Aw the English men ran intae each other Nane could turn about, nane could gae much further Some fell o'er the side in the Forth was drowning Some were left tae dee on the Brig O' Stirling Love that bit. You can just feel the songwriter/singer taking such visceral delight in the death of those poor hapless sods.
Doon by Stirling Brig, the Wallace lay in hiding As the Englishmen, frae the south came riding Loud the river Forth, between them baith was gurling Gurling oot o' sicht, below the Brig O Stirling Watching frae the wood, the Wallace and the Moray As the English Cam' wi' the Earl O' Surrey Ane by ane they crossed, a' the brig was filling Still they onward cam' o'er the Brig O' Stirling Wallace gave the shout, oot his men cam running Stopped the English host on the Brig O' Stirling Cressingham turned round, the brig was sma' for turning Moray cut him down on the Brig O' Stirling All the English men ran intae each other Nane could turn about, nane could gae much further Some fell o'er the side in the Forth was drowning Some were left tae dee on the Brig O' Stirling Surrey he was wild, could nae ford the river Wished wi' all his mecht that the brig was bigger Then he rade awa, loud the man was cursin' He'd lost a' his men, and the Brig o' Stirling.

I could name a few but I get your point.Pacifism is curse tae Scots. We stagnate.I`ve seen Scots appalled by our boldness. Not civilized enough for some. But I`m not one of them. They`ve forgot yabawbag why....ha ha
Was there ever an actual DVD performance of this particular song? I'm looking for a DVD for my folks, and none of the ones I've seen have this song (which is pretty much their favourite).
NEVER heard them do a bad one - & the way they could get into a song, re-arrange it & make it FAR better than anyone else could even hope for used to amaze me. Saw them once live @ Montrose - in a class of their own !

What a weird specimen you are
Doon by Stirling Brig, the Wallace lay in hiding
As the Englishmen, frae the south came riding
Loud the river Forth, between them baith was gurling
Gurling oot o' sicht, below the Brig O Stirling
Watching frae the wood, the Wallace and the Moray
As the English Cam' wi' the Earl O' Surrey
Ane by ane they crossed, a' the brig was filling
Still they onward cam' o'er the Brig O' Stirling
Wallace gave the shout, oot his men cam running
Stopped the English host on the Brig O' Stirling
Cressingham turned round, the brig was sma' for turning
Moray cut him down on the Brig O' Stirling
All the English men ran intae each other
Nane could turn about, nane could gae much further
Some fell o'er the side in the Forth was drowning
Some were left tae dee on the Brig O' Stirling
Surrey he was wild, could nae ford the river
Wished wi' all his mecht that the brig was bigger
Then he rade awa, loud the man was cursin'
He'd lost a' his men, and the Brig o' Stirling.
The best version I've heard, that is what I call a war song, fires my blood.

Love this song, first heard it sung by Steeleye Span. This version is so much better.
No, you heard them try to play "cam ye o'er frae france", same tune tho
Love their accent
Hazel Sidra: You mean their pronunciation, not their accent--which is not particularly noticeable.
ALBA GU BRATH
if was 4 years later the jacobites would have kicked the provost arses ...
Too many diddleydums in this version. You'd think they'd fogotten the words and are filling in!
