you can enchant opponents creatures with freed from the real.... and tap the patchwork to win
Seth was also playing around Zabaz blocking in Game 1 when the opponent didn't have W to give it flying
Came to say this too. The "tap enchanted creature" ability is rarely used on Freed From the Real, but in this case it would've been game winning.
Hehe, me running to the comments to scream this into the void...
Seth won't do that because targeting opponent's creatures with auras is a crime. Seth is no criminal.
Summing up to this question, on 11:02, use freed from the real to tap the possible blocker and just win, why not?
"The noblest of hierarchs" always makes me smile for some reason.
Some things never change and it makes me happy lol
Same, brings me the good nostalgia
49:17 LORE TIME! Sanctum Weaver is a Dryad (a spiritual projection of a tree/forest). Some dryads are more humanlike (presumably in order to communicate with humanoids more easily) but some are more overtly treelike as Sanctum Weaver is. Since it is metaphysically connected to the forest, it probably doesn't need input at all, but even if it does then it can accomplish that with its leaflike appendages and its rootlike appendages. And since it resides in a sacred place of the forest and probably only ever interacts with devotees of Karametra in rituals, it has no need for humanlike communication. So there's plenty of reason for it not to have a mouth.
Omg in match 2 I was so confused why you left veil and took out pact 😂 glad it was a mistake and I’m not just a bad magic player lol
I was SO CONFUSED
Kenrith with infinite mana can also just... force a draw-to-death at instant speed. And do it again in response to anything they try to respond with on the stack.
If they have split second removal you're screwed, but it's unlikely
I miss the graphic where you showed the name of the opponent's deck. Very helpful when trying to learn about what all the modern decks are.
I miss when he would be ultra specific about the card slots in sideboards so I could know what's the threats he's worried about - modern has a large card pool and I'm not always on top of what's scariest in the meta, both in general and to his decks in particular (i.e. some decks are desperate to kill graveyard hate and some keep their more aggro removal in the side as well as what aggro threats need answering generally)
Zabuz doesn't have flying without putting mana into it
OMG seth hovering over the "{u}: tap enchanted creature" everytime for half a second before clicking the right one is so stressful 😂
Needs "Lost in the Maze" to protect your dorks. They get hexproof when they're tapped. And you can tap them in response to removal so they're immune to spot removal with Maze on the board. Much better than counterspells for protecting your dorks.
cute but an incredibly bad idea. might be better than the card literally called counterspell, but the fact that lost needs not one but 2 blue mana up to work makes it unplayable in this deck. this deck would like to combo on turn 2, and uses all of its mana to do so, which is why pact of negation is the protection spell of choice... that and veil, which is nice because it only costs 1 green, which is easier to come by in this deck that wants leyline of abundance on the battlefield
@@alaraplatt8104 veil is great when it works but it is only relevant against one color (albeit the best removal color). Pact is nice when you are comboing but I actually really like lost in the maze here, it's just 2 mana protect all your creatures for the rest of the game, which seems worth it in a matchup where you're worried about removal. Not really a reactive play most of the time I'd imagine, you would just want to run it out on your opponents end step t2 and have it in play.
If they have 2 removal spells against your creature and you pact to protect from the first one, you just lose the game. In that scenario, lost in the maze still loses your creature but sets you up to have safe creatures for the rest of the game (as long as you can lose summoning sickness, something pact also requires)
Much love and much appreciation for you and your videos Seth!
Thanks!
Seems like walking ballista would have been a huge asset here
The only awkward thing about using Ballista as a finisher is that's it pretty bad with Storm the Festival. Still could be worth it though.
"So Freed From the Real, one of the sweetest, most unique auras in all of Magic."
Pemmin's Aura: Am I a joke to you??!
I feel like the real problem in game 3 against Tron wasn't the Dryad Arbor but the basic island. I get that Blood Moon is a thing but you're never casting Freed from the Real without a dork and if you're ever in a position of needing to cast Pact of Negation without dorks you're probably screwed anyway. I'm pretty sure you want all of your non-Nykthos lands to either tap for green or be fetches
I realized after typing this that Teferi exists, which makes it a bit less certain, but I still think you could run a mix of fetches, Breeding Pools, Temple Gardens and maybe Spara's Headquarters and be fine. Blood Moon would still potentially cut you off Teferi but that's all it does so I think you're fine with that trade
This. Also, in the original version I sent him, and he changed there are no basics. By time blood moon is on the field, you should have green sources out including dorks.
bird voltron you are making Richard real happy
Sylvan caryatid is a mana dork with hexproof, it's a 2cmc tho
What about the hexproof mana dorks as like a 2 of or something
Yeah, the mana dork mix in this deck is interesting. Sylvan Caryatid could be a good option against removal heavy decks. It's a bit slow, but the resilience might still make it worth considering.
@@MTGGoldfish Paradise Druid? It's 2 mana has Hexproof and taps for any color
Great content
A none surveil land believer Harumph!
Yeah, I think it's worth adding one, maybe two. The deck does need its mana untapped in the early game, but if we don't have the nut draw we often end up doing nothing for a few turns which would be the perfect time to do some surveiling off a fetch.
@@MTGGoldfish deck was really sweet though GREAT VIDEO!!
Why not bring in Leyline of Sanctity against Valakut?
Agreed
They probably run a ton of Boseijus to blow it up. Still might be worth it though.
I wonder if the deck maybe should have some number of Scion of Draco. It’s great synergy with leyline of the guildpact and helps to protect the combo.
Leyline binding and sunken citadel seem interesting too
This actually kind of reminds me of the jeskai ascendancy deck from some years ago in modern. This looks a bit more resilient though. It looks pretty sweet
Ok, stop me if you already heard this one: 4 hierarch, 5 leylines and a bird go into a bar..
Leyline of sanctity against scape shift seems good
Ii love how you consider this deck "weird and interesting shenanigans", but the Draco synergy is annoying lmao
Big love
This deck folds to all of the most common forms of interaction. Whereas the purpose of Leyline Draco is that a single removal spell typically doesn't get the job done. It's about resiliency.
@@Swnkmstrthis is an insane and fingers crossed combo, while Draco colors feels like the more traditional magic in the “I play creatures and attack w them” sense (which I would consider much less annoying then a turn two, extremely fragile combo)
I watch this channel for the deck building insanity, rest assured
@matthewraye64 i see so in you perspective random unforseen combo blowouts are annoying?
I just think theyre hilarious. Like an "ahh gatcha moment"
It's kinda funny that teferi +1 does something
Draws lands and dorks all game against Tron while Tron missing land drops for 3 ish turns... Seth: Aaaaargh Trooon!!!!!!!
has the same idea as my friend's deck, his is arbor elf with freed from the real and a forest that has either fertile ground or utopia sprawl
After having watched the whole video, I'm convinced you've been playing it in hard mode with 4 leyline of the guildpacts acting as dead weight / dead draws. It's almost never been useful apart from some slight mana fixing here and there. The synergy with Nykthos seem like wishful thinking in this list, stars really need to align. I'd cut them out completely and the deck would be more stable already.
Sweet video though, thanks Seth for your work :D
I think that the one ring would unironically be good in this deck, as it gives you a free turn to dig for the freed from the real. I would swap some of the veil of summers for it.
Nooo, I think against Scapeshift's 2nd game you took out the Pacts instead of Veil of Summer, and I'm glad you realized it game 3
Seth, surprised you didn't include Bloomtender. Any reason for that?
i love that he misses that he can play freed from the real on opponent creatures to tap them when they have a blocker
theres one way to make sure you always have an outlet for your millions of mana: panglacial wurm :P
A 5 colour combo deck without tutors seems a risky business
Lost in the Maze could be good to dodge removal on your creatures. Mostly a sideboard card but you probably won't get got by non-T1 bolt/push plays (and it makes dryad arbor better?).
@11:08 can't you enchant the patchy with the second freed from the reel, tap it and win? or am I missing something?
you can, something seth just didn't realize. First game he also was acting as if zabaz could fly, which due to mana options at the time - wasn't actually a thing
recently built a similar deck with Kinnan Bonder Prodigy as secondary combo piece and finisher❤
Kinnan seems good. Basically does the same thing as Leyline of Abundance, except it's most likely to die to removal. I might have to add a couple of copies.
Can we just appreciate Crim's signature. It's literally Bolas.
No.
Any chance there's more unboxing vidoes coming down the pipeline?
wow, he really laid it on the line for this one.
You should have been attacking with Kenrith
I didn't think about this before but is daurhi voidwalker a reference to leyline of the void?
Leyline goes brrrrrr
I love Excel Spreadsheet Simulator!
When will we get 16 panharmonicon in explorer, with elesh norn, castle vantress, yarok and panharmonicon?
Id go karn and have bullets or finishers in the side like ballista. You can grab him with storm too
Round 4 is the epitome of why I despise Dryad Arbor. It may be correct to play, but drawing it and having to play it out just to have it killed is one of the worst feelings
Seth why do you crack your fetch lands when you have Leyline of the guildpack on the battlefield. Your fetch lands tap for any mana
game two, gets rekt by the ring, doesn't bring in stony silence. vintage seth
Hey Seth, do you need a green screen to make behind you disappear like that? Sorry if it's a dumb question. Also is there a way to submit you a decklist to check out for potential play?
Yes , and he checks out decks on twitch
@@kamikazebanzai1005 Ty!
This deck (and any deck that can consistently make 4 mana) would be greatly improved by the addition of The One Ring.
And I quote:
"Does Sanctum Weaver not have a mouth? Look at that face. I do not see a mouth. What happened to Sanctum Weaver's mouth? That's the real question. Why is there no mouth on Sanctum Weaver??" - Seth
Ayy, I saw this on the Replay channel :p
Ha, yeah, chat made me play a couple of games with it because they saw it in my MTGO account.
I once got Tasha's'd for 2. Opponent hit Emrakul + Autochron worm when i was playing Calibrated Blast
Funky list
Pemmin's Aura, my dude
are u suggesting we take this deck to legacy
So, why are you not bringing in the Leyline of Sanctity in match 2? Isn't their main wincon to Scapeshift into Valakut and ping you for a lot?
Zabuz doesn't have natural flying right?
I think a few lair of the hydra would be good in this deck
@11:30 couldn’t you play Freed From The Real on your opponent’s blocker and then tap it so you can swing for lethal?
Why do I feel like I saw this one already?
Played it on stream
Why not play Sylvan Caryatid to have a mana creature that can’t be targeted by opponent’s kill spells?
Karn is fine lol 😂 leave that robot man alone
I think it’s funny that people still complain about tron so much especially 4karn when before ring it was tier 2 and it’s still not the best ring deck
@@ashdog9235 people love to not change their opinions
Other then Nykthos why does he have leyline of the guild pact?
Lets dryad arbor combo with freed from the real
@knobbonk yep, I don't think the guildpact leyline is worth it in this deck
As much as Karn can be annoying I think it is necessary for what modern is now. With how much more degenerate a lot of decks are compared with tron it haveing access to main deck sideboard cards but at a definite cost keeps some stuff in check. One of the most egregious things about fury was it having a threat comparable or better with a turn 3 wurm from tron on turn 1
I feel like this could really use some more mana sinks.
Sanctum Weaver does not require a mouth for eating, as she is a tree. Dunno about talking.
You don't board in leyline of sanctity against valakut?
You should do 4c elementals in modern
While I think that the London Mulligan has been positive for the game in general, I really don't like the way it interacts with Leylines, it seems like it's very consistent now to start with one in your opening hand.
Decks like these make me wish there were move physical gameplay videos because combos with lots of steps are a lot of clicking on mtgo.
@mtggoldfish do you think you could reach out to more TH-camrs and see if they'd be up for doing matches over webcame or in person?
Hi Seth. NoobTube here. I recently created a new deck that I am trying out in Timeless MTGA. I think you would really enjoy this deck. It is a ponza deck that uses grinning ingus + birgi as a wincon. Decklist
Decklist:
4x Birgi, God of Storytelling (KHM)
4x Blood Moon (WOT)
4x Bloodstained Mire (MH3)
4x Deathrite Shaman (RVR)
3x Delighted Halfling (LTR)
4x Devilish Valet (SNC)
4x Forest (MH3)
4x Gamble (SPG)
3x Gilded Goose (LTC)
4x Grinning Ignus (STX)
4x Impact Tremors (WOT)
3x Llanowar Elves (30A)
4x Mountain (BLB)
4x Stomping Ground
3x Windswept Heath (MH3)
4x Wooded Foothills (MH3)
Sideboard (you can build a sideboard if you want to play this in Bo3 which I know you enjoy more)
1x Jegantha, the Wellspring
I love submitting decks just to be told oh cool and change some things about it then make it your own without crediting anyone
There should be a "repeat loop" option on mtgo
Against the Scape Shift, why not bring in Leyline of Sanctity? Since their wincon is mostly Valakut they need to remove it to win, no?
I don’t think dryad arbor was the mistake but the island
I don't understand why he didn't attack at 11:30
i have no idea why i thought layline of abundance was banned all these years
Pls bring in leyline of sanctity vs scapeshift...
Where is Bloom Tender?
Does Seth not realize that he can cast Leyline of the Guildpact?-
Match 2 Game 1 if you had attacked with Kenrith thats game, he gives himself trample my dude
Ì realy want them to print a less scary card with the eldrazi titan shuffle gy into deck ability for self mill decks.
I'm only through the first game of the video, so maybe I'm crazy, but a bird/noble + freed from the real + leyline is only infinite green mana, am I missing something? Seth is talking about Kenrith like he can activate all of his abilities, but he can only use Kenrith to pump the team with green mana, then only activate 1 other ability on Kenrith. Kenrith seems like a really bad mana sink in this deck. I also don't really understand main board veil of summer in this deck, I get that the deck is fragile, but I'd rather play creature protection instead of a situational card like veil.
Took me a bit to figure out- can use infinite green to put counters on Sanctum Weaver, then break the loop by adding red with Birds and giving Weaver trample+haste with Kenrith.
@@draconocor1309 or put inifnite counters on the Kenrith, then using a creature to give red mana for haste and trample, you don't need sanctum weaver AND another dork. My point was, during the deck tech, Seth is talking about using Kenrith as a mana sink for all of his abilities, but you can't do anything more than infinite pump and 1 other ability, unless you have specifically sanctum weaver. Feels like Seth thought you could make infinite mana of any color, but really you have infinite green
@@Its_McKennon yeah I get that. Sanctum Weaver works for sure but the others not really. I think it'd have been good to run some hexproof dorks that add any color- slower but more consistent.
@@draconocor1309 Yeah, sylvan caryatid would have been good, veil of summer shouldn't be in the main, there should be better mana sinks like 4 finales instead of kenrith, not playing 4 mistys is just odd, storm the festival doesn't look good in this deck, there's a lot in this deck that just seems really sketchy to me. This is not Seth's best work.
I got a turn 2 inf bird on a mull to 4 in a papertornament. my opponent dropt his jaw😂
Match 1 Game 1 you could have won with just the bird. Zabaz has to pay W to get flying.
layline tribal
[[bloom tender]]
this isn't reddit lol =p But yeah, that would help too, but I think Paradise druid would be better with the hexproof
Isn't Force of Negation better than Pact?
Leyline of Sancity gives you hexproof against Valakut, doesn't it?
Why isn't Veil of Summer in the sideboard? Why isn't Seth running Leyline Binding?
Force needs blue cards to be good, and this deck is almost mono green. And I don't think Leyline of the Guildpact is enough to turn on Binding in a 3 color deck.
But yes to Sanctity stopping Valakut.
You had the bird fly in kill game one zabaz doesn't fly
Hahahaha, i knew it was 8 rack immediately. Ive been playing 8 rack sonce 2014 lmao
The amount of clicking, your poor hand
MORE MODERN! THUMBS UP IF YOU AGREE!
Why are we not playing a playset of Misty Rainforest? Since only that one is able to fetch your basic island.
Budget i'm guessing.
Probably budget, yeah. It's strictly better than the verdant Seth is playing
Why not just win Game two match 1? Had an extra Freed from the Real to tap the single blocker. 🤷
As much as i hate it, wouldn't ring be good here? Digs for combo, protects if cast, draws 3+ cards...
zabaz doesn't have flying
18:50 You didn't sideboard the veil, you sideboarded your pacts unfortunately =/
Bird of paradise ban please 🙏
