    This airplane has inspired me to go to flight school and become a pilot. Oh my gosh. This plane is absolutely beautiful. I love the design. I loved your presentation. Thank you so much for this video. I love it

    What's the climb rate? What's the cruising speed? How many feet does it take to land and to get it off the ground? Who manufactures the engines? If you have to jump out of that plane. How are the gullwing doors with parachutes?
    What about when you ditch it in water? What's the payload?

  • @44hawk28

    I am completely impressed with everything about this aircraft except for one point. Why in the world do you make such a wonderful aircraft and not put counter-rotating props on it. Counter-rotating props make the flyability so much easier especially if you lose, in this case the left engine.
    2000 nautical miles. Wonderful

    I apologize, another point of wanting to make was why you guys decided to go with a forward/minimum swept wing. It's pretty cool to see that you have canards on the end of the wingtips that's gonna save a lot on fuel too.

    It's a little misleading calling it a diesel since it implies "diesel" fuel. More accurately it is a JetA compression ignition engine. They are getting tremendous efficiency out of them as well with fuel consumption on par with a single.

    Nice looking plane. I sat in one and looked all around it and noticed that there is no baggage room. You'd be hard pressed to bring a gym bag with you. Certainly no room for a carry on sized hard-case bag you see on any commercial flight. Also, at the price, I'd be more apt to buy a used Cessna 501 with the seirra engines. Less money, faster, higher, etc etc. Plus, if you can afford the 1.5mm for the plane... you don't have to worry about the bit extra to operate the jet. Lots of options for faster and higher in this price bracket.

    • @peachfuzz89
      @peachfuzz89 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Vortex generators. They're used to modify the airflow over the wing.

    • @robertgantry2118
      @robertgantry2118 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Interesting. I guess I'll have to see them in a wind tunnel because I always thought stuff on top of the wing would disrupt the airflow and deplete lift.

      No problem! I just completed ground school for my private license at the beginning of this month. I couldn't recall exactly how the wing vortices worked, so I didn't want to attempt to explain it myself. I just knew it had something to do with altering the airflow characteristics.

    Can a person earn their private pilot's license on an aircraft like this? (USA)

    • @CowBeatsCrow
      @CowBeatsCrow 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I couldn't find anything on that with a quick search. Your best bet would be to call your local flight school and ask them because they should either know or have the resources to find out. Alternatively, you can call your local FAA field office and ask.
      If I were to give you my best guess, I'd say you likely wouldn't be able to because multi-engine is an additional rating that you get on your pilot's certificate. It's worth it to mention that you _can_ get rated in a multi-engine immediately after getting your pilot's certificate, but it's suggested that you get your high-performance and complex ratings first.

    • @DanFrederiksen
      @DanFrederiksen 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Caravan is not a jet. A Cirrus Vision Jet is a 5+2 seater actual jet at just under 2mill new. At close to twice the speed of this Diamond. Eclipse may have died by they initially aimed for 1 million dollars.
      I don't know about you but in my world, a million dollars is real money. It should buy more than this glorified piper cub.
      Diamond themselves also tried to make a million dollar jet.

    • @Ichibuns
      @Ichibuns 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not being a jet was my point

    • @kyphe.
      @kyphe. 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      A cirrus vision which is one of the most affordable pressurized jets you can buy cost 700.000 dollars more than this twin prop which is real money to me and only cruises at 125 kn more. But the real kicker is that the Vision has a dismal range of 600 nmi at max cruise speed compared to the 1,285 nmi of the DA62.

    • @DanFrederiksen
      @DanFrederiksen 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The vision is a pressurized 7 seater and at less than max speed and payload it can do 1200nmi. Suit yourself.
      I'd rather buy a Pipistrel Panthera at 40% the price using 60% of the fuel and going faster.

    That advanced and $1.4M, but counter-rotating props were just too complicated? I mean, it's only 22 years into the 21st century. $1.4M for an aircraft that can't out perform a 25 year old, $400k Piper Seneca except in fuel burn? Nah. Looks cool. But, you can keep it.

      Never gonna happen - the Austro is based on a Merc engine. The Merc Engines would you believe - only spin one way. So they will never setup a "DA62 Engine No.2" production facility and line just for that.
      There is little torque in the DA42 & DA62 compared to a big Turboprop so you're not gaining anything.

    The used aircraft market is very soft in early 2018. Why would anyone waste time on this toy when a solid, HS-125-800 can be had for $800,000? If that's too much airplane for the GA enthusiast, post BB1500 BE200s are available for a song. I'll take a properly maintained, 10 year old turbine over a new recip 8 days a week. And so should you.

    You can't have diesel in an airplane. They take special high octane fuel.

      You can power a plane with a rubber band (the only sort I've flown :-) ). And jet fuel (kerosene) is far from "high octane" but I suppose you're right about diesel being unusual - which could cause problems for refueling. And diesel is supposed to be very polluting.

      Sure you can. This one is.

      Diesel engines are too big and heavy to have on a small airplane. Unless this is burning diesel fuel in a nontraditional way. It does not sound like a diesel to me.

      Diesel engines are as big or small as you make them and as light or heavy. Clearly this plane is powered by a pair. That said, it is an unusual fuel and you might wonder how many airports that this plane visits will be able to supply it. This wouldn't be a problem if it was a crop duster, but it is supposed to be a business commuter plane and take it's passengers just about everywhere.

      It's a 4 piston diesel engine design. They spec JP A-1 fuel for this AE 330, but the earlier version AE 300 was certified as multi-fuel - JP/Kerosene/diesel. The older version has been in the air for years already...

    automatic this, automatic that... I hope Airbus didn't have anything to do with it. They seem to be lacking in the "automatic" department.
