Worked in downtown Charleston back in 2000. Used to buy hot dogs from this snack stand office whatever thing for lunch. Always told the lady I wanted sauce, mustard, and onion. She knew what I meant, but always said "you mean chili" to me. I believe from Huntington up to New Martinsville (maybe Moundville) over to Clarksburg down to Spencer it's called sauce. Ripley calls it sauce but in Sissonville it's chili.
Huntington is one of the Slaw-Optional Areas of WV. It interferes with the taste of the sauce, which is what it's all about. Midway and Frosttop are my all-time local favorites. Sam's Hot Dog Stands with their meaty and spicy sauce are outstanding. Hillbilly Hotdog's' Snuffy is the most Huntingtonian of their dogs. I will pass over Stewarts in dignified silence.
The chili world uses beans as filler but competition chili ingredients do not have beans. Hot dog chili or hot dog sauce does not have beans either. There is a difference. I ask you to keep watching other regions, again, the hot chili does not have beans. Thank you for watching.

I worked at Farleys back in the 70s I knew Nell Farley and her mom, they were always nice to me, her son Bucky Farley was another story....

You get a double-barrelled "chili sauce" some places around Beckley, too.
