Jim, It's amazing to see someone take real pride in their work. Normally someone would've just tightened down the positive cable and called it a day. You really go above and beyond and it shows.
Nice that you were able to save the customer a lot of money there. Good usage Jim of the two pieces of equipment to analyze the system. And the baking soda does a good job of getting all that acid away. Keep up the good work!
Even though those old toaster style battery testers are bulky, slower, with no printout, I prefer them over the newer style AC conductance testers. Nice demo!
Great Video Jim, that reminds me about a month ago. I had to work on a garbage packer at my job that wouldn't take a jump or even start. The two golden wrenches on first shift who went and looked at it said it has a electrical problem. So they didn't bother trying to fixed it. They decided it was second shifts problem because we're the packer shift. I shit you not I ' went out in the back yard were we park these magget wagons. LOL I found the negative battery cable completely disconnected. I reinstalled the ground cable on the battery and I hit the ignition switch and the truck started up . checked all the rest of the connections at the battery and checked the charging system. simple ten minute fix. lol I always start with the basics in troubleshooting.
great video jim. keep "em coming . my 06 dakota makes the same ticking noise win you start it in the morning , then it runs like a new engine, must be a 3.7 thing ..lol. thanks for the vids
Thanks Jim. Same prob with my son's Intrigue. Auto Zone battery replacement/installation- 2 weeks later car is dying, losing power. Sent him back to Auto zone, they test battery on car - all is good. car leaves him dead in a parking lot- gets a jump, car leaves him stranded again - AAA jumps him. He finally gets car to me, in 2 seconds I see the ground cable not tightened. So frustrating that 3 people touched that battery and no one saw a loose cable!
+Corky C Sometimes the people working at Auto zone ,Pep boys or Advanced could not find there own rear end if it was not attached .Lol Thank you for your input.
I have an 81 gmc k25 no start fuse box gets no power stator not engaging. Battery terminals are good. I can turn on head light but no start. It had no turn lights when i bought it wired up lights when i turned it to the right it started smokin
Very good 👍 👏 👌. The only thing I'm wondering is did you charhe the customer diagnostic time while you were making the video and using both scan tools? You should have simulated that problem off the clock to make the video your customer just paid for. To me once you saw that the problem was the loose wire you should have cleaned the terminal tightened it up along with the loose nut that you found in the 90 degree connector and then did the simple test. That would have been a 30 minute job at most, but then again your wearing that NAPA cap so why not let the clock run and charge the customer right? How much was the cost for that extra long service, and I like how you gave your customer that idea of the boat load of cost. When in fact that simple service at a reputable shop would have at the most been $30 after all all you needed to do was tighten a nut. So again I ask what was the cost to your customer??? I bet we will all sleep good tonight listening to the crickets.
I have an 05 envoy that cranks but doesn't start unless I give it gas then the rpm goes up a bit with revving from the engine. I changed the plugs and replaced the coils. its doing the same thing but now sometimes It wont crank/start or the dashboard lights come on. Is it safe to say the battery is crap or is it the alternator?
hi Jim, I changed out bad alternator on my 2004 PT cruiser. changed battery, went to start, nothing, no crank, no clicking, no instruments, starter smoked, the wipers are on continuously even on off position, any ideas? I'm taking starter out to check it assuming I'll have to change it now
i had problem with my car kia rondo 2007 i was driving then the car starts loos the power when a push the gas after that i heard a strong noise coming frome the engine it was shaking after that the car stops its does crank or start can you tell me what was the problem thank you
Your going to have to do some diagnostic work .Here is a few videos that may help. th-cam.com/video/gNe8EzJQMCY/w-d-xo.html ,th-cam.com/video/BqLyq2xfT_4/w-d-xo.html ,th-cam.com/video/1L4nB2NdA0U/w-d-xo.html and th-cam.com/video/ecLmYPcWipo/w-d-xo.html .Keep me posted.
Well done, Jim. It makes your day when you almost make a customer do something in their pants. {:-) For what you made on the job you could visit Starbucks but you have the confidence of your customer for being honest.
Check the battery cable to see if it's loose check the wire on the starter to see if it's loose I can't believe you didn't try that first thing of all the customer could have been up and gone
Car no power no lights. Everytime i try to jumpstart the car the lights any everything come on, but as soon take jumper cables of the car dies, no power again..any suggestions?
Yes it sounds like the battery is not charging. You should have the charging system checked. Keep me posted.Thank you for watching . Don't forget to subscribe.
+Bill Long He knew it was the cable as soon as it was done charging. he checked the battery and alternator to assure that the customer didn't have any problems down the line. A thorough mechanic will save you money in the long run.
