More than 30 people killed in mass shooting in Thailand: Police

- More than 30 people have been killed in a mass shooting at a children’s day-care centre in a northeastern province of Thailand, a police spokesperson said.
Victims included both children and adults, police said in a statement on Thursday, adding that the gunman was an ex-police officer and a manhunt was underway.
The prime minister has alerted all agencies to take action and apprehend the culprit, a government spokesperson said.
Mass shootings are rare in Thailand but in 2020, a soldier angry over a property deal killed at least 29 people and wounded 57 in a rampage that spanned four locations.

This guy killed an innocently children while they were sleeping at day care and only one toddler survived because she hasn't been sleeping and ran out of the room after the gunshot, so devastating 😢 😞 😔 rest in peace all beautiful angels 😢 💙 💔

I can say that this shooting is far worse than the previous tragic shooting that occurred in the mall in the province of Nakorn Rachasima. At that time, all of the victims were adults; only a toddler died alongside mom and dad.

Unfortunately, I’ve heard of many evil things in this world. However, stabbing two dozen sleeping preschoolers to death is just about the most horrific act of murder and pure evil that I’ve ever heard of. This is beyond horrific! My condolences go out to all of Thailand.

@@adamryan1975 In Thai culture the reality of death is not concealed. Photos of people killed in tragedies are often shared as a form of mutual mourning. It's not uncommon for people to post photos of a dead relative lying in state, and there is a funerary right whereby friends and family pour water onto the hand of the corpse before it is placed within a coffin. A friend of mine from England, when attending the funeral of a mutual friend, said to me he found it provided much more closure being faced with the reality of it. It seems odd and outrageous to westerners, but it works for the mourning process in this society. In a situation such as this, it fuels more sentiment and abhorrence for the act itself. I've come to see that being far more open and not hiding the gruesome reality is a far more effective means.
Lots of Thais follow emergency response or rescue teams’ Facebook pages with the sole intention of seeing the photos of dead victims for the reason which I kinda agree with Stephen Thomas, and sharing the photos of the dead also serves as a “reminder” or something like that.

I'm Thai. Our heart are broken by this crazy rampage. It's shock the country. The murderer is too cruel. He shot children, teachers , many people along the way and his wife and his child. Only 1 little girl survived by the rampage in the children day care. She slept and cover by a blanket. The murderer thought she died.

As a Thai, I'm devastated to learn that Thailand has once again experienced a tragic mass shooting after the Nakorn Rachasima shooting several years ago. I'll always have a deep-seated conviction that a psychopath shooter will not ever happen again in Thailand. The first one was an ex-military man who went insane and killed almost 30 people, including a toddler, in a shopping mall. This is the second instance of a mass shooter being a former policeman. Why on earth has our society changed?

This is consistent with the historical values of policing and soldiering. Pillaging and plundering was the global norm just 120 years ago, and it was done by cops and soldiers that were carrying out the will of a nation state. The fact that you think this is out of character for agents of the state, shows your level of naivety.
If anything, there is a lot LESS killing, pillaging, and raping in most places in the world (including Thailand) than there was 100, 200, 300 years ago.

Most recent update from local Thai news: 37ppl including the shooter himself has deceased. The shooter himself was a former police who recently got fired due to drug abuse. It is "suspected" that he did all of these mass shootings while being depressed and high on drugs. Aside from shooting, he also used his escape car to crash into 9 casualties along the way killing them instantly. He went back home. killed his wife, kid, and committed suicide. Pray for Thailand 🇹🇭

I'm Thai, I have to say. This kind of calamity has happened many times, and the perpetrators are usually soldiers or police. They kill people with carelessness and easily own guns. In the news, children are less than 10 years old. Many were killed while they were sleeping during the day. Some of the children were shot to death but were repeatedly stabbed in the head. it's heartbreaking and made me lose hope of living in my own country.

The shooter was a cop that has been fired due to drugs addiction, involving in drugs trafficking, and bad behavior. After he killed children in nursery, he drove home and intentionally hit innocent people on his way home then killed his 3 years old son and wife, and committed suicide.
