Actually, there's a region in southern France called Camargue that is well known for their flamingos and is one of the biggest european reproduction zones. But since it's only in southern France that's maybe why the Pokemon was cut.

What's cool is that a complete skull was found and described last year, showing that its heads of both animals were pretty similar to one another, meaning there's a possible relativity between the two compared to animals like Monolophosaurus and Cryolophosaurus. And if you're wondering if there's such a thing as Trilophosaurus, yes it existed, but no, it wasn't a dinosaur, but a weird, plant-eating Archosaur that looks like a big iguana.

As for typing, I'd make the cassowary Fire/Rock, and Grass/Ground feels right for the peanut dinosaur. Also, the little rudder fish reminds me of the bottom of a windsurf board. Like someone could stick the fish on the bottom of their board and use the board's sail to fly across bodies of water with ease. Perhaps, if that inspiration is the case, it was dropped because surfing isn't the type of activity you think of when you think of "France."

We have Horsea/Seadra/Kingdra as another seahorse species, but just not as "flowy" But most of all, we have the Tentacool/Tentacruel vs Toedscool/Toedscruel and Diglett/Dugtrio vs Wiglett/Wugtrio lines. Although, the whole "convergent evolution" idea didn't hit until Gen9. About the chameleon one at the start: Cuttlefish have a pair of tentacles that they can shoot out to catch prey if I remember correctly so that could be a thing. Don't remember if they are toxic in any way though. Also the evo with all the spirals and stuff reminds me of one of Junji Itto's (A famous horror mangaka) mangas, I don't remember the name however.

Man I wish we got that Florges line instead, It looks way better than the one we got. Maybe it can be reused as a regional form or something
I really hope that water beetle design gets revived, having an evolution line go through reverse metamorphosis is a really neat concept and the design just looks awesome too
I really hope Game Freak brings back a few of these designs. The chameleon, water bug, and cassowary in particular are fantastic!

The poison chameleon and the cassowary are such good designs I feel so bad about them being scrapped
