probably still better place to start so you can hear all the details properly.
If you want them to do a deeper dive, if you’ve got to request on the live streams then vote if they make it on a poll, that’s how they do reactions, they make it on polls if enough people request them in the live chat… then listen out for them saying “poll is up” then you’ll either see the poll or you have to refresh the page live chat by clicking/tapping on the live chat icon (not the ‘top chat’ one) If you’re watching and they say “next poll is the last song” then you can request a music video reaction.. just type video or music video next to your request. They can only do videos at the end of the stream because TH-cam often takes the stream down soon after that.
Radiohead! Such a huge catalogue of music worth the time. Fake Plastic Trees - infact almost anything from The Bends and OK Computer is a fantastic route in.
Radiohead is undoubtedly one of the best bands of all time, but it might take a little while to get into their music. Ok Computer tackles themes such as technology, social isolation, mental health, politics and the anxiety towards the new millenium. And I'm not even getting into Kid A, In Rainbows and A Moon Shaped Pool.
It's taken me 3 tries to get into them, but I'm finally fully addicted haha. Only albums I have left to listen to are The Bends which I've heard is amazing and Pablo Honey which I've heard is not lol
That ending "static", of course in the context of the album makes absolute sense. I like Lex's interpretation though. Paranoia is the theme of the album, naturally, and the depth on the majority of the tracks instrumentally speaking, is such a journey.

Lex, "symbolic static!" Yes, love it. The constant noise, interference, bustle, pace and migraine of modern life. This song to me has always been about trying to keep your shit together - among all those other human beings. He's calling on the karma police to deal with them (by making him not lash out) and when he does, with his fantasy of 'this is what you'll get', he self reflexively catches himself and apologies... Returns to, like Brad said, the weirdo/quiet socially anxious individual that doesn't quite fit in.
The end high speed static and then it's slowed distortion into silence makes me think of the different moments of chaos we go through that eventually fade. Similar to like you said about "wit's end". The wonky distortion is like the emotional rollercoaster inbetween the chaos and that eventual quiet numbness or enlightenment to move on once we can rationalize the experience.
This is truly one of the great albums. I don't listen to it as often as I did when it dropped, but I'll still put a song on loop when it pops up in my playlist. This is a front-to-back great album.
The default is that this is just one song from an album and it simply leads into the next one ... That sound at the end is Karma leading you into a Fitter Happier way of being.
I can definitively say without hesitation this is my favorite song of all songs. I can claim this because ever since it came out with all the music and genres I’ve heard and enjoyed, this is the only song I can not ever skip if it comes on, I never tire of it, I have gotten into loops where I have listened to it multiple times in a row and recently too, so many sounds to listen to. I taught myself piano to learn this song and have multiple covers in different genres because it’s a song that can flow to different styles. No other song does for me what this one does I know it’s likely weird but it is what it is.
On unrelated note, i think you'd really like Skunk Anansie - Secretly , it was a big band and a popular song bout 20 years ago, but i've never seen anyone on youtube react to it.

Man, I think Lex's view on this is really interesting. Really thoughtful. I've listened to Radiohead for literally years...I'm an uber Radiohead geek...and I've never really thought about this track in this way. Thanks guys!
You guys are my fave you-tubers - I love how Brad interprets songs lyrically and Lex gets into it musically yet often will still get deeper into it’s meaning.
I think you nailed it Lex. Hoping the people who hurt you get their Karma, but then getting so lost in negative thoughts that you risk unbalancing yourself emotionally. Great stuff.
I always took that sound at the end to represent a deteriorating mental state, or deteriorating grip or control of emotion. Or maybe the opposite, a return to chaos/static that he used to drown out the other thoughts, we dipped into a vindictive frame for a minute, then gain control by blocking out those thoughts, the static.
I think the song is more about self-righteousness and the sense of moral superiority that pretty much everyone experiences at some point. The narrator is wishing ill on other people for super minor annoyances to him, and then the "For a minute there I lost myself" is him coming to his senses.
Lex - i’m a huge radiohead fan and love to see reaction videos. maybe it’s because i wish i could go back in time and listen to them again for the first time. but every song i see you react to - you have the most genuine reaction and you really seem to dig it. the smile on your face said it all.
Great call, "Maybe he was at his wit's end". Please dive down the Radiohead rabbit hole. Based on reactions that I have seen from you two, I recommend "Life in a Glass House"
Within the context of the record this is from 'OK Computer' this song immediately proceeds 'Fitter Happier' - which is a robotic voice writing the code of humanity. The static sound at the end of this track (to me) represents the technological taking over from the human.
I was at a music festival about 15yrs ago and someone gave me with 5 hits of acid while telling me it was 1 & we were on many other substances as well and at 1 point I had to go sit in my car and listen to this song on repeat for an hour before I was able to speak to people again. This song will always have a special place in my heart for this song for that reason.
Radiohead are excellent at evoking a dreamlike feeling in their songs (Karma Police, Paranoid Android, Street Spirit) or a melodic hangover (No Surprises, High&Dry, Fake Plastic Trees), they're the musical embodiment of the feeling you're left with after watching Trainspotting
So glad you did another Radiohead song. I’d say keep going with their more popular songs first, as they are great as well. I’d hit up Fake Plastic Trees or Paranoid Android Next. Can’t go wrong.
Hi guys, I love your work. Please consider another great Radiohead song, Fake Plastic Trees. It is one of the most beautiful and moving songs I have ever heard. Thanks again .😊
SImply the most important album of the 90s. People have called it the Sgt Peppers of the 90s. And speaking of The Beatles, I read that Thom Yorke was trying to write something like I Am The Walrus for the outro of this song. You can hear it if you think about both songs. Lex had some good insights on this one.
Lex just blew my mind with this... "Well, I mean, I feel like static is sort of like the default sound. Everything is moving, everything is vibrating, everything is buzzing around us at all times... My friend and I used to call being on the same page, as far as explaining an idea to someone goes, "Cerebral Static"
Ha. Ridiculous. There's the alter ego active shooter and then for " a minute I lost myself".
The Universe is a sound machine that you can't hear in space...
Entropy.
“These guys like odd noises” Probably the best description of Radiohead I have ever heard
If I recall correctly it's sort of a crossfade into the beginning of "Fitter, Happier" which is... odd noises
Finally a Radiohead reaction with no "Creep" in it. The rabbit hole is huge with that band.
Agreed. Hope to see more in that line.
Great to see, this song is far superior too in my book.
...and no Paranoid Android!

Lex grooving out to Radiohead has made my life complete! ❤️
Not a single reviewer did ''You and who's army'' I am sure you guys will adore it!
The greatest band of the last 30 years.
Best Album of the 90's- they were ahead of their time.
The dudes so brilliant with every song he writes he’s got a mini movie in the works to help us get the message.
This is a great song to listen to when you're half drunk laying in bed with the lights off.
Speaking of karma: "Instant Karma!" by John Lennon.
Radiohead’s genre is Radiohead
