Must have accessory for your Instant Pot if you live on a small yacht is a large fishing net you can wrap the instant pot in and then hang it from the galley ceiling on a single hook. It can safely cook without sloshing it's contents while the rest of the boat moves about in sea state 4 waves.

The video was so helpful. I have had my instant pot for two or three years probably. Might get the three quart as dont cook as many things in it as I did because of the quantity of things I cook but really love it. Have some of the accessories but not the thermoworks spatulas. Great to know advantages of those and the heat it can take. Was always worried about plastic from spatulas melting.

A regular steamer basket works fine in these! From eggs to a chicken to a roast. Just a regular steamer basket from Wally World that you probably already have. It just doesn’t have a sling to lift , but it’s nice because it expands to the size of the pot. Regular hot pad and your oven mits.

Lisa, love the shoutout to silicone rubber spatulas - my pet hate is watching TH-cam and TV chefs make sauce, cake mix, batter etc. then use a metal spoon to noisily scrape the gloop from bowl to pan, leaving lots behind. Rubber spats are so quiet and efficient, scrape out cleanly, and the bowl washes up easier afterwards. Here in the UK, Lakeland online have nice ones and seem cheaper than The Big River.

Tip for you on the silicone muffin cups, they work in the air fryer as well. We crack an egg top it with chopped green peppers and onions and then cheese. Cook at 300 in the air fryer for 7-8 minutes or more if you want the egg completely done. Also works with scrambled eggs also.

I'll add a 30th. Three wide-mouth, one-quart mason jars fit (just barely) into the six-quart pot. Yogurt-making become much easier. Add about a quart of water to the pot itself to spread the heat around. Fill each of the jars with milk. Then follow the standard sterilize, add yogurt starter, and fermenting process. To cool the sterilized milk down before adding the starter, you can take the jars out and cool them in a container of cold water. The best comes when the yogurt is made. Simply add a lid and put the jars in the refrigerator. No pouring. No messy cleanup.

The “egg trivet” that has holes is for cooking the eggs upright with the small end down. This allows the yolk to center in the egg for a prettier deviled egg or scotch egg. If you lay the egg on it’s side on a regular trivet the yolk will drop to the bottom and be closer to one edge than the other. Which is fine if you are just dicing up the hard cooked eggs for egg salad.

I’ve been cooking in my instant pot now for 6 years. 95% of my cooking is in it. Have the stainless steel stackable and use for reheating frozen foods such as lasagna etc. also make my eggplant parm in them..I use the metal steamer basket for eggs and veggies..love the egg bite mold…I agree with you to use the instant pot before you run out and buy accessories..Many items you have already can be used.but I could not do without my instant pot..

I agree with having more than 1 pressure cooker! I have one 8qt, two 6qt & a 3qt. It's handy for the reasons Lisa mentioned, and it also makes meal prep day super easy. Different sizes for different purposes, too. I make my yogurt PIP which takes up extra room. To get an entire batch done at once it takes my 8qt & my 3qt. If you think about it, we all have more than 1 sauce pan & more than 1 frying pan for the same reasons. 😊 Also, a quality pot or pan can easily cost more than a PC.

The only accessories I bought were a non-stick inside pot and the higher steaming rack, I just cooked basic things and it was fine. You are right, don't go crazy on accessories.
One-piece silicone spatulas rule! 😊 Such money-savers because you clear out every jar, they also protect your dishwasher because you can clear all the dishes from food waste.
I also use them as a cooking device.

Such a wonderful updated video! I have made great use with my stainless steel mixing bowls for the pot-in-pot cooking, and I have definitely considered more accessories, especially the steamer basket! Love the rice strainer bowl since I also get frustrated about accidentally wasting rice down the drain. I also love your stainless steel cheesecake pan! Last July I went ahead and bought a spring form pan that fits in the 8 quart for my husband's birthday cake, and although it worked just fine, I learned later that year I had celiac disease and as I inspected the pan I noticed a lot of stuck gluten in crevices, oops! It only had one use LOL, so I'm so greatful I didn't buy another one and saw your suggestion first!

Hi Lisa, As a new owner of an Instant Pot I really appreciated this video. While I don't tend to just buy everything I see, I do like to buy things that work well which is hard to determine at first glance. I was impressed with this video until you got to the silicon muffin "papers", then I was 'Super Impressed'! I have been using those for years with my conventional cooking, and have given sets to every member of my family. The fact you liked them added credibility to your other item suggestions. The only request I have is if you know them, please reference the brand names of the products like you did for the spatulas . I've subscribed to your channel and look forward to seeing whatelse I can learn from you. Thanks for sharing. James

  • @CrimFerret

The accessories I use the most are a good set of tongs (handles and can lock closed for storage). Different height trivets (one has egg rings which is handy). The steamer basket for both steaming and sous vide. A glass lid which is useful for non-pressure cooking methods. With a sheet of foil or plastic wrap under, seals as well as the silicone lid but doesn't end up absorbing odors. I got the Instant Pot branded one which fits and is good quality. I do have a set of those stack pots and use them, but not often together. I could have saved money by just getting the ones you suggested. I still need to get a second liner, especially since mine has the flat bottomed liner that's stove safe. It would be hard to come up with a pot that size, that high quality for much less.
The one accessory I wish I'd never purchased is the silicone lid/cover. Put it on something still emitting steam to put in the fridge, it unseals, and then sucks down from the vacuum. It will forever smell of the combo of whatever you use it to cover. I threw mine out when I realized the glass lid was so much better. For that last reason, I'll never buy any more silicone accessories for mine other than sealing rings as needed.
The only chopping device you need in the kitchen are some cutting boards (one for meat, one for non-meat (the plastic kind are dishwasher safe), and a decent chef's knife. There are plenty of videos on how to use one properly. What sense does it make to use one of those chopper gadgets that you have to cut food to fit with a knife you could have done the whole job with and then have to clean the thing? You can get decent ceramic knives which stay sharp a long time, are actually dishwasher safe (though hand washing is still better), and they usually come with blade guards. Don't drop one on a hard surface though.

While true you can use the regular trivet to cook eggs, the air bubble won't go to the top if I am not mistaken. I do so many at one time I use the red silicone basket and stack with pointed end down and that works great. I start at the edge then move inward then upward. I steam 7 min with pressure/quick release/ice bath till it's all melted. If I did nothing else I would buy the tall steamer silicone steamer basket. I also got the shorter one with a divider that I love. I never use the baking pans I got so you were right about that. I love my sling and combine it with the trivet that keeps up just above the water when steam/pressure cooking. Love the sling :D the blue one is too floppy. It also works for setting and removing individual custard cups. Love your shows!

I've been planning to buy an extra liner, but they are a little expensive. I have extra sealing rings. I use the trivet inserts a lot to elevate items so they do not sit on the bottom or as dividers between stacked items like ramekins. You didn't mention the metal divider you used in one of the photos of the inside of your pot. I think that would be a good must have item. Planning to get 6" cake pans too.
Always looking for good a spatula. The silicone trivet is an excellent idea to protect counter tops. Another viewer suggested a tile with feet on the bottom to protect the counter top. I like that idea too. Recently I noticed our counter top was scorched under the toaster, I was not happy. I think a ceramic tile would prevent any more damage. We've had immersion blender or stick blender for years and love it. Thanks for the updated must have items.

I got my pressure cooker used at savers. It didn’t come with a trivet and it was missing the pressure release valve and condensation cup. I got it for about $18. I ordered the valve and cup from Amazon for $24. I bought an instant pot kit that comes with two egg trivets and two baking dishes for $18.99 and the instant pot silicone egg bite mold for $9.99. The other item I bought was two steamer baskets for $18.99. I’m planning on using the egg trivet to make ribs.

Ive had my 6qt duo for 3 yrs and find I use the silicone trivit to hold my Bundt pan, as it's easier and safer for lifting my meatloaf out. I also love my egg bites tool as I live alone and 8 is more than enough. My steamer is metal

Hello Lisa. Thanks for all of the great advice. I use the steamer basket frequently and it works very well. But I do have an issue cleaning it. I find that little bits of broccoli or whatever tend to get stuck in the mesh of the basket and they are difficult to remove. Do you have any tips or tricks on how to clean the mesh basket? Have a great day!

I heartily endorse your suggestion about reserving judgment about stocking up on a lot of accessories that you don't need and not subscribing to buying quantity over quality... this coming from someone who lives with the stress of excess!! I am a LONGTIME user of manual pressure cookers and enjoy the convenience of the Instant Pot. My first accessory purchased was a steamer based on, as you said, personal use and this only after extensive use of my IP and it has been, without question, an excellent buy. I did buy a very good quality stainless steel push pan for the day when I try a cheesecake in my IP. Being a longtime cook 😉, I have a large variety of kitchen supplies that can be used in the IP instead of buying things that serve the same purpose. I love gadgets and kitchen "stuff", preferably things that have more than one use, and this makes posts like this very attractive, if only to reinforce value in things I already have or might like to have (silicone sling). I very much enjoyed this...thanks!!💗

I had the Instapot Lux 6 qt. First. Today I bought the 6 qt. Instapot Duo Plus. I got it on sale for $50. I really wanted the Duo first, but it was out of my budget. I got a bonus of an extra ring and a glass lid. Your channel is very helpful. P.S. I found if I don’t close my lid on the pot when storing my ring smells less funky.

I am an old male...Two years now with Instapot. YOU are ALWAYS my favorite go-to for INSTAPOT help & tips; THANK YOU! My favorite recipe I've learned from you is "No Drain Mac n' Cheese" I make it with TWO boxes of CHEETOS brand mac'n cheese - (1) box of BOLD & CHEESY, (1) box of CHEESY JALAPENO *using 2.5 cups of water TOTAL (I think these are smaller weight noodle product) HEAVY WHIPPING CREAM in place of milk, OH MY! YUMMY! Anyhow, I just wanted to say, "Hi!", and, "THANK YOU". 💯

I was given an accessory kit for Christmas. Had about 20 things in it, the 3 of which I would use I already have. All but TWO items in the kit went into the donation box we keep by our door (when it is full we drop it off and get a new box). I kept a silicone pot holder and a small tongs.

There is a reason for standing your eggs with the narrowest part to the the bottom! Which is why those circular ones are better than laying eggs on there sides.
The reason is the yolk is contained within its sack so is larger space. So placing the egg narrowest side down stops it from settling to the bottom closest to the steam, instead there will be a collection of whites allowing the yolks to be protected and not be cooked to quick, which produces overcooked yolks that show with the distinct dark band around the yolk!
So to sum up if you want runny eggs (obviously cooked for less) or perfectly cooked yolks, stand with narrowest downwards.
When you are boiling eggs it doesn’t matter, because the heat of the liquid is exactly the same around the entire surface. But when pressure cooking an egg the area closest to where the steam is being released is slightly hotter.

The first accessory that I bought for my instapot was absolutely critical and it was a spare pot. I bought a ceramic lined non-stick pot for those things that like to stick to the stainless steel pot. The biggest thing was I could go in and cook a big pot of beans, and while they were cooling down on the counter oh, I could be cooking a pot of rice for the next 12 minutes, and when my rice was done the beans weren't too hot anymore period same thing if you do a really good roast with a lot of gravy direct report let you get that Rice or noodles done by the time your roast cools off a boil. I also found a stainless pot top that fits my instant pot pot perfectly while cooking with my second pot.

I bought one of the instant pot accessory kits from Amazon and love it! One of the best purchases I've ever gotten. Those little grabbers are amazing. I use them all the time to get the inner pot out or the trivet out. I would definitely get one! I don't understand why you're telling people not to buy these kits.

Thank you for sharing this. I was on the fence a long time about air fryers till i got one, and now on the fence about getting an instant pot, but looking at a lot of videos and looking at what i would do with it. We use our air fryer almost every day, but i am looking for new ways of cooking without using the heat of the oven. I live in Arizona and the house is hot enough without using the oven. Debating on a 6 or 8 quart cooker though. If i do it i need to do it right LOL. Leaning to the 8 just incase i find stuff i would cook bigger. But love your detailed video on the accessories. Thank you again for sharing.

Those cheesecake pans with the belt also get stuff in the rim on the bottom of the pan you have to clean out. I like the push pan design because it doesn’t have that groove.

I did order a nonstick extra pot--it's nice but it's hard to get the lid off because for some reason it seals too well to the silicone seal. My favorite thing is a pair of silicone pot holders that go over your fingers--I think I got them at Ollie's so they were not expensive but they've really kept me from burning myself. I found those 6" cake pans at a thrift store really cheap. You never know what you'll find there--I saw a lot of the egg molds before I bought my IP. I'd love to find that red trivet/pot lifter some day! The best tip is to rethink what you already own that will work in the IP.

I use the tongs for pulling hot jars out of the pressure cooker after canning goods. I can my own spaghetti/lasagna sauce and salsas in my pressure cooker. I get a lot of tomatoes from my local farmers market and food bank. Without the tongs, my hands would be terribly burned.

Hi. I'm trying several of the products you suggested from Thermoworks. Even though you are using them for an Instant Pot, I feel that they would be great for my airfryer and just for general cooking. I do love your program and am still thinking about getting an Instant Pot. But since there is only me, and I would use it for sauces and eggs (I would love to try them, I can't afford to get one yet. I do so love your program and enjoy watching you as you prepare the food and all your tips and suggestions. Thanks so much for doing this. By the way, do you have an air fryer? If you do, why don't you also do a show on air fryers. You are so good at this and I would be delighted to be able to watch you do air fryers too. Thanks again for all your suggestions and recipes. Just remember, most of us a terribly overweight due to having to stay in from the covid virus. Lol. So doing recipes that are low in calories and healthy are great too!
