- Took the Whaly out today to try for cutthroat trout again to see if I have better luck today. Didn't go as planned, but had a great day out in the water. I got to test how the Whaly troll speed is with the 20hp outboard. Got more practice & experience on boating, loading/unloading, so overall a successful day out. Let me know if you guys have any questions or tips on how I can be more successful at fishing this time of year. Thanks for watching!

Great video! Thank you for posting! I am a first time boat AND new Whaly 500R owner as well! This was a great beginner's video. I am still in the process of registering my Whaly since I bought it out of state and prepping the pre launch checklist for all the basics. I really look forward to this experience and learning from folks like yourself while posting my own vids for memories if nothing else. Anyway just wanted to say thanks and tell you that you should keep posting more vids when you can. That way all Whaly owners can start to benefit like I just did from yours. (there is hardly any US resident videos of Whaly owners that I can find aside from yours) Anyway, stay safe, enjoy the season & have a great day!
Thanks, I appreciate it. I definitely know the struggle of find videos on the Whaly. Will keep trying to bring more video like this out!
Thanks for the video. I'm here in Lacey Washington and I just got a 455R. I'm installing a center console for the 40 horse motor I'm getting. i hope to see you out there.
Thanks! Will be on the look out for another Whaly out there, definitely a rare breed up here in the PNW.
Excellent - Thanks
Wow I'm looking forward to get Whaly , can you give me a website how you can get one..?? I'm in Oregon State..!! Thanks brother ... 🤘🏻🤘🏻
I am looking at getting whaly 500r, I would love for you to do a thorough walk through (what's under the floorboards?) Detailing every feature. Can't find much on it and can't find any in stock near me.
I know what you mean, video footage is rare! I was waiting on getting a 60hp before doing a full review, but I'm not able to get my hands on one any time soon in this market... I'll try and do a more thorough review/walkthrough with what I have on the boat soon.
@@KAWFISHING eagerly waiting on your build. Are you planning on a center console or tiller?
I've heard out South Texas Laguna Madre Founder have a cousin that gets a bit big out there called Halibut, our size lower limit used to be 14" but I have not checked lately might have gone up, and then on some fish we also have an upper limit so keepers are inside the "slot" -I used to fish from a canoe at times with my dad, even here in the Laguna Madre, but our water is warm (most of the year, or from your perspective maybe all year long (I had a high school teacher that swam in the Gulf of Mexico every day of the year (out where Space X has their Boca Chica site now)
I would like to know why you choose a tiller steering over a console. I like the tiller for its simplicity and space savings. What are the disadvantages?-)
I'm using the tiller right now since that's what I have haha. I have the console ready, just waiting to get my hands on an outboard once they're available. The main disadvantage of tiller I think is it's not too comfortable to control it since you have to sit on the side while turning your head to look forward. Otherwise the space saving is great.
Thats why you need to bolt your engine to the boat.
Those holes are not for show
Great video, I'm considering getting one. Can you share any major cons that you have discovered?
I'll make a video soon listing out the pros and cons of the boat. It'll be from the perspective of a first time boat owner.
@@KAWFISHING great look forward to it, keep them coming.
Where did you find one of those Whalys on the west coast? I've only seen dealers out east. Thanks for sharing man. Learned a lot!
Thanks for watching! I had to get it ship over from the east coast haha
@@KAWFISHING oh crazy! Looks like a great boat though
Hi, I can probably answer most of your questions about Whaly boats on the west coast. I live in So. Cal. and have a 500R but I am fairly knowledgable about the whole line of Whaly boats. If you are down this way I can show you my boat. Mine is rigged for fishing, diving and exploring in Baja. Renaldo mountaingem6@gmail.com
I pickked up one from Waypoint marine: www.waypointmarineservice.com/
I like your idea for the transducer. I am grappling with the same on my build. Haven’t tried JB Weld yet, but should work right? Any insight into the material and how you think it would work if at all? One week closer to getting my baby. Keep it up brother. Will be joining you soon.
Nice glad to hear! I haven't tried that, but I assume a polyethylene adhesive would work with this boat. I'll give it a shot once I get a chance and let you know since I'm also looking for a good way to install a downrigger mount to it. Thanks for watching!
nice vid! really interested in this (never owned a boat). this looks pretty low maintenance. Q for you...where did you buy this? and how did you order with the option of the rails ? thanks again !
Got it from WhalyBoatUSA, they have accessories options you can select from.
Hi from Bothell. Great video btw. I am on the fence of buying one of these. I have a fiberglass boat 60 hp but a pain to upkeep fiberglass and flooring. How has it been for storing and durability? Thanks for your time
Hi Rick, overall, I haven't had any issues with durability and maintenance is primarily spraying it down when it down after outings or when it gets dirty. Check out my blog post for more details.

Great video bro . Can u send me the link for the trailer for whaly 500r bro
Here is a link to a trailer for the 500: www.polyboats.com/product-page/2021-galvanized-trailer-for-whaly-500
Totally normal on a 4 stroke to see some white smoke on start...should go away as engine warms ...👍
May I please know the landing cost of this boat in Seattle area? I have been trying to get the price from the Florida guy but he has not been responding.
The boat MSRP for around ~$10k and expect shipping to be another ~$1k.
@@KAWFISHING Thank you.. It. seems. the. prices have. gone up .. For 500R. with. Console,Benches,Navigation Arch, Bimini, Side. Railing its 15K. and with additional cost of. 5-7K for 40 HP outboard.
Also does the console comes with installation. guide ?
Definately normal
Oh and they make a troll down option for your motor I beleive ...I have a 2020 40hp yamaha and with the kit you can drop the rpms by 50rpm at a time to slow down with a button on your tiller handle ...just contact a yamaha OB dealer and ask...will get ya slow and also faster when battling currents In the Pudget sound for salmon...
I'll look into that, thanks for the tips!
They have it on the Suzuki’s too.
