I don’t think people realize Valorant was in development for 7 or 8 years before even being ANNOUNCED to the community. Riot can deliver a great MMO, but it will take a lot of time.
Oh, so now it's 'duh, of course it's gonna take time for a good game to come' but when people anticipate Ashes of Creation it's called a scam that's been 'in progress' since 1994 xd
There has never been an MMO development more stacked than this, none even come close by orders of magnitude. This kind of leadership, with what seems like a bunch of talent, backed up by pretty much endless resources, in an established, deep world with existing media. It's actually insane how many things are going for this game.
If the art is anything like the the art of the lore of Legends of Runeterra, it’s going to be amazing. One of my favorite things in LoR is seeing all of the different cards and the art for the lore
We're talking about RIOT say what you will, In my opinion it is th Art capital of video games. Ask any artist, it is the most prestigious place in the gaming world to work as an creative
I thought asmon was joking around when he was talking about the sims the first time it was mentioned but hearing him give that franchise it's flowers was cool. Whether you like it or not the sims is FUCKING MASSIVE and holds up a whole tent industry of content creation just like any other big game. It is a goddamn powerhouse that isn't slowing down at all and has been going strong for a decade plus. I don't even play the games but as a speculator of the industry you HAVE to be impressed w it.
I think he missed when they said one of the server engineers worked on GW2, which suggests they might use a similar structure. Megaserver for everything. The only exception is WvW but even that is changing to megaserver and basing teams on guilds rather than servers.
I don't think the server structure matters worth a damn. What will matter is how they use procedural generation and AI to create stories. The issue with modern MMOs is not enough content. Period. No matter how long you prep and no matter how many people you have working on your game, people run out of new content in weeks or at most, months. The only way to fix this is to make an AI Gamemaster that can build new adventures on the fly. Not everything should be made this way, there should still be handcrafted storylines, but without some way to generate new content, and GOOD new content, on the fly, MMOs are doomed. I've thought for a long time that was the next evolution of MMOs. You make a great world, with amazing lore. You make a great combat system, great crafting and harvesting systems, great PvP systems, and a great AI plus procedural generation system for adventures and THAT is the next generation of MMOs! There's no other way to make a new MMO that doesn't run out of content. Sure, what's been done before has been limited and kind of crummy, but those things are getting better all the time. They just need it to get good enough and the sky's the limit!
@@SouthernGuy5423 then you are clueless AI or Machine Learning is matter of fact just copy paste what they are already learn, It can't capable reasoning, understand context story or anything. everything in the game is written as according to lore carefully and not just you can throw into the machine and expect it make a new story and expansion or anything like that its just approximation and pattern recognition in the end of the day, and NO machine cant do thinking
@@SouthernGuy5423that’s not how you use AI, AI operates based on learned data and precise queries and won’t write anything worthwhile over what a proper creative team can do. LoL already has an established lore which can be explored by itself, what you need are creative writers not automation. It’s not just the tools you use, it’s also the people who use the tools.
@@yoshua5640 So, first off, the point isn't to get 10 out of 10 content. That's what hand crafted stuff is for. But an AI CAN make an infinite amount of 6 or 6.5 out of 10 content if its tuned correctly! With tuning and tweaking, we could maybe get to 7 out of 10. MMOs need a way to have more stuff to do, because they're biggest problem is a lack of content! This is not INSTEAD of other stuff, it is in ADDITION to it!
@@tonyhart2744 Sure. It can't make anything original. Let me tell you something. NOTHING in fiction is original, and hasn't been for centuries. Everything has been done before to some extent! What an AI CAN do is take hundreds, thousands, millions of stories threads and plot points and be taught how to combine them in ways that FEEL new and original to our monkey brains to give us a nearly infinite content stream. Some kind of AI content generation is the only way MMOs can overcome the current problems with the genre. Maybe it won't work. Maybe people will hate it. But the current model doesn't work, pretty obviously. Most new MMOs die terribly in just a few years. That leaves AI content generation as the only solution I can see. It WILL be possible eventually.
I never get excited for any new MMO's but just knowing Riots general success with their games, what seems to be a great experienced team, and their character design and art I've never been so excited for an MMO. They have everything they need to pull this off but man it does suck to think that this game will not be out for at least 5+ years.
The moment the exec producer mentioned he'd worked on SWG, my expectations for the League MMO went up exponentially. If it has just a fraction of the depth SWG had, I'm going to be so happy!
I never played SWG but it was in the same vein of classic MMOs like EQ, and my favorite of al l time FFXI. I am not excited for Riot's MMO but hearing this those give me a sliver of hope the game might be good.
@@fgklfglhfwg in the first half was at its height. Player towns and pretty much everything people ask for in mmos. And then they watered it down and removed things over time.
What makes a good mmo is not just looking towards new stuff, but old systems or ideas that could never have functioned back in the day due to limitations, but also what systems eventually get phased out or removed over time. Try to predict what things might become more annoying than helpful.

riot has the best chance to make an mmo that lasts. They have the world already, characters, some lore they can go off of, art direction. seems like they have a good team with good leaders as well.
With all the memes about league and valorant, riot has actually never let us down with a game. Everything they release is fun and overall enjoyed. I trust they can make the next big mmo
@@lj_aderyn They are just in balancing hell right now especially with all the changes they keep doing. 1 slight change to a character/item can either break them and now they have a 80% pick rate or make them so weak they get spammed with please buff comments. @@saylesz its funny that the people who plays league constantly try to not see riot doing this practice lmao. This is a thing even in modern fighting games with broken dlc characters, but for the addicted league players Riot is a saint.
Anthony Reynolds wrote the Word Bearers Omnibus and the Kharn audiodramas. He and Black Library had a falling out but some of his work has been phenomenal, especially when it comes to writing bad guys.
Honestly man, as a League player and huge lore fan and a regular MMO enjoyer, even though I haven't played much of MMOs, if Riot made a walking simulator of Runeterra I would dig it so fucking much it's not even a joke. People who are actually getting into the lore of League now cannot really understand how good the world of Runeterra is, it's like ok old ideas but they feel so fucking fresh, so different but yet so good. It's a modern-yet-classical take on everything we already know and love about fantasy in general, and the best thing is it leaves you craving for so much more. Just check cinematics. People would PAY A LOT to see a movie of League of Legends, people want to see their favorite characters engaging in an insane epic battle, you could see it in Asmon's reaction when he talked about the "Leonidas vs Athena" fight (Pantheon vs Leona) that shit is fucking cool, and when you know of the lore, you want to see shit go down so bad. Just needed to get that out of my chest and say again: If all we could do is move around Runeterra, that would be so fucking cool, just that would already be amazing. Now imagine an entire MMO. That's what we're dealing with.
Having the world before the mmo is even made is, I think, the biggest key element to the success of an mmo. Edit: Act-Man said it perfect, World Building before Open World. A built world is what makes the open world successful
I would consider it borderline essential. Most of the top MMOs now are from IPs that already existed. WoW, Guild Wars 2, Star Wars: The Old Republic, Elder Scrolls Online, all pre-existing worlds that were able to drag in their core fanbases. FFXIV is an exception in the sense that the world is fresh - however it follows the Final Fantasy formula and is still able to pull in the Final Fantasy fanbase.
i think the best part about having establish lore/world is the amount of time it saves. shits been building for years now they dont have to focus on lore and the world as much and they can fully focus on the main aspects of the mmo
@TheLoLPhreak1 Taking Warcraft, for example, it allowed us to move from birds' eye view down to 3rd person or even 1st person if you wanted, which was huge to me
@@Mitchel6489 yeah as I said, it's still got the final fantasy core, the classes, the eikons, the monsters, the magic. So as I said it still counts, just doesn't quite fit the same category as the others which all have preexisting worlds.
I think the faction barrier in WoW worked, emphasis on the past tense. WoW was one of the few options for mmo's in its time, leading to a humongous playerbase that could afford to be divided into 2 without it being inconvenient. But now there are other games, people don't need WoW to scratch their mmo itch, making the faction barrier all that more noticeable and tedious.
I agree. The horde vs alliance shit on the message boards when it was initially out was so hype, taking shit about battlegrounds and stuff. Loved it. But as times progressed and started diverting my time to other games as well, it got a bit annoying as I made new friends in real life that were on opposite factions. Would rather play something else with them as opposed to one of us rerolling etc. I feel it.
Agreed, it also created a lot of hype moments, screaming for the horde on stage at blizzcon. When you've got 10+ million players having opposing factions adds flavour, but now the playerbase is significantly smaller and most of the hardcore raiders have gravitated to the horde side, a faction split just becomes a barrier to entry
Factions are just designed and implemented badly. In your average AAA MMO there are zero benefits in joining the underdog faction. But if implemented correctly supply and demand would do it's job like in real world and the playerbase would automatically distribute evenly. For that the right amount of factions is required and how much players can shape and configure them to build different location factors compared to their competitors.
@@xomerprime In real life wars, factions aren't regulated by supply and demand. If anything, once one side is overwhelmed there is a strong incentive to simply surrender in order to preserve what you have. No one in a nation army would ever switch to the losing side of a war just because the losers need more soldiers to keep the war going
you can hear it in their voice how passionate they are about it i trust riot will do a good job, i hope i dont have to wait too long but its okay if i have to also
Honestly, servers in the mmo industry need to be next gen. I loved Eve's concept of one mega server not matter where you are from you can meet that person
i like how this is literally the top tier of mmo content, yet it still looks like some dudes from 2008 talking about some indie development. asmon being probably most viewed wow content creator and riot games being a very well known gaming company for sure. but somehow we still retained the vibe boys
@@jamesbrealg well, i think i saw a shit ton of league of legends "interviews" and previews about patches and stuff and its always super clean and feels very artistic with perfect light and all that
Riot has taken every right step forward with their IP over the last decade where Blizzard has fumbled so very hard in comparison. You can see the passion and how much they care about the LoL universe and it's hard to imagine them dropping the ball. I don't care that it's coming out in the next 10 years, but I'm looking forward to the fans getting a good MMO experience.
They 100% copy pasted two game modes so far, dota and then cs, let’s hope they can add something to the mmo genre which they for sure didn’t add to dota or cs in a meaningful way. They have that tencent bag tho so my guess is it will be successful
@@paradopx8618 yeah but Amazon has arguably larger bag and that didn't help them AT ALL... I like the LOL universe Riot has created but I am not holding my breathe for an MMO from them.
@@paradopx8618 and the LoL community just cant acknowledge lol. Some people I work with cry when i tell them these facts. As far as I know, Auto Chess started in Dota custom maps, then Dota Underlords took over, right after TFT came out. @@paradopx8618 let's be honest here. they are fucking doing amazing. you might not like where the game is at right now each persons "taste" differs. But when you go to twitch and browse games. and in the top 5 they have 3 games (and one of those 5 being "just chatting" ) you can't deny they know exactly what they need to do to make a game work. and not just work but make it enjoyable to watch.
IMO you need to have a pre-established lore to get/keep people invested in an MMO, especially nowadays with the saturated market. Wow is the classic example with Warcraft lore. Riot has such a expansive and established lore and fan base built around it that I predict this MMO to be an extremely popular game for years to come.
What I would love to see PvP-wise is a faction based tournament (in what form is secondary - hell they can make it even an ingame moba) for control over specific territories, that would give the winning faction some tangible bonuses, either at the territory or related to it. Like limited (till next tournament) access to certain dungeons/raids/resources/quests or whatever. That way you get the pressure off the back of people not interested in PvP, give hardcore PvP crowd a high stakes event, softcore PvP crowd can participate in the preliminaries (or other PvP events) and as an added bonus you might cultivate an e-sport sceene that way.
It would be cool if you could launch a game of TFT, LOL, or Runtera from a tavern in the MMO without having to open a new window. Play MMO -> meet someone -> go to tavern -> launch a game and play together Almost like a in MMO internet cafe
Regarding servers and their divide. GW2 does this well. They merged dead server for WvW (massive open world PvP against each server). But PvE side it’s mega server where it has multiple ‘channels’/maps. Makes you able to play with everyone and makes game look not dead. Since they mentioned they have engineers that worked with GW2, they bring mega server.
A megaserver that stealth tags random people into an invisible groups that can be filled up and regrouped if needed, but in general, you would see same faces running around/queueing (they get a priority, but if they are offline you would be queued with other ppl). Or if you group/interact with someone they get tagged for pririoty to "appear again"
I think factions should be like a mercenary type contract you and your mates are free to join together, but when the factions needs players you have set contracts for every faction and you will need to choose a side to defend and for those that want to pve they can help fund the army with gear and items while those who want pvp can duke it out giving incentives for both players.
Ice been playing the game Mercenaries: Playground of Destruction and that's exactly how it works and it's great. If you turn a faction hostile you just have to bribe them or do some odd jobs to get to work for them again and they all change their dialouge depending on how much they like you
This is what i've been thinking like you can play with your friends even tho he is from noxus and you are from demacia. like you can still play together but when there is an event or world event about fighting like Noxus Vs Demacia you go in fight for your both faction.
One thing i asked myself is: If theres a universe that already exist (like the warcraft universe), what is the point where the developer puts in the known Characters of the Universe and how well is their Story put together within ours, so they fit the Story and the timelines of each other. The League Universe has an insane ammount of story backround that got changed again and again, but where is our part in this universe if we are not a Garen, a Lux or a Vi and Jinx etc. ?
Having soft factions would be cool. Like all the cities/factions have tournaments against each other at set intervals or randomly and the winners get a passive world/zone buff for their faction. The tournaments could be Battlegrounds or different types of minigames. Maybe players could become champions for their faction by winning some of these tournaments and get some perks within their city. PvE/open world content you would still be able to group up with other factions and still have a competition between factions.
14:00 The advantage of servers is that you can choose if you want to play on a high populated server with many people or less. Transfer could be made easily, just make a global name Id for name tags and problem solved. Ideally you would want to everyone to be playing on a mega server, but its not possible if it happens to be too many people online compared to content hence why you would need sharding which is shit.
i really like how Warhammer Online did PVP and btw, there is 1 private server still around that has reverse engineered the game so much at this point that they release patches regularly for the game. Now that OTK develops games I highly recommend that Asmon play all the games he can for perspective. The private server is called Return of Reckoning.
ya was a big fan of warhammer online's Open world pvp sadly at the time I was running on a potato and the bad optimization didn't quite help, but good to know there are still people playing it.
The faction split in wow WAS a part of the gameplay... for YEARS... just because it isn't a part of the current retail system, doesn't mean it wasn't a good idea for the time. The problem was they abandoned any gameplay around that.
If you meet someone out of game and its like oh cool you play x mmo also let's play. And then you can't cause your different factions/different servers is something that absolutely dosnt have any place in a modern game.....
it does not work in league ... they got like 16 main factions. and inside of them are even more ,some more significant than others. and you can't group them into 2 BIG factions like horde and alliance, because that will destroy the world they build over 10 years...
I know they couldn't possible have a timeline for when things are going to get done. But I would love for them to have spoken on the possibility of scheduled updates on information releases. every 3-4 months just a brief update on what's being worked on or ideas being discussed.
I think it’d be cool to expand on the idea of a “mega server with channels”. In the purest sense I assume the channel is a number or something that can be changed while in game. It would be cool to have a mega server where you can choose a default “group”. If players are available from the same group they’d be shown preferentially compared to other players. With this structure it is possible to always have the world feel populated, while at the same time generating a sense of community through having some characters become familiar over time (since players would be paired up preferentially by group). As humans we are pretty good at recognizing patterns and will intuitively group a common community within a larger population. It’s probably a bit hard to balance moving people around, but I do think that MMOs with large player bases need some way to segment the player population to create a better overall experience. Without the segmentation you’re kind of just being placed in random matchmaking every time you log on.
Basicaly what they are saying its that they will "use" all the good ideas from Guild Wars 2 like all modern MMO's are doing. Even GW2 factions are realy well designed.
they should make it so different player factions can work together in PVE easily, but add in 1 change. IF you DUEL someone from an opposing faction and win, you get a buff for 30mins! You'll see people battling in mini disputes before heading off to battle together.
The first image of the mmo that was shown on there recruiting website was a girl that just entered Demacia and didnt look like she is from any specific faction, so I would say that adventure guild would be pretty fitting. The best "faction system" in my opinion, would be that the player is in a some sort of adventure guild like every other fantasy anime but that way players can fight and play with whoever they want and still be in any faction they want, and the factions shouldn't be that direct. Maybe it can work like it is in Warframe, each faction has its own points and they don't really affect each other but for example, you can join any faction in a pvp that you have positive points on or join pvp as a party that can choose any faction the same way.
And this way the story can be way more about you the main character interacting with the world and other characters and not just about the whole specific faction and how they need to win their fight even if the other side is good or bad.
Maybe a bit of a hot take but i think that the less specifics we get as a playerbase the more hype there will be to the game. Would love to know the basic stuff such as races, classes, factions and starting areas but i sincerely wish that a lot of the world, mechanics, systems, specifics etc. remain undisclosed until launch. Would suck if there would be the standard 2 year alpha into 1 year open beta with tons of videos, pre-release guides etc. I want a hidden, undiscovered world where as little info as possible is out there in the public. That's where a lot of the magic lies in my opinion, not knowing shit and discovering and learning about the game as you play.
Keep dreaming buddy. Alpha and Beta tests are mandatory simply to test playbility and look for bugs/glitches/exploits. Literally impossible for the team to test all of this themselves considering its a world intended to fit thousands at the same time playing. A team of maybe 50-100 wont be able to find even remotely enough of these issues to warrant a decent launch. If you want to go in blind just dont watch the content being made from alpha/beta testers.
@@zokora3656 i’m well aware of this, you dont need to explain the process for me. Point is the more info about the game that isn’t public, the better. Technical stuff like bugs and alfa/beta testing (Big or small scale) isn’t the problem. The problem is if the whole game is already out 2 years prior to the actual launch due to months or years of public betas where people can see and discover everything. I guess the ”optimal” solution (although probably not a realistic one) would be large scale closed beta / alpha testing. Cause if info is out people will for sure watch no matter what.
@@codexmusicofficial I agree people will watch, however if you don't want to get spoiled it's about your own strength of will not to spoil yourself. The issue is we need this time often so devs can prep and update the game and fix the issues during this 2 year time of alpha/beta. Just because issues are found doesn't mean devs can fix them in a day, sometimes these bugs take weeks to get rid off and in terms of exploits you also have to take into account different mechanics that for example work with an item that are non exploitive but perhaps get hit by fixing the exploit. Closed alpha/beta you still need thousand of testers and let's be honest even with NDAs in place there will be enough people that anonymously upload stuff on yt and other platforms
@@zokora3656 Totally agree and i definetely see what you’re saying. What i stated before is more wishful thinking than anything realistically applicable for sure!
I'm a simple mmo player. All I want is a WoW 2 with updated graphics engine still in a hand painted cartoon style but no silly looking. No useless overly complicated systems like so many MMOs try to make. Just the simple bread and butter but well executed using modern tech.
we had 3 factions in DAOC and it did work, we had 2 factions in warhammer online and it did work perfectly. any mmo without faction is just boring, cause it drains out the curiosity you have for the community you have no access to. it makes you want to go into battles, cause you havent seen their races and classes yet. it gives you motivation to become a good player. when you have games without faction barriers, you see everything you log out.
The similarity to this situation, to WoW and Warcraft… the first rendition of their universe, in the form of an RTS, captured our imaginations and hearts. We fell in love with the original IP. If you create an MMO, that allows us to live out our imagination through an in depth world, that we already love, it’s going to be huge. That team is stacked!!!
It's Riot, regardless of how good or dogshit the game turns out to be at launch, tens of millions of people will try it out at the very least. But just because it's Riot doesn't mean it will be the greatest thing ever. People need to temper their expectations.
It would be really cool if you could choose your faction and abandon it if you so desire. Then you are just factionless and can choose to join a new faction. Example 1: You pick factionless, you are just a stranger. Example 2: I betrayed Demacia and joined Noxus. Just a random thought that went through my head, not sure if another comment has said the same x)
Definitely a lot of hype about this game. Also, people that think vr sucks have only looked at the "pop vr" and never looked into the open source corn industry side of vr aside from vr corn. "corn pushes progress" and if you want to see what vr can really do check out something called VAM(virt-a-mate). Open source with loads of content on what essentially is a framework style scene viewer. It's pretty crazy how far you can push the capability of vr when a bunch of horny modders and basement devs work together and make content. The capability is there, it's the UI and ease of use that needs some love for sure.
It's good to see developers happy and excited about their IP you can tell they love the ip and they are excited to make an mmo and they arent kidding themselves about the scope of the project and the urge of building an mmo out of this lore and world has been building since the begining and hasn't been prematurely attempted. they get good feedback from their current existing competitive game which is exactly what happened with warcraft. and every player of league of legends is hyped to be a part of hte world theyve been playing for a decade already. importantly also is that at least in 2014 there were more ppl playing league of legends than XBOX LIVE per month.
One of the really good thing Riot does is balance a game for casuals and the top 1%. They are one of if not the only company where you can be whatever type of player and still enjoy the game. Just look at the people who play Valorant. It's a highly competitive game, but it's also casual friendly. There is simplicity, but also depth with their games. It looks like they got a good team for this and i'm pretty confident they'll do a good job.
your comment at 28:00 is exactly right! ive been saying that for years. the next BIG game is going to be a VR mmorpg. it's going to happen at some point, its just a matter of time. like imagine a "ready player one" type MMO.....
Good news is... It won't have that much of a problem now.... Riot invested in creating techs to sustain stable pings and massive playerbase per mega servers that they have in each of their games..... Iirc they partnered with CISCO in this project
@@rinkujoka232 I mean yeah that is great, but you still get bad ping if you play in na from europe or australia. so if they put out a single megaserver and put the server in NA, then other regions will have ping problems. If it's like league and different regions have their own megaservers then it is fine yeah.
factions where it's not about directly killing each other, but about gaining an advantage/profit for their faction against a 3rd party pve threat could be a good way of doing factions where it still creates that us vs them feeling that's necessary to bond factionally, without it becoming as toxic and focused on griefing.
I hope it DOESN'T have that realistic style of art. In the business side, you want the same style as arcane and League of Legends to grab more attention to younger generations, current and new players. Also, it's more aesthetically pleasing, in my opinion, and to stay consistent with the art style just like the FGC project Riot are working on (not sure if they are still).
It's really nice to have these devs discuss the game while it's still being made. And even go on and openly talk about the competition in any kind of way. In fact I don't think I ever saw anything like this. In most companies you'd get fired to do this, and here we are with these seemingly untrained boys basically doing PR work for one of the most awaited games ever.
I honestly think that they have now unlimited amount of content they can use. Every champion has some kind of lore which leads to the lore of the city or country or even continent. Then there are skin lines that can be also used as a templates. They can take things from actual League and put it in the MMO so they are right now faaaar ahead of WoW when it comes to lore atleast.
they should do something similar to runescape in term of servers, technically its just 1 big game with different worlds so it does not feel crowded. im not saying do it exactly like this, but something similar to thing would do the job. lets say you live in Germany or smth but someone is hosting an event of some sorts in US, you still could join the event ur just gonna have higher ping
in terms of style, i dont think they would go this hard, they will want basically anyone to be able to play the game and that style would look horrible on low srttings for people who cant affort high end pc. if you look at other riot games, you can run all of them to some extend on a damn 10 year old toaster . i believe they have the style in mind and i believe its gonna be good, but i doubt that everything will look so graphic, maybe the cutscenes will tho
People are also hyped because riots lore and characters is actually really good, it would make an amazing mmo setting and not to mention riot has had amazing success in pretty much every other game they've made and that's not even including league
Yeah but the art style sux. It's for kiddos. I wish they kept their original style which was much better since it was a copy of the warcraft3 hence much closer to vanilla wow.
I don't think we are done with the "basic" concept of MMORPGs just yet. The biggest issue is servers/netcode/latency. There have been some MMORPGs who came near to "perfection", like Darkfall Online/Unholy Wars with it's large scale PvP. I still feel like there are very few games which have really succeeded with the gameplay aspect in modern time. The old school games like Runescape, Tibia, Ultima Online did something that MMORPGs haven't explored further in my opinion, except for Darkfall and like Mortal Online. Everyone has followed the World of Warcraft formula and I think we are fairly done with that. But if a company delivers something like Darkfall while not screwing up big time, I am sold for a good while ahead without the need of VR or any of that.
Unlike other games/mmos maybe besides Arthas storyline, I'm actually really invested in the lore, even though it is memes about who cares about it, this will be the first time I will be invested in all the stories involving my favorite champions / world they are from. Also after arcane it's really hard not to care about the world in general because it just hits different then all these other games.
I think it is best for the faction system for it to be a reputation system or kamar system. For example, you can be a bad guy in Demacia with a bad reputation which make the shop around that region have discount for you or unlock a special quest like "an evil organization approaches to ask you to join them", but in Noxus you will have a good reputation because of your strength and your ruthlessness, etc...
Lmao, they said they watch his videos, they probably watched his videos before the mmo even got announced I imagine they were happy to get the authentic Necrit. 😁
So I think the best way they can approach this is how they proceed with the area. For example if you are currently working on Noxus story. You are Noxus, and combat as noxus. And then when you go to Shurima, you fight as shurima. And then once you hit end game, you chose a faction. And can change once a day.
14:18 spoken like someone that’s never played everquest2. I understand what you’re saying about servers. The only rebottle I have is I believe there should be dedicated PVP servers and may be dedicated role-playing servers and then normal open world PVP server. In essence there would be no difference between the role-playing and PVP servers, except for the fact that role-playing servers might be super casual. But I believe having a PVP server with open world PVP rules is much better than having a PVP zone.
Finally asmon starting to change his takes. At first it was don't change too much and if it works keep doing it. Now he's talking about needing to innovate and changing things up.
8:10 exactly the problem with a lot of modern games, they try to be realistic in terms of graphics and physics, and forget that they making GAMES, not SIMULATIONS
So what I’m hearing is two different kinds of pvp: the canon and the ‘fanon’ canon requires you to fight opposing factions and fanon going "lol what’s a faction" where you can play with friends
Honestly, if someone made a full dive MMO with AI NPCs like SAO or Overlord or Log Horizon or any of the hundreds of shows that clearly show an interest in that being made, I think that’ll be the gaming revival we need
What about factions that you join mid game. Like you start with your race/class, but you JOIN a faction, and you can leave and join other factions, also they're not barriered. Like you could join Demacia even if you were a Noxian, it's not like traitors don't exist. But no matter what you can play with each other in pve? Idk if this has been mentioned but just my small minded thought.
What if they did a thing where once a week/month or whatever Faction wars happen in game, say Demacia v Noxus on a large open battlefield, and it's a lot of NPCs on either side, and you can enlist to fight as a mercenary for one side or another, that way you aren't locked into one faction. So if you wanna fight with Demacia one time then Noxus the next or swap between which Freijlord faction you want to fightr with each week, with little to no penalty for switching sides each week/month, or benefits forts sticking with the same faction for multiple fights.
I would explore everything as long as my level can protect me from getting 1 shotted by aggressive mobs. lol I would definitely explore every dangerous region, and it would be very awesome if they put Fiddlestick as a hidden boss that you can only encounter randomly if you're in the forest at night. Just imagine you're going to the grinding spot at night time on the road with just a bunch of trees left and right, then suddenly the music stops, the ambience, then you would suddenly hear branches snapping you will notice it's getting closer then once Fiddlestick is close enough, he'll use his Ult triggering a scary music, and if the player gets killed they'll receive an achievement or if the player managed to escape they will also receive a very rare achievement.
@@3swordsjuno Yeah, It'd be really cool if they made him a random encounter, though at low chance like 5% or 10%. Just imagine players who doesn't know who Fiddlestick is. I bet they'll shit their pants lol, from a MMORPG to Horror game real quick.
A friend told me that if you make a game according to what people wish, it can become a good game. But only if one realises his own vision, it can become great... or totally flop.
@@SouthernGuy5423 then you are clueless
AI or Machine Learning is matter of fact just copy paste what they are already learn, It can't capable reasoning, understand context story or anything.
everything in the game is written as according to lore carefully and not just you can throw into the machine and expect it make a new story and expansion or anything like that
its just approximation and pattern recognition in the end of the day, and NO machine cant do thinking
@luscinia6217 right Final Fantasy's world is new but they still have white mage black mage red mage etc.
The lore guy working on 40k and other table top stuff for games workshop is a huge W imo.
Factions work in real life because it's literally life and death. In games it just fractures the player base.

That way you get the pressure off the back of people not interested in PvP, give hardcore PvP crowd a high stakes event, softcore PvP crowd can participate in the preliminaries (or other PvP events) and as an added bonus you might cultivate an e-sport sceene that way.
kind of like The Kings Avatar? that would be sick.

All the smaller games being put out right now is the foundation for the big upcoming MMO game I believe. The games with Sylas, Ekko etc

Sounds perfect tbh, I wish all MMOs did this
The fact that the Devs are this available show how upfront and honest they are.
...bro, it's a Chinese megacorporation. What are you talking about?
I can only hope one day a company makes a game a challenge like they used to be instead of participation trophy games like ffxiv...

I thought Necrit's pajama pants were just a part of his videos, didn't know he actually wore those out in public as well.

Just like old blizz, copy a feature and make it 10x better
I wish they would copy GW1 which is much better than wow and GW2

they should make it so different player factions can work together in PVE easily, but add in 1 change.

I want an mmo that is players vs players vs ai overlord. Seasons, weather, natural disasters, professions, and hobbies.
I love when you are walking or running and you look down and see your feet it's super immersive
Faction shouldn't be a barrier to gameplay?! Everquest!
we had 3 factions in DAOC and it did work, we had 2 factions in warhammer online and it did work perfectly. any mmo without faction is just boring, cause it drains out the curiosity you have for the community you have no access to. it makes you want to go into battles, cause you havent seen their races and classes yet. it gives you motivation to become a good player. when you have games without faction barriers, you see everything you log out.
@@thevannmann we get it, you hate them. you're everywhere in this comment section. take a deep breath ICANT
It's league of legends, it's all about pvp. I really hope they played or know of Darkfall Online. League would even be perfect for something similar.
"Always listen to our players". Forums removed btw.
You mean, the forum filled pron ? I personally happy it gone
As long as the megaserver doesn't have ping problems depending on where you play from, it's fine
Good news is... It won't have that much of a problem now.... Riot invested in creating techs to sustain stable pings and massive playerbase per mega servers that they have in each of their games..... Iirc they partnered with CISCO in this project
nvm. guy above me already said it xD
No joke, felt like they were talking about an mmo when I still played, over 8 years ago lol
they did
I hope it DOESN'T have that realistic style of art.
Being a bit older now, when Asmon says “out in 2035”, I no longer think it is so far away but hope I am still alive by then to play it 😂
Yeah 2035 will be here before ya know it! 2005 still feels like yesterday...
Shaco? his lore is literally evil (demon?) clown who likes killing. thats it
@@Dovsaspa and there is another 162 champs. So?
they should do something similar to runescape in term of servers, technically its just 1 big game with different worlds so it does not feel crowded. im not saying do it exactly like this, but something similar to thing would do the job. lets say you live in Germany or smth but someone is hosting an event of some sorts in US, you still could join the event ur just gonna have higher ping
in terms of style, i dont think they would go this hard, they will want basically anyone to be able to play the game and that style would look horrible on low srttings for people who cant affort high end pc. if you look at other riot games, you can run all of them to some extend on a damn 10 year old toaster . i believe they have the style in mind and i believe its gonna be good, but i doubt that everything will look so graphic, maybe the cutscenes will tho
People are also hyped because riots lore and characters is actually really good, it would make an amazing mmo setting and not to mention riot has had amazing success in pretty much every other game they've made and that's not even including league
Yeah but the art style sux. It's for kiddos. I wish they kept their original style which was much better since it was a copy of the warcraft3 hence much closer to vanilla wow.
needs another edit

@@nathie1750 Bro do you not know about the original lux appearance? If you dont you should check it out.

he's soo annoying I want to slap him. wtf who let kids tuck their ears into their hats?
2:18 Did that guy just say his name was "Greg Phallus"?!? That's what closed captions thought it was anyway
Secret missions is a must. Giving the sense of wimsy and wonder for the players to explore the world is a motive and influence for exploration.
So what I’m hearing is two different kinds of pvp: the canon and the ‘fanon’ canon requires you to fight opposing factions and fanon going "lol what’s a faction" where you can play with friends
I am wondering if they are going to announce something only when Season 2 of Arcane is released
I don't thinks so. Arcane season 2 will be released soon.
@@theveyas yeah, idk, I feel like we are at least 2 more years from Arcane season 2

Honestly, if someone made a full dive MMO with AI NPCs like SAO or Overlord or Log Horizon or any of the hundreds of shows that clearly show an interest in that being made, I think that’ll be the gaming revival we need
True, there are some VR MMOs out there but the tech just isn’t quite there yet unfortunately
It’s 7mins till 6am and I’m watching an Asmon video while I take a break from grinding Nightmare Dungeons. 😅
Same bro is rough out here
What about factions that you join mid game.
Such a big fan asmon! Keep killing it
We've been playing the same game loop for 20+ years. I'm ready for something innovative and new.
I am looking forward to watch my grandchildren play this game!!!
After watching that AI skyrim mod, i agree that some form of that, in one way or another, will be the next thing to push the genre.
I predict it right now mmo will start having ai that will make quests and voice npcs

I was always into League lore. Can't wait to play it and explore all of Bilgewater!
Not the first region I'd expect someone to want to visit. But hey, power to you.
Have you considered playing Ruined King?
I would explore everything as long as my level can protect me from getting 1 shotted by aggressive mobs. lol
I would definitely explore every dangerous region, and it would be very awesome if they put Fiddlestick as a hidden boss that you can only encounter randomly if you're in the forest at night.

A friend told me that if you make a game according to what people wish, it can become a good game. But only if one realises his own vision, it can become great... or totally flop.
So I totally understand what they meant. Take the feedback and ideas and integrate that to nurture your vision and not just oh you want that? there you go.
