i had the extreme pleasure in playing with frank 6 days before his passing here in miami. the occaision was chubby and duffy jackson big band opening the swiss chateau jazz club. also in the band were nat adderly, vinnie tanno, phil gilbert, danny turner ( lead alto w basie), arnett cobb and frank played lead trb. read everything the 1st time and beautiful sound and ideas. loved hanging with him throughout. RIP

This is the most impassioned jazz trombone solo I've ever heard. To me, it sounds like an anguished yearning transformed into music. This must be one of the greatest jazz trombone solos ever played.

You can feel Frank's pain, torment, and suffering. His story is one of true tragedy.

This is my favorite Rosolino album. He was at the top of his game here. I didn’t realize he wrote this tune. Makes it even more poignant.

Timeless. While it is impossible for me to even begin to say what one of his recorded solos are my favorite, this one is on the list.

Frank Rossolino was the greatest Trombone Player of all times. I was 15 years old in 1955. It is when I bought the album Frenesi. It was great. I had a lifelong dream to play with him. My dream was fullfilled in 1973 . I played with Frank, Phil Urso,
and Frank and Strazzeri in Denver Colorado Then the bad news kept coming I have no desire to want to think of that horrible day. Frank where ever you are keep Swingin. I love you.

There will never be another Frank Rosolino! He had it all going on musically and transcended what you think is humanly possible as a jazz trombonist. A true genius. He lives forever through recordings like this. Brilliant piano solo also on this tune. My favorite. T.S. Phillips

most musicians have a great sense of humour and are always good company.frank was a funny guy amtrakatsnyc is right about frank and of course he was the man no doubt about it.jack sheldon has me in tears at times a very funny man too but i dont think he ever had a dark side to him.anyway frank remaines my number one even today 60yrs later.thanks.

I always loved this cat's sound and playing. His family tragedy..wow...how could that happen to such a beautiful player?

I had purchased this LP several years ago and I can now remember how haunting this track was when I played it for the first time. Since then, I had rather forgotten how powerful this performance is and makes one think about the tragedy in Frank's life. He was a tue expert in his art. Thank you so much for the posting. He was also rather a comedian as he would appear in several routines on the Steve Allen Westihghouse Show back in the early 60's. He was a member of Don Trenner's band on that show

@elkartian me too.franks playing always had a certain emotional and sad element to it.maybe he was trying to tell us something eh ?.my god how bad did things turn out for him.we know though that genius is always close to the tipping point.that said this is great stuff and many thanks to you.

I agree with Exjazzbass in every way. Jack S. had us breaking up one show he did, we could hardly play, even when the audience didn't know what was going on, and the first time I ever saw Frank, he got up and danced with Bob, the lead bone man on Kenton's band in 1950! I did get to talk to him three days before his death, in Florida.

You reminded me of a hilarious drummer whom I worked with on Woody's band in '63. I had been in school with him in the mod '5's. Even on Woody's band, he would get up at intermission and imitate a drunk drummer, a beginning one, and break all of us and the audience up!

The title could have been Frank’s plea for help.

Love that photo of Count and Frank. I will never forget one night when they were playing at The Baked Potato. There was a lady piano player in the audience who wanted to sit in so finally they let her play and she was not making it. Frank said "Hey Count, the piano player's a bitch!" and we all broke up! Count and Frank were funny cats!
