Watched her video, watched Mikey’s reaction, maybe another reaction, and I’m just now realizing maybe the backhanded Eevee compliment was because he was afraid of Jaiden’s mother finding out about giving compliments and it was the only way he could commend her battling skills.
John, you absolutely need to play both Coliseum and Gale of Darkness! I never played them growing up either for the same reason but they are just so good! The fact she doesn't say the key feature is that every battle is a double battle in both games, which I get can be polarizing, is just the chef's kiss to me. It forces you to think a little harder in each battle. Especially when shadow Pokemon become a thing and you want to catch them.
The biggest problem with Coliseum and Gale of Darkness is the selection of pokemon you have access to. So many of the pokemon in that game are underpowered Gen 2 pokemon years before they got their good evolutions and a decent moveset.
@@t-vann48 There is actually a reason why colosseum only has gen 2 pokemon and that's because it has the pokemon that were not available in the other gen 3 games so that players could get a complete pokedex.
So about those "inconsistencies" such as characters pointing to the middle of the desert, they are all explained within this game; generally speaking, characters who faced Cipher back in Colosseum have been keeping an eye on their old lab and such - pretty sure that's why Krane made the new snag machine, cuz they knew Cipher was becoming active again 6:49 Damn, that USUM slander! I've always loved those games as some of my favorites, but I suppose it isn't for everyone; I hold BW, HGSS, and USUM as my top 3... though actually, I guess I hold PLA at the top now Either way, that isn't me trying to argue or anytjing, obviously opinions will differ. I love Colosseum and XD to death as well - probably my favorite spinoffs besides PMD Explorers of Sky - so I'm glad to see them get more attention
This is a funny recap but there are so many little details that are missing which causes people to get the wrong idea about the game. I'm so glad you also see that. NPCs are surprisingly competent in both Colosseum and XD. Wish newer gens would take notes.
You should totally play Colosseum and XD: Gale of Darkness! They are really fun and different, and the battles through the game really require more thought and skill than typical, especially when trying to catch the Shadow Pokemon in the middle.
Colosseum and XD are considered by many to be the hardest games that are connected to the main series. You would love them. Maybe stream them after you catch all the shinnies in legends?
While it is difficult to be sure, part of that difficulty comes from a couple sources: 1: *Every* battle is a double battle, a style that most people aren't familiar with 2: Approximately 90% of the fights are mandatory. This point wouldn't be so bad if it weren't for... 3: Rest points are much fewer and further between, often being unavailable until you finish a given -gauntlet- section, and as such healing items being much more valuable.
I love how Jaiden doesn't need to tell us about every pokemon she gets and adds to her team, because she trusts people watching to be able to just see the pokemon she has illustrated alongside her character and know that those are the pokemon she is using. It bothers me how often content creators feel the need to overexplain everything as if the people watching don't have eyes or can't read. :)
I would LOVE to see John with his competitive knowledge go through Colosseum and XD. I struggled even with a guide with Colosseum as a kid, because I was a kid, and it'd be great to see how someone as seasoned as him handles the double battles but also trying to catch the shadow Pokemon. Maybe make a run where he HAS to catch every shadow Pokemon plus Nuzlocke rules?
to give credit to chobin. when he fights you in the groudon, his team is the best it could be. his gyarados? it has no water moves that can be weakened by sunny day, which his sunflora has, alongside solar beam. but the best part? He is using a sun team while cosplaying as a groudon. That is hilarious. well done gamefreak
Gale of Darkness was my first ever Pokémon game, so it was a big surprise when I found a used ruby cartridge at my local GameStop and saw the mainline games were completely different. My favorite games will still always be ranger though and I hope a new one comes out soon.
Snag'em was mostly there as fan service. They were in the first game, the MC blows up their base and steals the Snag Machine from them in the opening cutscene.
Gale of darkness wasn't the first official Pokémon media to present in-universe battle sims; in the OG anime, specifically the episode “school of hard knocks”, the titular school is mentioned to have one.
@6:08 Yes, he’s still alive. “In Honor of” refers to people alive. “In Memory of” refers to people who are no longer living. Hope you can remember the difference.
Several things Jaiden overlooked. 1) the purifying stone only works one shadow pokemon at a time, and you need to lower their shadow gauges individually. Which means you are constantly switching your pokemon throughout the game. One of the downsides of Colosseum really. The machine the lab is making lets you purify multiple pokemon at a time the more pokemon you capture. By the time you reach the halfway mark, you're purifying 9 at a time. 2) Miror B finds any shadow pokemon you might have beaten, allowing you a second chance at snagging them, where in Colosseum its gone forever unless its a boss. 3) you don't need to snag greevil's team all at once. You can go back and snag them one at a time if you want.
Jaiden has a point about Gale of Darkness being overshadowed by Colosseum, but Colosseum has better characters, better plot, cooler character design, better music, and much more Miror B. GIVE THE FUNKY LUDICOLO MAN THE SCREENTIME HE DESERVES!!! And there's no Jovi. That fact alone immediately boosts Colosseum leagues ahead of Gale of Darkness.
Have to agree with all that but 1 of the things I think XD did better was the Shadow Pokemon themselves. I've played both and Shadow Pokemon are so much better done in XD with the movesets, Hyper Mode and the whole Shadow being super effective to everything except Shadow. Also much less hassle purifying them unlike Colloseum.
Fair enough. It does make battling much more interesting and strategic. But, to my knowledge, there's no ghost type that the AI keeps trying to use normal moves on in Gale of Darkness.
