The air fryer lid for the Instant Pot--Mealthy Crisplid

  • Today I'm going to share with your my thoughts on the Mealthy Crisplid ( Mealthy lid: amzn.to/2K1jt06 *) plus show you how I use it to make french fries and crispy bacon.
Join the 365 Days of Instant Pot Recipes FB Group: / 365daysinstantpot

    www.365daysofc...

The Mealthy CrispLid turns your Instant Pot (or other 6 or 8 quart pressure cooker) into an air fryer. It is basically a heating unit and fan attached to a glass lid that fits on a 6 or 8 quart pressure cooker pot. It can broil, crisp, or air fry your food.
The CrispLid comes with a long-legged trivet, a fryer basket, silicone mat and tongs. Plus it has a small recipe booklet and instruction manual.
The CrispLid costs about $50. It is a good choice if you want an air fryer, already own an Instant Pot and don't have much space in your cupboards for another appliance.
The CrispLid seems to work best as an air fryer if the food is all in one layer. This will help the food crisp up a lot better. If you're looking to cook a lot of food then you may just want to use your oven. I would recommend the CrispLid for families up to 4 people. For example, you can only really "fry" one to two potatoes at a time.
The CrispLid comes in handy for melting cheese on your Instant Pot casseroles or crisping up chicken skin after it has pressure cooked.
I love that you can peek through the glass lid and check to see how the food is coming along.
It's easy to pause the air fryer by simply lifting the lid handle. Then resume cooking by clicking the handle in place.

I'm on the Mealthy people on facebook all the time and some even bake chicken etc. and some of this in the recipe book that comes with it. So far if you like chicken wings, chicken breasts flattened, and french fries that's what i did but some others have made much more. Really like mine for browning. Excellent comment by you Karen as always.. the tong fits well in the basket too but some don't like it in that hoop, so just have mitts on. Also there is parchment with holes made into them to place in basket and add spray to both.

Ive had mine for a week now and I love it! Just made two ingredient bagels for breakfast in my instant pot with the healthy lid, they came out wonderful! I think for a side dish I'm going to lightly steam some leaks salt and pepper them, then crisp them a bit and drizzle some balsamic vinegar on them.

My 35 YO microwave died. Hubby agreed if i bot an Ultra IP, (no microwave), everyone would be happy. DEAL! I LOVE MY IP. But, the crisp lid IP came out about a month later... what to do? I have a Nu-wave to do the melting, reheating , etc., If it gives up the ghost, I'll get the Mealthy lid! This way I have the Ultra and a way to broil. Yippee. And thanks for sharing your insights!

Tried ours tonight. Made chicken wings. Hubby said they were the best wings I ever made. Not as dry as they tend to get in the oven. Cleanup was much easier than I expected.

I used our 6-quart IP. Add 1 cup water, place the trivet that comes with the CrispLid, add the basket (after spraying with nonstick cooking spray) add in seasoned wings (I used salt and pepper). High pressure cook for 7 minutes then QR. Remove water from bottom of IP liner. I crisped the wings for 16 minutes, turning in 4-minute increments, but I like them extra crispy. (8 minutes might be okay for some). Lastly, and this is optional, I removed the wings, placed them in a bowl and tossed them in our favorite sauce. Hope this helps. BTW... I love your channel and FB page!

Karen, at first I thought: SPLENDID! I WANT ONE. But then it seems quite limited in food volume, not a time saver, and what about clean-up (there's the bulky I.P. inner pot, utensils, the lid itself, the wire basket, silicone mat, and trivet). There must be ?some? 'powerful' selling point you can share so I can, indeed, purchase it for $50?? Thanks, and if I 'do' happen to get one, I'll be looking forward to your Air Fryer attachment recipes. : )

J Jo, for those of us who do a lot of instant pot (instead of big-oven hotness in the kitchen), this is perfect for browning/broiling etc [that’s only a couple small things to clean-sometimes only one]. Makes my meals quick and hassle-free.

If you wipe the basket with a little cooking oil on a paper towel the fries don't stick to the basket so much. One of my favorite uses is to bake Pillsbury Grands frozen biscuits. The biscuits turn out golden brown and perfectly cooked.

i would worry about the Instapot front control panel getting ruined over time due to the the heat from the Mealthy Crisplid. The Instapot control panel is designed to withstand heat while using the Instapot only. If the Mealthy is used frequently 7 - 10 times a week I think the high heat coming down into the Instapot would mess up the front control panel. Just using the Instant Pot insert with the Mealthy appears top heavy. For the price of the Mealthy I would get a family sized airfryer instead.

I Just read the instruction book and you are NOT supposed to put water in the main pot when using the Crispy lid. It tells you in a few place to remove any liquid that may be left in the pot if you just cooked something and now want to crisp it. Water splashing up if it boils can hit the coil and you will have a fire or short it out. Please correct this. No water or liquids

    • @ThistledownThreads
      @ThistledownThreads 5 ปีที่แล้ว

Probably add 1/2 inch of water to keep the bacon grease from congealing in you pot. Makes it easier to clean. Of course you would want the grease to harden, so you can fish it out before pouring the water down the drain. I'm guessing. It would be nice if Mealthy would explain why you put water in for bacon.

The Thumb up is because this is a good review. However you could simply buy a Halogen Oven for a little less money. For the same reason the daft Ninja Thingy is not worth the money. You mention the even layer which has to be to cook chip (you would say fries). I have an Air Fryer which stirs as it cooks. I bought it a long time ago so my idea of cost will not be accurate but the BEST way to cook Chips has ALWAYs been the deep fryer.
