You should do the western greenbelt, brewery to brewery. Your all-city is perfectly suited to the trail network (you don't have to take the technical singletrack sections). Best parking option (if you don't want to ride all the way from where you began this ride) to do it as a full loop is the park & ride along Carling ave adjacent to Andrew Haydon park. I would suggest going clockwise. Take Holly Acres south to the bike path that goes up the hill towards Richmond road, richmond rd into Bells corners, Whipsnappr is in the industrial blocks behind the Shoppers drug mart and Metro on your right. Get a half pint to fuel up then cross richmond into the neighborhood (think its lynnwood village), and head for bell arena and bell high school. You can enter the greenbelt trails there. Then its a rambling list of trails. NCC 27 takes you up to hunt club, cross there and NCC 26 which the wider route takes you into P9 Jack pine area along Moodie, then you can get towards P10 Lime Kiln and NCC 25 (and Shorter is towards P8 where the bird care center used to be and NCC 26 which intersects 25 at a 4-way intersection). 25 takes you WNW to P6 Old Richmond lot and NCC 24 which can take you northwards towars the TCT right by Robertson road and next to both Kitchesippi and Conspiracy Breweries. Kit has better bear and largely relies on food trucks, and Con has better food, IMHO. After that you can use the gravel , dirt and paved sections of the TCT to basically get you back to the parking lot you start from.
👀 thanks for the tip! I’ve done those trails a couple times on my mountain bike but lately have been enjoying underbiking a lot more so I may need to go back! I also love riding out to bells corners and then out to quitters coffee (r.i.p) but should do a beer stop one of these days!
Good to see someone who actually cycles in Ottawa! I love my bike but I don't cycle much because I'm near Bank and that street feels like an absolute death trap for bikes. I went to the Netherlands recently and if you haven't been, the cycling is exactly as good as people say. I used to live near this great long path sort of park we all called the Bird Sanctuary in Alta Vista, now that was great for bikes when I was a kid. It's small but I have fond memories of using it to get to my friends places.
South side of ottawa is super underated bike cyclist here. As show in the video there's a creat variety of traisl that make for delicious All Terrain Cycling. I ride a lot fo these same traisl, but do so with a mini cow bell (that ti can turn on and off), people always here me coming. There is also some awesome stuff out in Kanata.
Great vid, just subbed. Exactly the type of ride I like to do on my GM - I love this bike. Currently running Maxxis Ikons 650b 2.35”. Would love to see an updated bike check. This area seems to have some really great cycling. Looking forward to checking out more of your content.
Thanks for the kind words! Nice to hear from another GM rider, it's such a special bike. Good call on the Maxxis tires! I've switched mine to 700x47 recently but am itching to go back to 27.5. I'll definitely do an updated bike check soon. Cheers!
@@bike.breath Sense of direction, near photographic memory... i'd just go in and keep riding different directions and trails until i have a mental map of every trail memorized. I instantly recognised the trail you did off Albion and I haven't ridden it in over a decade.
I was running salsa cowchippers here but I’ve recently switched to some more flared velo orange bars. I also have some alt bars lined up for this bike that I plan to put on soon.
Great video! I will seek to copy your ride, i live in Ottawa. I just bought a gravel bike. Would you say your tires are closer to being Mnt-bike tires? They seem thicker than whats on most gravel bikes i think?
Thanks for watching and I’m excited for you and the summer of riding your new bike! My tires are very large, yes. It’s common to see gravel bikes come with a 42c tire and these are a 55. Both are fine for riding this route, I just was enjoying a huge tire at the time. Here’s the route if you have strava: strava.app.link/pZ919vmEaJb
How are you liking the Gorilla Monsoon? I'm thinking about picking one up as my all-rounder since I only have room for one bike right now. Looks like it's fun for just about everything.
I love it! I’m working on a long term review of it but in short, I bought it as a second bike to a carbon gravel bike I once owned and it’s become my number one bike over the last 5 years or so. For a steel bike I find the geometry makes it fairly quick moving. Super capable bike in numerous configurations.
Hi, wonderful video - I'm just getting into biking, and especially All terrain/gravel riding, and I see a lot of people using garmins/bike computers on their rides, but i'm curious what the purpose is for that? Do you use it for GPS for your route, to track the ride or to keep track of some other information? Is there a benefit for using a computer over your phone for example? I always assumed it was mostly beneficial for road biking, where performance is a key factor. I'm not that fussed about performance, but rather the enjoyment, so curious if a computer will add to the ease and comfort of riding like this, or if it's not really necessary. Thanks for any input, love your video.
Hey! Thanks for the kind words :) To be honest I got this cycling computer years ago on a discount, and now that I’ve used it for years I’m not sure I personally would prioritize buying one. It is great but I think it’s all about your preference. For me a phone can definitely do the trick. I don’t mind not seeing the statistics like speed, elevation, distance, etc while I’m riding. I often don’t even track my rides. But some benefits I’ve noticed: the battery lasts really long so on days where I might ride 100km it’s nice to not rely on a phone for gps, tracking, and maybe music + photos as I’ll drain my phone battery likely. I’ve never used the GPS function but know a lot of people love it. I probably should try that because stopping to check your phone when you’re riding an unfamiliar route can get annoying. Tracking a ride like this one was nice because it turned out to be a fun one and now I have the route saved for future reference and can upload it to the gps if I’d like. I don’t really think the computer adds to the comfort or ease (unless maybe you’re using the GPS) more than a phone can. It is kind of fun to see your speed and stuff but again it’s all preference.
No haha, I think they were just telling me to get out of the way because I pulled over and they kept going. They didn’t have a siren on as they crept up on me either so it made me jump lol.
Were those geese that got out of the way? If so, did you pay them off camera or something? They own Ottawa. I've had them brazenly cross the on ramp to the 417 without a care in the world.
