  • Frank Rosolino is one of my favorite trombonists of all time, and this recording has been a huge part of my life for several years.
A trombone player gifted me this CD which had "Frank Rosolino Navy Pool of Mucus... (Huh?) 1968" written on the front.
I've looked everywhere online trying to find another copy of this recording or to find out where it took place, but I haven't found anything.
In this version of Embraceable You, Frank uses an octave pedal with his trombone! The high pitched tone throughout this song is what I assume to be a product of the new octave pedal technology.
I hope you enjoy listening to this recording as much as I do!

Thank you for posting this. Leslie was my sister and I haven't found much of Franks music from before her death.

I was there for that concert and remember it very well. Still have my reel to reel of the concert. I was in the school from October 1967-April 1968. Great concert. Frank Rosolino, trombone, Harvey Phillips, Tuba, Great band singer, arrangements by the school faculty and played by them. Wonderful concert, wonderful memories. Re-visited the SOM in 2009, forty-one years after I was there as a student.

He mentions on one of the other tracks that his Multividor parallels him 2 octaves below, therefore the upper tone is what he is playing.

I was going to comment the same thing. He’s playing the higher notes. That’s his normal range. I’ve heard him play with that device before. Not a fan. I’m glad he ditches it at the end.

An amazing player, a tragic person whose mind came apart at the seams.

Extraordinary virtuoso jazz musician, who in late years went deranged and killed a child of his and took his own life.
