ZOS are selling two NPCs for the price of a dungeon pack, that's the main issue of this update and a sign that ZOS are trying to get maximum money while putting minimum effort.
@victordragonslayer5794 fucking preach. They are not so subtly trying to push for a sub to play model. Not to mention, they are concurrently lessening the amount of content released and they want us to be happy about it.
"Non binary characters are the least wild thing in elder scrolls lore." 😂 that gave me a good laugh, so true Imho eso always did these characters well. It's never the character's entire identity, it's one piece of a much more complex character, just like real life.
intersex people are real. trans gods or characters in history are real. pretending you’re something you’re not is delusional. what people are upset by is that a character that is human and cannot physically alter their chromosomes or body like a god or a plant (aka molag bal, vivec, and frii) is claiming to be non binary. people can choose to think what they want, but these terms such as ‘non binary’ are new words in human history and when a game that is based in an old world fantasy setting uses modern words it breaks the immersion. Something all fiction writers learn early on in their careers is to not use modern terms in their fantasy setting. language changes over time and words like ‘cool’ probably didn’t exist in old english, yet nobody is expecting characters to speak old english so some concession is appropriate. but when a term is very new it feels forced; when a character in an old world fantasy setting says they’re “non binary” instead of “I choose to think I’m neither a man or women explicitly” or “I change my mind on whether I’m a man or women”. and lastly, many people will disagree but if you’re not a god or a plant or you can’t do a spell that turns you from a he to a she then all you are is what you are, if they make some explanation to why this character can shift gender identities that’s fine, like frii is a plant and plants are asexual, and molag bal is a god and if a god thinks something it is, but just because a human thinks something doesn’t mean the rest of us need to agree with them when the only change is in their thoughts. Saying this has always been in Tamriel is as much a lie as saying people who disagree with someone’s self identity is hate speech. They say it’s not a big deal and we all are complaining over nothing new. Then why do they say it’s their first explicitly non binary character and make it a big deal. people are tired of getting gaslit about hate speech just for thinking differently.
Let me put it into words that these people cant seem to say... Its not the character that upsets people. I mean there is gay characters, lesbian characters and Vivec exists LOL and no one has every complained about them. Its the INTENTION! We all know ZOS didnt just "put it there"
All the other companions have an archetype, Mirri as a sympathetic treasure hunter, Isobel aspiring knight, Azandar as the esoteric scholar, and so on. But the selling point advertised for Tanlorin is "gender confused." this is "their" archetype. Smh
It didn't bother me in the past, can't say it really bothers me now, it's just that I am seeing these kind of characters/couples more often in ESO, not to mention other games. Sometimes I feel it's "forced" (in the sense of ticking boxes, because none is forcing you anything). Unfortunately, coupled with this situation comes a decrease in quality of the storytelling. Writers are playing "safe" with familiar or childish tropes, and the depth of the stories being told is lacking.
i wouldn't mind wokeness if it didn't come bundled up with extreme censorship they now do in private chats and auto ban ppl for bad lango jokes among friends
I'm mostly indifferent to the companion. I think it's stupid but it's also a companion that I don't have to use. I'm already not playing ESO for other reasons so adding this isn't going to make me not play it more. The biggest reason this is annoying is instead of giving us things we actually want that would bring me back to the game such as veteran overland we get something like this that nobody was asking for.
Run all companions till you get their trinkets unlocked then just play your faves. Running Zerith-Var 1st for the keen eye heavy bag passive as I miss them 1/2 the time normally.
@@zombiejesus7445 Zerith is definitely my second favorite (close shot behind Sharp because Sharp does have that "skill issue" voice line). But I do wish they built Zerith's kit more equally around being a necromancer. I think he should have had at least one corpse generating skill and one corpse consuming skill per skill line, instead he has a corpse generator only for a tank focus skill and a consuming one for a DPS skill. Otherwise if you bring Zerith to fight any boss with no adds then there is very little potential to him being a necromancer. It's even more sad that he has some skills like the spirit mender that generates corpses for players but for him it doesn't. I'd have imagined they could also have made the flame skull a corpse generator because otherwise its almost entirely identical to the scythe but almost worst in every way except range.
The issue isn’t binary or non binary, it’s that it doesn’t serve the narrative evolution of the character. Vivec lore makes sense when you read the lessons of vivec. They didn’t have to point that out, put ugly ass spaghetti purple hair and caricatural voice acting. It bring nothing to the table but virtue signaling for Zos.
Oh no god. You fucking people expect perfection from gay or non binary characters. But will just shrug off millions of pointless straight characters. You fucking loser
"there needs to be a reason to make a character no cis/straight/etc" you can use different words, but your just using the same 20yo failed argument. It's permitted to exist just because, and you are permitted to ignore it.
In the world of Tamriel, I can see having like all different characters, gay, lesbian even like a tomboy or "non-binary" i don't know whether the new companion is a girl or boy, but what doesn't make sense like at all is saying the world "non-binary" or they/them pronouns, like these all things they are new in the real world, seeing it in like a mid-evil fantasy setting just does not fit at all. Yeah, Vivec is a hermaphrodite because he actually is, based on his sex but all this gender pronoun stuff doesn't fit at all.
@@grizzlymint6792 Absolutely, its bringing our world in Tamriel which make 0 sense. Binarity isn't even a thing in the elder scrolls, like why bring sociopolitical matter from OUR world to a world that won't even use that word in the first place.
I've done three quests for the character so far. Only one character used the they/them pronouns. The first time was whatever, but on the third quest, it gets a little ridiculous. The character refers to the companion as they and their four times in the same sentence. In my opinion, it was very poor dialog. It was like the developers wanted a pat on the back. Pronouns are a modern concept and ruin the setting, in my opinion.
in what way does using they/them multiple times in a sentence make for poor writing? if the sentence were re-written using she/her or he/him instead would the sentence still be bad? and you mention that only once characters uses they/them, are there others that don't?
@Techy93 the sentence went something like this. "They put their blood, their magic, their hard work into this." It feels like the developers are emphasizing rather than having interesting talking points. There are so many more interesting things about the character that are never brought into the spotlight like this. I hate when everything gets called "woke" rather than real criticism, but this feels like a check box rather than a character. You're more than welcome to disagree with me.
Well said, this was my issue as well. There were a few lines talking about 'they' (Tanlorin) and 'they' (a group of people in an organization) in the same sentence. Hard to understand narrativily. I'm not here to artificially play support Tanlorin and her confusion.
@@Wraithbane_Gaming that's a totally normal way of writing to add emphasis to each thing being listed. Let's be real. You're just angry about the "they/them" and wouldn't have a single problem if the same sentence used binary pronouns.
We'll see how bad this new companion is, when ESO try to sell it to the player base. ATM both companions can be accessed through ESO+ for free. But when that goes, I can bet the Necro will out sell the Woke. So if anyone hates this kind of thing, just don't buy it, because money speaks louder than words...
honeslty this character did not need to exist, she's not that big of an issue more so a symptom of an issue in the overall gaming industry when it comes to mediocre releases and performance and prioritizing the wrong things
Why is ZoS injecting real world social/political issues into a fictional universe. The fictional universe was designed to entertain and escape the player from the real world. Having a non binary character inside the elder scrolls online doesn't make the game any better or any worse, it just breaks immersion because now I remember that I'm playing a game that is infused with real world politics.
The fact that they needed a nonbinary voice ACTOR to PLAY the part of a nonbinary character says it all. In true ZOS/ESO fashion they've pandered to identity ideologists 8 years too late. How many elves did they hire to voice their elf characters?
Well, the big difference is that elves and all the other Elder scroll races dont exist IRL... Whereas non-binary people do. If they did im sure zos would have used them for authenticity in voice acting. How hard is that to understand?
@xgronox there is no discernible difference in nonbiary you poor thing. They sound just like "normal" people. They're voice actors, it's their job to act.
So? Its about authenticity. lived experiences can far outweigh what a voice actor can bring to the table when it comes to authenticity. Its like asking some rich white dude to voice and act like someone from the hood. They may be able to get the mannerisms down, but thats superficial. Have you actually played it or heard the character at all?

I want to like her, because her personality is chill, but the quest dialog surrounding her is very confusing because it swaps between using they/them for her, Tanlorin, and they/them for the evil organization of people. This all happens in the same sentence. I get that crazy things happen in the elder Scrolls, but I do think there's a line between narrative devices/story threads and this, where we the players are brow beat into accepting this garbage. The player is never even given the option to 'misgender' her, invoking her dislike, for RP reasons. You should be able to choose to be an indecent person.
@praiselinny exactly the brow beating I'm talking about. Tanlorin and her confusion don't own my language. Voiced by a biological female, has a female character model, has the female coded underwear, is a female. Singular, she/her.
@@praiselinny non-binary is a trauma induced pipe dream. The idea and concept sure do exist but it does not exist in our reality. It just doesn't. Fight it all you want but that energy would be better spent healing yourself.
I think that there is MANY issues in the game right now and the thing that bother me is the fact that they are pushing an agenda instead of adressing the said issues. Wether we want it or not, WOKE agenda is really a thing, and if in the surface this is only a ""minor"" problem, deep in the company this is another story. Often, the surging of this agenda in media is the direct consequence of the internal politics of the company that prefer focus it's attention of inclusivity rather than on quality in storytelling or gameplay. So YES this is a bigger issue we have than what it seems to be. We already know that there always have been gay, lesbians or trans characters in ESO but it was made in a fitting way, not with pronouns BS and other immersion breaking sh*t. The fact that it needs to be a post on a forum to learn the concept of "Hulkynd" is just an exemple of a job not done on the part of ZOS.
A focus on diversity exists within great and horrible media, same as media with a lack of diversity. There is no connection between "wokeness" and media quality, it's just that weirdos like you only hyper focus on identity in media when that media isn't very good.
@@baccusolypus234 people only have a 2 day memory at best. Wasn't there a summer set character that was shown as a man but actually a female. It was a great quest line
@@baccusolypus234 At the very least her quest there was well-written and I honestly didn't expect that twist. It worked. Unlike some other stories they put out later.
What's next? A MAP companion that will have a long quest line explaining how they're simply misunderstood? Done with every game to force these degenerate things in to push their narrative.
My solution was easy, I am never going to activate or use that companion. Problem solved , I play games to escape the real world bullshit so have no intention of any potential npc dialogue trying to lecture me on proper pro-nouns. I have no issue with any of this in the game as long as I have the choice to not have it shoved down my throat. Live and let live.
This is awful. As a current player (albeit on consol) this shit needs to be nipped in the bud. You can convey the concept of "non binary" without stating, "I"m non-binary look at me, I'm special." The daedric princes are the best example of gender ambiguity. And thats because they essentially appear how they are perceived. Having charaters back story with identity politics as part of their backstory is not only pandering (and its only for corporate brownie points - i.e. funding) but its also incredibly fucking lazy. That's the biggest issue that I and many other gamers have with this DEI pandering bullshit. Nobody cares if you write a character with a great background with aspects that stick out "from the norm." But when you start inserting writing modern dei rhetoric in a fantasy setting, it completely deauthenticates the experience.
In addition to this, there are Lgbtq+ characters littered throughout tamriel. And most of them are written MUCH better than this. So no one has an issue there.
“This shit needs to be nipped in the bud” Too late The bud was in Morrowind If LGBTQ+ content wasn’t an issue then, it’s not now Or do you honestly expect me to believe a nonbinary person is less believable than a magic tree causing lizard people to change sexes?
@@IntelligentFlame Why is this always the go to response when someone makes a genuine criticism? You have nothing to actually refute it so you fall back on "don't like it, don't buy it". We've seen how that went with games like Concord, etc.
Okay I’m just gonna say it. In the words of Barbas: “Skyrim is now home to giant flying lizards and two legged cat men, but you’re suprised by me?” Seriously idgaf. If the developers didn’t even mention anything about Tanlirin being non binary I wouldn’t have even noticed. They don’t make it known in game, they don’t make it their personality, it’s just occurring. Who cares? It took me two years to realize Isabel was gay. If you are really cancelling g your subscription bc of this, find me on PCNA and give me your stuff

i'm fine with wokeness or whatnot, but what i'm not fine is that my friend was three day automatically suspended yesterday for casually using a slur as a joke in our private party with me which i surely did not report and no one else saw, and then zos telling him that the ban will stay cause they don't tolerate bad language even in private spaces. that was the fastest uninstall in my life gg dead game
I think the issue is that this is a money grab from ZOS. They don't care about these demographics outside getting money. Elder Scrolls has always had LGBTQ characters and lore. But it was never something they used for marketing. If the character is non binary, fine but sell me on the characters' story. And yes, it is lore breaking. Because shouting it from the roof top as main point was never done and was never the focus of any story or any character. For the same reason they won't create a story and character focused on their straightness as the main point. I don't see any reason why they should do that for a non binary character or gay character. To me, ZOS is losing players, and this sad attempt at pandering to me reinforces shit attempt at getting more players. Never think I would see the day were i que for my undaunted dailies as a tank wait almost an hour to find a team.
so, just like every other case of pandering to a group, but now its non-binary so boo hoo. Btw, they had gay marriage in Skyrim over a decade ago and people whined about it - so no, this is not new, and neither are the easily triggered babies complaining.
I just choose to totally ignore all the woke $hit in the game. I play to relax and have fun, they can push their woke crap all they want but I think it is costing them young customers whose parents won't let them play because of it.
It is wrong to affirm and encourage blatantly, provably false and harmful beliefs. It is wrong to tell people that self injury is good and righteous and brave. It is wrong to tell people they can ignore and completely tune out reality and live in a world of make believe. It harms people to coddle and hide them from truth. Truth is not a god to be worshiped, and truth is not a demon to be feared. It simply is.
It's not provably false or harmful. Science is and has demonstrated that there are legitimate scientific bases for gender and sex existing on a spectrum. The binary has only been widely accepted because it has been artificially enforced throughout history as a form of social control through creating a supposed "normal" which people have to conform to to be accepted by society. Transgender people have existed across many cultures throughout history. The binary is based on only a superficial understanding of biology.
ESO lost me a while back but not for being 'woke'. I haven't played through the character story arc (as I'm sure 90% of the people who comment on 'woke shit' haven't) but, having spent 40+ years on this earth wondering why I was failing the social norms of being a woman whilst having no desire to be referred to as a man, I've spent most of my adult life a confused mess. Having a term that actually describes me has become incredibly important and seeing that represented in games, and portrayed by an actor who feels the same, is both validating and liberating. Maybe one day 'woke' won't be so derogatory. Until then, I'll enjoy my fantasy games with their fantasy acceptance
I just played with Tanlorin in ESO and got her approval high enough to do her companion quest and I must say, she isn't that terrible. She doesn't have any dialogues that gives a lecture about why she's a lesbian. In fact she never really told anyone she's a lesbian. I don't get it, ESO has another companion who is a lesbian, Isobel, but she was well received by the audience. ESO has always had lesbian characters, I don't know why people are making a big fuss about it. Usually, those who are complaining are people who never played the game or just vloggers doing culture war contents.
People are fussing over this because zos devs clearly wants representation for "modern audiences" rather than fixing their broken game. Performance issues, Combat bug still exists, sets from an bygone era still in dustbin rather than getting revamp and overland content still so lackluster and dumb af. And last but not least pvp no update to cyrodiil other than bg.... No one would bat an eye if they made everyone gay or whatever abcdefg bs had their actually fixed all their issues.
@@ХристоМартунковграфЛозенски tolerate what? What is there even to tolerate? Just deal with it and move on. It is like people still calling Russia the Soviet Union, because that is what it has been called their whole lives. Well, it changed. Get over it.
@@jasonchui111 that is a nonsensical argument though. The character writing would have been there regardless, so it cost them absolutely nothing in time or resources to make a companion intergender. If you were right, they would have raged against the other companion as well, indeed making more companions at all, instead of fixing bugs. But that was not the case, now was it.
Don't care about the nonbinary thing. To me, it's a nonissue in a time when we're getting shitty Battlegrounds in-game while facing a growing risk of WWIII irl. From my point of view, I got two new companions for no additional cost, simply because I don't want to play without a bottomless craft bag. That ain't bad.
Oh no, there’s one non binary character among the hundreds of characters in the game. It’s such a huge part of this gigantic world and now the game is ruined.😱😱😱 Imagine being that upset about nothing.
The "Wokeness" of this game is not the issue at all. It is beginning to get a bit tiring everyone trying to justify expressive content as being a negative thing, and a bit sad really, more so than whatever "negative" character traits people may possess. The issue is how much of a cash-grabbing ass backward industry gaming has become. Differences in the anatomy and nature of life is absolutely completely normal. What isn't is the unnatural soul-sucking, wallet draining parasitic perception of life that is going on. Not dudes sucking dicks or girls wanting to be boys or vice versa. This is something that has existed for as long as humans have and guess what, we aren't the only creatures on the planet to have done these things. Other creatures preying upon them purely for a consumptive means other than survival is where the issue lies.
I'm cp 2700 and 10k hours of ESO, got to say, I'm giving a shit to ESO lore and PVE, why? Because it got lazzy and boring. The woke stuff always existed in ESO (ex: almost 98% of the streamers are hardcore woke, same with comunity managers and lore players), not a problem if done right, the real issue is that they are doing a crap job. What am I still doing in ESO? Dont want to start a new MMO (there wasnt one that got me interested) and i play the PVP part (no woke crap, just the good old toxic/fun/stressing shit load ahahahah).
Let me put it this way. I played WOW a dozen years but cancelled both my subs when the writing became too WOKE. I started ESO during the anniversary event. I did not buy Gold Road because I have so much content yet to do. Thus I do not have the two newest companions. If ESO goes too WOKE then I am out of here. I have another game or two in mind that I will immediately transfer to instead. WOKE should not be a problem for me in ESO anytime soon as I still have so much older content to pursue.
Considering the amount of Russian players on the European server, I was wondering what they thought about that character. Probably most of them dislike her, and are right to do so. You guys must be laughing out constantly at the sad obsessions the West has...
@zombiejesus7445 I completely agree. There are games that are woke. Just because it has something like this doesn't mean the whole game is. Dustborn was woke. This is a check box.
I don't care if they're binary, gay, lesbian, tall, or short. I only care if you are shoving your agenda down our throats. If it's part of the story the so be it.
as a gay man myself i "think" i get where you are coming from. however i always internally cringe when straight people use the term "shoved down out throats", because there is no straight community consenses on what that actually entails. and a lot of times in my experience, straight people saying they dont want our identities or stories "shoved down their throats" is really just code for them saying "i dont want to see or interact with this thing EVER". those same people will call two men walking down the street minding their own business and holding hands "shoving it down their throats".hell in the past ive being asked about a wife or girlfriend, and when i corrected them and said "i dont have one" its usually followed with "well why not?" and ill say "cuz im not into women" and then a lot of times it suddenly became "wow you're really shoving that in my face"...i mean, really? was i supposed to just lie and say i had a wife just so that person didnt feel uncomfortable with my confession? i understand straight people dont want to be bombared with lgbt issues and stories 24/7 for various reasons...but the unfortunate truth you learn as an lgbt person is that a lot of times "dont shove it down my throat" is really just code for "dont ever show it to me or mention it around me EVER AGAIN" basically saying they dont care if we exist as long as they dont have to be REMINDED that we exist, and im sorry but that just isnt possible. (btw not implying any of this was you, just going down my thought train out loud)
Someone being proud of who they aren't is "being shoved down your throat." It's homophobia with a slim veil that fools literally nobody. A character in a videogame being gay isn't an "agenda," you just hate seeing gay/trans characters. People fear what they can't understand, so instead of learning people just give in to the fear and turn it into hate.
the op is 10000% means "I dont care, but keep it hidden from me" its not new, and the words change only slightly so that perhaps someone will go along with bigotry a bit easier

I decided to give it a try, after all ESO plus get it free so why not, I'm not that far to give a full review but after completing the starter quest for each , I've decided to lvl up Tanlorin first as I hear great things about Zerith. my thoughts on Zerith starter quest: BAM right out the gate we got mystery, intrigue, cool design, cool dialogue, who is this man, azura chuked him to nirn... woah lets see where it goes. it stays consistent through out. the adventuring dialogue is not fully explored yet but so far it felt like a genuine TES character. Tanlorin starter quest: Found on the side of the road, mild curiosity as to who gotem in that state, talks about kissing in the most cringy way, 0 charisma roll type of dialogue, and like you said we've seen some before, Jakar and Naryu particularly , but there is a difference the way its scripted, directed. I'm not a fan of the hair, the style and dye combo is really trying to look a Starbucks drink than an elder scrolls character, and whatever shiny material is on it I'm not a fan of. overall first impressions the design is out of place, but then we go to the hideout to look for Hyacinth, and i was like...there it is, there is some design, library in a hideout, books, inventions, work on dwemer parts, a dwemer balista, there was the mystery, But it wasn't around Tanlorin, suddenly Tanlorin became a side character in their own story. Hyacinth took the show for me, after rescuing him, all i wished for was to swap their places. because he felt 100% TESO vibes. and the dwemer vibes matched with me so there is some bias there i will admit. Adventuring with Tanlorin: again it feels like the dialogues are out of teso, a bit 4th wall breaking with the rune stone harvesting comment ( which is actually a valid question) , it feel like they were written as a juvenile character which works like a bit with Ember, but its always coming off as if Tanlorin is someone from IRL. again I'm not far enough in either of them so maybe it fixes itself. What i would change in Tanlorin story and design: They are from the Shivering Isles, or any Daedric realm to run in theme with the other companion, its an immediate intrigue, with Shivering isles we can then compensate on the design, keeping it relatively close to how it is now, we can continue the narrative of them being an outcast from Aldmer society, perhaps the parents made a pact with Sheogorath of all things to take them ( he turned the parents to cheese rolls immidiedtely after for comical effect) . and now they made it back to nirn, met Hyacinth, became part of the group they are in and we continue where we left off at the starter quest. next the dialogue: with this origin in mind we can maybe play around with 2 things now in their voice and dialogue: Aldmeri mannerisms mixed with Madness of surviving the shivering isles as a non resident. then their dialogues need to be written more to TESO world. there were so many instances i forget that I'm having a dialogue with an Aldmer, it was almost veering to woodelf, maybe would have been better as a woodelf. and more subtle 4th wall breaks. next: Stand alone Hyacinth companion. please and thank you :P anyway i still gotta up Tanlorings rapport and level so ill probably change my mind about the story as we go along.
If they hadn’t advertised tanlorin as trans everything would’ve been fine. Had they done with tanlorin with what they did with alchemy they probably would’ve been a top choice for a companion. Everything else including the story is fine.
It's not game-breaking. I never saw anyone in the chat complaining about Tanlorin except for the fact that it is a crown store item. They worry Zos may release the class-themed skill styles in the crown store or even crown crate if the companion sells well.
Hmm,,, so Tanlorin is transexual? Now I know why she/he is best companion in melee combAT ;-P. There is different problem with Tanlorin, ZOS make it good dd companion and companion dps is so low, that u need them only to clear trash faster in overlands. Yet Tanlorin dislikes to visit some places,or harvest psijic portals makes u dont want to take it on your journeys. Personally I unlock it only on few characters made for farming exp,or public dungeons

But I find her,him ,it ,they .them (Sorry I dont realy understand the correct pronoun ) quite comparabel to the other campanion's .Maybe I'm just at the age that I have learnd to except people for what they are and to be honest it makes no difference to the way I live my own life or play the game .If you have a problem with people that dont alighn to your standards then you must have a very difficult life in the real world as well as in ESO
Apex Legends has EVERYTHING as far gender identity, sexuality etc go. 99.9% of the player base either have no idea it's there or simply just dont care. The only people who pay attention to that stuff is people who enjoy lore, and there is no problem catering to said people.
So gender/sex diversity is ok as long as most people can easily overlook the fact that it exists? Yeah that's what we need. Digital don't ask don't tell. 🙄
There's literally elfs, lizzard ppl and cat ppl , but ppl draw the line with a non binary character. Who cares it's a game and still a good one. There's still plenty of other characters to use.
Honestly i find Tan fantastic as a character…ya does some of the dialogue throw me off, but it’s not very crazy in the grand scheme of ES things. I will say the quest lines are getting egregiously long and boring though.
I think that people scrutinize Tanlorin's story more because they are non binary, The story was fine, the passive is really good and the personality is great.
What Snowflakes. Buhuu just don't take part in it, its a companion. Just outrage bait based on hate and anger so sick of it all. If i don't like something i just simply don't do it. Talk about not understand the setting at all. *shrugs*
"Just don't take part in it", until the entire mainstream Western entertainment is tainted by this crap. What happened to Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Terminator, the MCU, Warhammer 40k, LOTR, Dr. Who, Masters of the Universe, Dragon Age, WoW or Netflix, among others?
Nah man. This game isn't woke. Having a few "woke" stuff in the game is fine.. cuz some people would really like to have that companion and that's ok. As long as they keep pumping the great narratives and stories plus fun content they've always been.. it's ok. THIS GAME AIN'T WOKE! I play since day one. This game doesn't follow DEI.. not yet at least.
lmao they autoban players for bad words said in private spaces now. i don't mind gay and trans characters in fact i support the diversity, but increasing policing of what u say in private spaces is a byproduct of wokeness
They are free with eso plus though
@@merkos8722 Yes, anyone can buy one month of sub which costs exactly as 1500 crowns and unlock these companions for free.
Boycotted the companion will never get now.
I quit the game because of this. I’m not giving more of my time and money to ZOS after this.
"Non binary characters are the least wild thing in elder scrolls lore." 😂 that gave me a good laugh, so true
Imho eso always did these characters well.
I so second this. Alas, people nowadays jump to bad conclusions real quick.
Exactly
Everyone also seems to forget that trans Argonians exist too
Nords getting down with Khajiit to keep warm during the cold Skyrim nights.
argonians literally change their gender
Let me put it into words that these people cant seem to say... Its not the character that upsets people. I mean there is gay characters, lesbian characters and Vivec exists LOL and no one has every complained about them. Its the INTENTION! We all know ZOS didnt just "put it there"
exactly my thoughts
All the other companions have an archetype, Mirri as a sympathetic treasure hunter, Isobel aspiring knight, Azandar as the esoteric scholar, and so on. But the selling point advertised for Tanlorin is "gender confused." this is "their" archetype. Smh
I happen to be gay, and I'm so sick of this shit honestly.
ESO is the wokest game in town. The thing that annoys me about it is the cancel culture and "safe spaces" in PvP
i wouldn't mind wokeness if it didn't come bundled up with extreme censorship they now do in private chats and auto ban ppl for bad lango jokes among friends
Companies just want your money.
@@davidmonaghan1896 zerith is cool because he is a Necro
Nice work ZOS. I have one more reason to save money and not to come back to this game.
I want law dog in ESO
🤡
The issue isn’t binary or non binary, it’s that it doesn’t serve the narrative evolution of the character. Vivec lore makes sense when you read the lessons of vivec. They didn’t have to point that out, put ugly ass spaghetti purple hair and caricatural voice acting. It bring nothing to the table but virtue signaling for Zos.
Yup
@@Techy93because only people with a mental disease talk like that 😂
@@Wraithbane_Gaming that's a totally normal way of writing to add emphasis to each thing being listed.

Well, the big difference is that elves and all the other Elder scroll races dont exist IRL... Whereas non-binary people do. If they did im sure zos would have used them for authenticity in voice acting.

*they/them
@praiselinny exactly the brow beating I'm talking about. Tanlorin and her confusion don't own my language. Voiced by a biological female, has a female character model, has the female coded underwear, is a female. Singular, she/her.
Is it really indecent to be truthful? I find it far worse to lie so blatantly and with such ill intent.

Don't like it? Don't use the companion or play the quest. Not everything is made for you. Womp womp.

NB people exist != wokeism
It's wrong to hate people just because of your own insecurities. Also, don't gossip.

What does this new companion identity as a frost staff, a wayshrine or maybe IT identifies as elemental essence!!!
Yes but now it is an INTERGENDER people. And that means SUPER WOKE!!! At least if you ask the rabid bigots. ;-)
Perhaps because people were only able to tolerate so much before the proverbial straw broke the camel's back?
People are fussing over this because zos devs clearly wants representation for "modern audiences" rather than fixing their broken game.

Someone being proud of who they aren't is "being shoved down your throat."
It's homophobia with a slim veil that fools literally nobody.
A character in a videogame being gay isn't an "agenda," you just hate seeing gay/trans characters.
People fear what they can't understand, so instead of learning people just give in to the fear and turn it into hate.
the op is 10000% means "I dont care, but keep it hidden from me" its not new, and the words change only slightly so that perhaps someone will go along with bigotry a bit easier
love how your second sentence goes completely against the first one.
It’s literally just a game i may get annoyed with staff Eso has done but not staff like Lesbian Non Binary or that and i’m really getting sick of these people complaining about it clearly y’all haven’t played Eso 😂 like y’all haven’t so stop sick of that word getting used all the time y’all don’t even know the real meaning y’all just stole it and turned it into something it’s not 🙄
What about Isabel? She clearly has more than a friendship going with Aurelia and it’s done well within the narrative.
So a bunch of crybabies are screaming about a nonissue so they can feel relevant. Reminds me of the 70’s and early 80’s when I was told I was going to hell for playing D&D. Just more nonsensical whining and nothing more. Let me know when they grow a pair and do something as simple as control their own feelings.
Gods I can't understand where they get the energy... have they really nothing worse in the world to rage about? Sheesh!
If you remain unconvinced that "she" is actually a "they" or even maybe a "he", then being asked to use someone's preferred pronouns is no different then being asked to lie. Demanding that I lie just to avoid offending someone is worse than censorship, it's compelled speech.
In short, no they don't. They have walked in life getting everything they want with no struggles being handled with kidgloves their whole life that they turned into "special" little snowflakes. Now they ree and cry about everything. 😂
@@VanessaAshleigh we are talking about the anti-woke, right? I see I wasn't clear who I was aiming at.
@@FutureNihilist why would that be a lie? No more than calling a person named Bartholomew Bart or Barry, or Fudger, if they prefer that for some reason. It isn't a lie, it is a simple courtesy.
@@ertymexx Anorexia and Gender dysphoria are both body image delusions. It isn't "courteous" to affirm an anorexic's false body image and the same is true for someone with gender dysphoria. Unlike a name, gender is governed by physical reality (sex). Gender is a word invented so that prudes didn't have to write the word sex on survey forms, they mean the same thing and always have.
these comments are not it man. all the bigots are really coming out of the woodwork here. i personally am not a fan of the character but it has nothing to do with pronouns, i just think they're too full of themselves and think themselves to be hot shit when they're not lol.
i think what people are missing is that the point of inclusion is so people feel included. a character being non-binary just for the sake of it instead of having it be their entire personality is the point. a real person's identity is not just their gender but rather by who they are at their core. are they kind? quick to anger? an artist? a mage? those kinds of things are what defines a person. if everything about the character revolved around gender identity then that's saying that that's all that person is. that's saying they're not a human (or elf) with actual personality, emotions, and morals. which simply is bad writing and character development because real people are more than their gender identity. its not relatable to anyone, even the people who also identify as such.
If you don't want it to use the companion, don't use her. Problem solved
*them
Reminds me of a few more words conservatives like to throw around to mock progressive ideals ; "snowflake" and "triggered" oh the irony
The irony is that it's the liberals who started calling everything they disliked "racist", "sexist", "homophobic", "oppressive" or any other fancy word, and they're the ones who wanted "safe-spaces", and now that Trump has won the presidential election, massively left Twitter so they can got to BlueSky to whine about it without having to justify their weird worldview or argue like actual adults. It's you guys who are all for "tolerance" and "open-mindedness" until someone disagrees with you, then you need your "safe-spaces" to cry in them.
@@ХристоМартунковграфЛозенски not being Tolerant of intolerance isn't the paradox you think it is. Stop making your uneducated beta snowflake ass everyone else's problem.
Every accusation is a confession from your type. 😂
What i would change in Tanlorin story and design: They are from the Shivering Isles, or any Daedric realm to run in theme with the other companion, its an immediate intrigue, with Shivering isles we can then compensate on the design, keeping it relatively close to how it is now, we can continue the narrative of them being an outcast from Aldmer society, perhaps the parents made a pact with Sheogorath of all things to take them ( he turned the parents to cheese rolls immidiedtely after for comical effect) . and now they made it back to nirn, met Hyacinth, became part of the group they are in and we continue where we left off at the starter quest. next the dialogue: with this origin in mind we can maybe play around with 2 things now in their voice and dialogue: Aldmeri mannerisms mixed with Madness of surviving the shivering isles as a non resident. then their dialogues need to be written more to TESO world. there were so many instances i forget that I'm having a dialogue with an Aldmer, it was almost veering to woodelf, maybe would have been better as a woodelf. and more subtle 4th wall breaks.
next: Stand alone Hyacinth companion. please and thank you :P
anyway i still gotta up Tanlorings rapport and level so ill probably change my mind about the story as we go along.
i saw some of that list and they say bayonetta is ok to play 😹
If they hadn’t advertised tanlorin as trans everything would’ve been fine. Had they done with tanlorin with what they did with alchemy they probably would’ve been a top choice for a companion. Everything else including the story is fine.
Zerith is frikkin awesome.
First world problems... God I love the western world
people need to get a grip shits not that serious
These White Conservative Christians, often prone to dramatic complaining, might find solace in like-minded companions preaching Christianity within the fictional world of Tamriel. This imagined scenario reflects a specific demographic-primarily White Conservative Republican males from the United States-who could feel at home spreading their beliefs in a fantasy setting.
It's not only Whites, though. Wokies like to pretend non-White men doesn't exist to try to make the normal side look smaller.
These people don't seem to know much about Elder Scrolls but they do like to make money off of rage. Molag Bal and Vivec's love story would make them cry. 😂
If Tanlorin was a rubbish companion , Then I would understand to a certian extent the criticism.
I will say the quest lines are getting egregiously long and boring though.
bro people crying over a character gender its such a snowflake thing omg xD
Lol if he thinks this is crazy someone show him the riften zone chat on a Friday night lol.
I hate woke shit, but honestly, this doesn't bother me one bit. It's not like eso is dustborne or dragon age.
I think that people scrutinize Tanlorin's story more because they are non binary, The story was fine, the passive is really good and the personality is great.
eh they're a bit too hyper at times, I prefer my companions more lowkey like Sharp or Zerith. They also must like cheese....looking at you bastian...
If anything all Elves are gender fluid or always has had many characters that are .
