  • Mooji - Advaita Vedanta Master - takes a unique approach to the question: How to trust yourself.
I also uploaded an Adyashanti video some time ago where he talked about the same topic. However, Adyashanti took a different approach to the same question:

In this video Advaita Master Mooji speaks about self-trust. According to him the problem is not that we don't have trust or faith in ourselves, but that we don't recognize that self-trust or self-doubt is something that comes and goes. But the witness of it, which is our true nature as consciousness / awareness, is not touched by our doubts.
This video will help you to learn
    - how to have real faith in yourself
    - how to deal with self-doubt
    - how to eliminate self-doubt
    - nonduality teachers point of view on self-trust
    - Mooji's approach to self-enquiry
Mooji (born Anthony Paul Moo-Young) is a spiritual teacher / nonduality teacher, originally from Jamaica. Mooji is a disciple of the renowned Advaita master Papaji, who himself was a devotee of the advaita and non-dual master Ramana Maharshi. Mooji shares self-inquiry, directing his students to the non-dual Self by encouraging them to question who or what they are at the deepest level. One well known exercise is to identify the natural feeling 'I am' or 'I exist' and staying with this for 5 to 7 minutes at a time. Another is to come to the recognition that everything (thoughts, emotions, sensations) can be perceived, and then inquiring, "Can the perceiver itself be perceived?

Alan Watts made a similar observation that it's illogical to think oneself untrustworthy. If I think I'm untrustworthy, then I can't trust my own assessment that I can't trust myself. If I persist in such a belief, it proves that I do, in fact, trust my own assessment of myself!

    ****Notes****
    “I dont trust myself”
What does it mean not to trust yourself?
Do not trust your mind, it says the most inappropriate things
Who is left not to be trusted?
The untrustworthy and the untrusting self are both seen by.. an idea of yourself you’re holding onto, believing into at the moment
I dont trust my self is a thought you choose to believe or reject
If you chose to believe this thought, it means you’re dear before this thought
You were not feeling untrusting to yourself previously, then the thought comes and suddenly you dont trust yourself, because it is believed
If you believe in something it becomes your experience
Isnt it just a thought? Is it just a habitual feeling?
**All these are just thoughts, they have no power, a thought can not believe in it self, it can not think itself**
**It becomes a potential, probability only through contact**
A thought arising by itself by any claimant, whose thought is it?
A lot of thoughts come, you dont even remember them, you dont connect with them
You only connect with the ones you have had a relationship in the past and had a feeling with them, good or bar
We only have to transcend those thoughts we’ve come in a relationship with
They have caught onto you and give you a sense of being a person, it will create a sense of struggle
You give a thought its meaning and its power
One can joggle with 2-3 thoughts, some with 5.. but 50 is too much
You who see the thought or the feeling.. you are what? Can you be trusted?
You who see the untrustworthy sense of self.. can it be trusted? Does it care about trustworthiness?

On this specific subject I loved more the way Mooji said it... but both the teachers are my favourites. Sometimes the way one explains is more understandable. Thankyou for sharing it with us.. :)

It seems Mooji says something similar each time about being that which watches the thoughts. Or at least many times from what I've seen. That must be his teaching regardless of the question. Very consistent!

You don't trust people you trust your judgement
Before you loan money you make judgments and trust them
REALIZE this truth and nobody will ever have the power to let you down

I dont trust my self as a judgment makes you trustworthy, because you use a higher level of standards about yourself while saying it. :)

I'm more drawn to mooji in general, thank you. Adya's more articulate perhaps but he makes self-realisation sound too disorienting, too destructive, esp when trusting 'my' self is such a concern for seekers of truth.

Mooji said at 8:35 “you who see a thought or feeling, you are what?” I think this is the human mind, its observation, attention, experience, you simply know you ego-personality, you are talking about yourself. A person talks about person. Mooji said again “can you be trusted” “you who see this untrustworthiness….and that, what perceive that, it"s holding on it or give any value this untrustworthiness? that, what is that one …stay in that place”. I think that the witnessing or observing is not the function of the Self. This is a old Mooji”s trick talking about the Self behind everything like a witness, to make it more mysteries, Mooji is not conscious of the Self, he does not know, what he is talking about, he only teaches it.

may be that masters dont answer a-the question,
may be that they answer the one who asks it...

Sejus Mai Those like Mooji will mention that they should not be seen as your master or guru. They check the hubris that comes attached to such sentiments and detach from it, but certainly to most dwelling on the human condition are not ready to realise selfhood and so elevate the messenger to holy levels. That said, Mooji has a wonderful expression and serenity about him, and seems to have mastered his craft more than many. In fact, to seek is to show that you still have something to look for.

    • @sejusmai7312
      @sejusmai7312 7 ปีที่แล้ว

Aurelio Yuga i would not call him master no, i may consider him a master OF karate but still I would not call him master. What is Mooji a master of exactly? Genuine question and not being trolly or argumentative.

    • @AurelioYuga
      @AurelioYuga  7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

Ok, I understand what you're saying.
He practiced self-enquiry and nondual teachings and realized his true nature. He is living that what is he is talking about (wisdom and love). That is why I would call him a Master. Just my opinion.
But, of course, feel free to call him in whatever way that resonates with you.
