  • #RayDay #ClashOfTheTitans #Okeydoo Ey up Rayvers! Had a lot of requests for this one. It's another trip to ancient Greece for some Ray Harryhausen stop-motion dynamation, with Clash of the Titans! What weird and wonderful creations will we see, and will it live up to the standards of Jason and the Argonauts? Let's take a look! Okeydoo!

Ray - You are in my top five favorite TH-cam channels! The comedy is absolutely brilliant and so is your puppetry!

Wonderful stuff. I loved the owl! And wasn't Tim Pigott-Smith dashing? I liked the nod they had to the owl in the remake though. Always a highlight of Christmas this for me! :)

I couldn't love Clash any more than I do, saw it in the theater at the most perfect age. I still love to pop it on, but 90% of the reason is the soundtrack is utter perfection. Love it. Granted, agreed, the pace is a slow burn and the action is not as intense as Harryhausen’s older work. But it's always succeeded at pulling me in.
Your review is beyond hilarious. I'll never be able to hear the "shower of gold" the same ever again! LOL!

Dear Ray, a good review indeed. But if one makes a mash-up of the 1981 For Your eyes only film. Then Roger Moore gets to play for Zeus.

I lost it when you brought in Lionel Richie's "Hello." Never thought I'd see that during a "Clash of the Titans" review...Well played, sir!

There's a real charm about stop-go animation. It's like watching Wallace and Gromit, Trumpton or the Clangers. I expect these also have lewd themes but one never notices as one is swept up by the magic of it all. Stuff CGI!

Agree with your thoughts, but it’s a bit of a shame as I think the Medusa scene is one of Harryhausen’s very best, but doesn’t get a good vehicle for it to get appreciated enough
It’s a bit like Matt Le Tissier when he was at Southampton

I agree that the Medusa scene was very good, probably the best in the film.

Lionel Ritchie I think was living under the floorboards at one point, very sinister. I loved this film and another fantastic review as usual : ))

How about a Greek mytholofgy trilogy, Ray? Jason and the Argounauts and now Clash of the Titans, with Troy completing the hat trick?

Definitely a mixed bag with a lot of potential.. If only it was as good as the trailer for it lol
Might want to give The Thief of Bagdad (1940) a look too, Ray. A big favourite for me during school holidays when they'd show it as the midday movie. Midday movie, what a quaint time the early 80s were.

Thanks for your fun review. I enjoyed it. I agree with you that Clash of the Titans was a bit disappointing. I didn't hate it and there were parts that were okay, and I did think the Medusa scene was kind of scary. But overall, in my opinion the film just did not compare with the superior and much more fun Jason and the Argonauts. I was 16 when I first saw Jason and the Argonauts. When I saw Clash of the Titans, I was 34 and was visiting my parents and other family in Virginia. A bunch of us decided to go to the movies one evening and I talked everyone into going to Clash of the Titans (instead of going to see The Four Seasons, which also was showing in the same multiplex theater). I remember my mother could not keep herself from laughing out loud at that mechanical owl. She wasn't laughing because it was truly funny. She was laughing because it was so silly. My nephew, who was 11 at the time, kept saying "Grandma!" trying to get her to stop laughing because apparently he was embarrassed. The worst part was that when we first arrived at the multiplex, we ran into some of Mom's neighbors. They were planning to see The Four Seasons, but based on my enthusiastic build-up of Clash of the Titans, they decided to see it instead! We didn't know that until we saw them again as we were all walking out of the theater after the movie ended. I felt kind of bad. They didn't really say anything, but it was obvious that they had not been too impressed with the movie. (But who knows if they would have thought The Four Seasons was any better. I've never seen it and have no idea how good it is.) I have seen Clash of the Titans several times since then on television when I have come across it while channel surfing. If I am in the right mood, I do find it quite watchable and kind of fun because I don't have the high expectations that I had the first time I saw it. Thanks again for your entertaining review.

I just watched "The Four Seasons" last month, because I found out it was partially filmed in/around the lodge in Stowe, VT we just stayed at last fall. The movie was cheesy, sentimental schmaltz, and I couldn't even place the bloody hotel! Great choice seeing Clash instead...I'll take the Kraken, Medusa, and a mechanical owl over bored, middle aged couples bickering any day...:)

Thank you for your vigilance, lewd themes can be quite disarming. I always enjoyed this for the same Harryhausen appeal, however forget Perseus’ (lack of) charm. I cannot forgive his irresponsible behaviour for forgetting and loss of divine gifts. Where’s the invisibility helmet, supreme sword and all knowing wise owl I gave you?
Errr dropped in a bog, melted in gorgon gore and fell out of a tree. Sorry dad, but I can probably get the swapped if you keep the Rumbelowes receipt?
