Weaving Hansanmosi :

- Hansanmosi is the ramie fabric produced in the Hansan region in Seocheon-gun, Chungcheongnam-do characterized by high average temperature during summer, high humidity due to extensive sea wind. In addition, the soil is very fertile, making it ideal to grow ramie plant. Therefore, this region is renowned for very high quality of Mosi produced with ramie plant grown in the region, thereby making Hansanmosi the pronoun for Mosi in Korea. Weaving Mosi is composed of numerous processes including harvesting, simmering of Mosi plant, spinning of thread with Mosi plant fiber and weaving with traditional loom. Mosi is used as material for a wide range of garment categories including suits, military uniform and mourning garments and is ideal to offer pleasant feel of wear during sweltering hot summer days.
- Weaving ramie fabric has traditionally been a domestic job performed mostly by women with mothers passing on the techniques and experiences in weaving to their daughters or daughters-in-law. In addition, tradition of weaving ramie fabric played the role of unifying the community with the neighbors gathered at a set place in the community to work together. Currently, the traditional technique of weaving Hansanmosi is being taught by a middle-aged woman in a village in Chungcheongnam-do, Korea with approximately 500 people in Chungcheongnam-do engages in a diverse range of activities related to weaving ramie fabric weaving.

Step #5 Weaving Mosi
Weaving Mosi - Mosi is woven by using weaving device referred to as a loom. Warp beam wrapped around with warp-thread is placed on top of loom leg (thick and long timber placed horizontally across the loom) and warp-thread inserted into the body is pulled out and alternatively inserted into 2 heddles before inserting them into the body again to be tied on loom roller.
Following copwind filling wind, allow the weft put in shuttle to pass through warp-thread alternative and in crisscross manner left to right in accordance with the top and bottom location of the body. Through this process, weft and warp-thread will meet each other to weave Mosi. More finely and tightly the Mosi is woven, higher the rating is given to the woven fabric and is referred to as Semosi (finely woven Mosi).
