Opening Tutankhamun’s Tomb | Egypt's Ancient Mysteries | National Geographic UK

The discovery of King Tutankhamun's burial tomb was unlike any other archaeological discovery. Despite being found by tomb robbers, a fortunate landslide later concealed the tomb entrance again and ensured that when Howard Carter rediscovered the tomb in the 1920s, most of Egypt's most prized treasures, were still safe. Amongst those treasures was the young Pharoah's chariot, a beautiful yet delicate artefact. One that needed extensive conservation to ensure that it could survive being removed from the tomb and transported.

you have to remember that Tutankhamun's tomb was a rush job, the stuff left for him was almost an afterthought, he died very young and the older kings had far more lavishly equipped tombs with far more precious objects, more jewels and gold objects, in much bigger burial chambers, Tutankhamun's tomb was almost a cupboard compared to some of the tombs and that's one reason no one had found it as the grave robbers were after the big tombs, there must have been some very wealthy tomb robbers back in the day, or very dead ones,

I'm very proud to say that at the age of 7 on a family holiday to Egypt and we stayed in a hotel in luxor. we went to the valley of the kings and a member of staff let me behind a little wooden barrier at the time and let me touch the glass of tutankhamen's glass case he was in. Probably my favourite holiday. Until on the way back to the hotel we witnessed a controlled explosion by the Egyptian military (was cool to see as a kid though)
