    For those who may not know the derivation of Cariad. It's a Welsh term of endearment, embracing words such as darling, love, sweetheart. This is the first time I have come across it's use as a name. I like it.

    Why would it even be a problem to do different accents on the phone? Who is it hurting? As long as you properly take care of the ringers enquiry what the hell does it matter which accent she uses?

    • @Widdekuu91
      @Widdekuu91 6 ปีที่แล้ว +35

      +Hypercube
      I'm guessing, if she sounds Welsh and the person on the phone calls back and says; 'The lady on the phone with the Welsh accent gave me the wrong numbers' it'd be difficult to track her down (assuming there were many people on the phone.)
      And it might make it more difficult to people to hear her...or...they wanted her to use 'proper' english, so it'd sound classier. I don't know.
      But I would do the exact same if I was her.

    • @lwaves
      @lwaves 6 ปีที่แล้ว +42

      +Hypercube1729 Technically, it shouldn't be a problem and no one would be hurt as long as you did the job properly. But then you have to remember that this was the Royal Mail and (like any big company) they don't believe in fun, especially not in the work place. They are full of stupid rules and regulations.
      It's the same as those call centres that insist on people wearing suits, or the female equivalent, to work. Who exactly is going to see you outside of your work colleagues? How is wearing (or not wearing) a suit going to affect you doing your job? Answer: It doesn't.

    • @thedunyadoneya2628
      @thedunyadoneya2628 6 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      lwaves in fact, not being allowed to wear your normal clothes might hinder you from doing a good job as you don't feel as comfortable and relaxed, and are a bit uptight. I was so confused when I heard there were some call centres who actually enforced that rule

    • @lwaves
      @lwaves 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Triangle Passing Movement I've never worked in a call centre (never will) but that would be me. I don't feel comfortable wearing a tie and jacket in any way. I find them both restrictive and uncomfortable, especially the tie. I didn't even wear one for the funerals I've been too.
      Yeah, a mate worked for one for a short time and they did it. There was also a call centre on some reality show who did something similar in the clips I saw.
      It's an old, leftover tradition from times past when wearing that type of clothing was a regular thing because it's all people had (essentially). The better the suit the better off in society you were and potentially the better educated you were. Complete bollocks of course but that's how they saw it back then. Obviously I get looking presentable but you can do that perfectly easily with casual clothes these days.

    • @thedunyadoneya2628
      @thedunyadoneya2628 6 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      lwaves I have worked in a call centre. Fortunately, there was no defined dress code (a guy actually came in wearing an (empty) gun gollister once 😂). I later worked in court where it was mandatory to wear a suit or something similar if you were going to potentially speak in court on behalf of the CPS, probation or the representing solicitors. Ironically, as I was leaving the call centre, there were discussions about how a formal dress code needs to be brought back in, and as I was leaving the job at court, there were discussions of how it shouldn't be necessary to wear a suit (especially in the summer).
      Just a hypothesis, but I think the idea behind having a defined dress code like wearing a suit etc, especially at a call centre, is primarily to give the employees a sense that the job matters and so they have to perform well. I find it difficult to believe the people who are in charge of such decisions are so out of touch that they actually think it's so necessary to present yourself well (even when you aren't in a customer facing role) to the extent that it means you need to wear a suit. Especially in this age of "smart-casual" wear.
