  • democracynow.org - We discuss the ongoing stream of sexual harassment allegations by women against powerful men, and what experts say is a pervasive culture of misogyny that enables sexual misconduct towards women, with Rebecca Solnit. Her recent article is headlined, “Let this flood of women’s stories never cease: On Fighting Foundational Misogyny One Story at a Time.”

    This isn't just a male thing. I've been sexually assaulted verbally and physically by women and men. Sexual assault, regardless of the sex is wrong.

      Autumn clarke the point is that men are the main perpetuaters. In matrilineal clans you never seen this type of behavior. Abrahamic religions really accelerated males and their endless appetite for blood and suffering.
      I am sorry you were assaulted by someone of your sex. But in terms of men in general they are the main problem

    Until you go back to the family courts and GIVE MOTHERS THE POWER to take their children AWAY FROM a violent MAN, you are doing nothing but perpetuating the problem through generation after generation! Start by helping women Escape Violent Men and helping their children grow up to be good men, and it won't happen when they live under the fist of a violent father! Swear to God!

    This is why so many of us see all this shit as an attack on men.
    Its not a masculity issue. Most masculine men are decent people doing their own thing.

      This is not an attack on decent masculine men, only those who view vulgar, degrading, chauvenistic attitudes towards women, aka lack of common decency and good manners as tough , strong, manly traits when they simply are not.
      being one of the lads in a group of men doesn't mean verbal harassment, leering, groping, generally being an arsehole to girls and women just because they didn't swoon or smile at you passing by.

    I believe that no one should ever feel harassed or belittled by someone of the opposite sex, but that said it happens to be a fact that you are not going to change masculinity just because you are asking it to change. These are cultural shifts which take a long time, but that is assuming we even know what a man should act like.

    • @mycount64
      @mycount64 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      carpo719 actually I think you need to change human instinct not culture which means you have to either operate, medicate or wait for evolution.

    • @komoriaimi
      @komoriaimi 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      AW Crowe We are more than our instincts. Yes, instincts are there however if that was the case we'd be grabbing food at the supermarket and running with it. A guy jerking off to a woman that he has cornered and jizzing in a plant pot is more complicated than instinct.

      carpo719 We do know how men should act. How about acting like a normal thinking human being instead of behaving like a rabid animal that has no control of itself? Is that just a bridge too far for the male ego? Perhaps it is.

    Notwithstanding the clearly odious character of the actions committed by people like Harvey Weinstein, equating these with "masculinity" and suggesting that "men" in general "admire" creeps and sexual abusers is simply slanderous and really not helpful. This type of misandrist rhetoric is what makes so many people unwilling to call themselves "feminists" even though they embrace the ideal of gender equality.

    1 in 3 women get raped or beaten in their lifetime, myself included. I'm well versed in the grime and psychopathy on this planet, primarily of the male race. Dead men don't rape. Lets hope there's no blowback for this unholy destruction.... but the anger is there, and I can't promise I wouldn't get swept up in the tide. But we've been through the witchhunts and we know better than to become matriarchs. We will rise up, militantly but not militaristically, and take back our power through collective empathy and strength. Watch out men, we're taking our power back so get with the program or karma will get you... and karma will always win out. Nature will always win out. Get ready to accept the consequences of your violence.

  • @ruebenshaw
    @ruebenshaw 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    So she's making the statement of how can we stop this systemic problem well let's start off by saying when she said this thing that makes men feel powerful when they do that well on some respect may not be connected to work but the attention that women give to men when they are in a position of power which still doesn't necessarily have anything to do with each other but can't get confusing to the message of what a man thinks he can do as opposed to what he can't do

  • @ruebenshaw
    @ruebenshaw 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Everything she's talking about really doesn't resolve the issue as it relates to the ideas of what she thinks can be done because you were acting after the fact you need to be proactive before anything else continues

    It's a leap of logic to believe that male assault and male hate of women are the same thing. It might be more accurate to believe that men fear women.

    How about we teach women how to stand up for themselves while the assault is happening. Put the men in their place instead of waiting 10 to 20 years later. Notice the similarities of these men. They are men of power, they are not all men doing this. Most men do not do this. The system is changed when women hit the men where they are vulnerable and not take it any more during that moment when it is occurring. Fight back and then report it right away. Warn every woman you work with. Make those men's lives miserable. Fight back. Coming out 20 years later is not fighting back. Otherwise women are just silencing themselves for that 10 to 20 years before they finally come out. Stop raising our girls to be princesses. End princess culture. The Princess is the weakest archetype for girls. The princess has no power, no voice and is lead to believe she's entitled to everything. Assault and rape will never end unless women end it themselves. Just like war will end until men and women lay down their weapons and stop fighting. Otherwise this story will go on.
