  • How do we imagine what’s possible, what matters? Who we are shapes what we do, and what we do in the present shapes the future. In addition to the many practical, scientific and material aspects, the climate crisis has cultural aspects with which we need to engage in order to meet this emergency. Drawing from the new anthology she co-edited, "Not Too Late: Changing the Climate Story from Despair to Possibility", Rebecca Solnit talks about the stories emerging from what science, Indigenous leadership, good organizing, and visionary thinkers are giving us. These stories offer the grounds for hope and the work hope does. What are the ways that what the climate requires of us could mean ushering in an age of abundance rather than austerity?
Rebecca Solnit, one of our nation’s most influential writers, thinkers, historians and activists, is the author of 20+ books, including: Orwell’s Roses; Recollections of My Nonexistence; Hope in the Dark; Men Explain Things to Me; A Paradise Built in Hell: The Extraordinary Communities that Arise in Disaster; and A Field Guide to Getting Lost. Solnit writes regularly for the Guardian, serves on the board of the climate group Oil Change International, and just launched the climate project Not Too Late.

Absolutely charming brilliant lady. Congratulations on your progress…I can’t even get my very rural town to make a community garden. While I have zero to subzero faith in legislation. I do whole heartedly believe in the power of people persons & a good idea.

Possible is a very long way from probable. Even probable requires global compassionate de-growth.
Honestly, in a world with war on every continent; political, religious and resource driven, massive human population overshoot, weather extremes, failing crops, melting polar ice, ocean acidification, threat of nuclear conflict, topsoil erosion, species biodiversity loss and an inability to accept declining standards of living, please tell me where your optimism is rooted. False hope is as big a lie as any other...

We’ve had the real solutions to restore and heal Mother Earth for decades…..it’s a horrible joke these videos exist…..Paul Stamets mushroom documentary alone gives actual hope and reason to jump in and get to work. Also hemp is extremely versatile for rebalancing environmental conditions of any kind.

@@r3b3lvegan89 Mushrooms and hemp ain’t gonna stop Overshoot, Aerosol Masking Effect, or the 1st Blue Ocean Event waiting around the corner.
I like mushrooms and hemp. But they ain’t gonna prevent 2.5 Celsius.

I advocate for climate change but we are already doom. No matter how much effort is and will be given to strive towards a change in global climate ,the political governance of all nations would still venture for devpt. which is the main cause of global warming.

Ok. I learned nothing new. I heard "I feel" a lot and not a word about science. Science has been pointing the way to reliable and safe power, clean water and air, lower atmospheric human impact for over 50 years while groups like this have blocked that science every step of the way. You don't want to fix the problems.

Please delete this video. Vandana Shiva Gabor Mate Steven Greer and Omali Yeshitela have been giving humanity solutions for decades but all y’all care about is views…..screw social media….I’ll take real life fellowship and dreams back.

Please don’t take it down. I wasn’t able to hear her speak. Without social media it would be worse. So much worse. At the least the words of Solnit and thousands of others would never be heard.
      All for truth. And transparency.
