Thanks for the video. Just did it exactly the way you showed. That ECU removal on top of the airbox/filter is a must.
Make sure the battery is fully charged, since 177 models have very poor alternators that are programmed to charge it max 80%
Start car as normal. No screen warning, just MBUX needs awhile to start. Mercedes me app will update status of battery.
One thing you should do is to get the OBD reset for the battery as there is a Ampère counter somewhere in the menu. Getting that done at the dealer

I've just learnt about this so called "smart" alternator.. mor ei read the more dumb it sounds haha. You are right it only charges upto 80% the other 20% will charge when the vehicle is coasting or under braking load.
I was also told by my local dealership the battery does not need to be programed... well that is certainly not correct as you stated it should be registered. I am the process of trying to figure out how to do that with out a dealership or xentry. So far I couldn't find any setting using a Autel Maxi elite scanner. But I was also having trouble communicating with the the front SAM. Hopefully can get this sorted out. It has been a massive pain haha

@@raymondsiu thanks for reaching out, that is a great question! Based off my local Mercedes dealership there was no reset/ or computer relearn needed for the battery replacement. Making it a very DIY friendly job.
The new battery has solved many issues the W177 was having as these cars are so delicate when it comes to proper battery voltage. The bigger battery size should help last longer as well.

@@FullThrottleBHP Merc confirmed this? As if you Battery is low there is a risk your new battery may subsequently overcharge unless you tell the car to refresh the charge value. It could ruin the new battery pretty quickly.

@@mattsmith1051 Yes that is correct on most vehicles. Mercedes dealers local confirmed no Mercedes in my line up AMG W204 R170 SLK X204 and the W177 A class does not require any reset or relearn of the computer charging system. I assume they are correct as I can't see them turning down easy money.

Do I need to register the new battery in system over OBD? Is that required for this car? I drive a W177 A200 and need to replace the battery. Currently it has a 60 Ah one in and would like to upgrade up to 65 Ah, but not sure, if it's ok. I am from Germany and I went to Mercedes Sservice and they wanted up to 900€ for a replacement, which is weird and want to do that by myself, since it's not a rocket science. Any feedback highly appriciated.

@@markdelphi8075 Thank you for reaching out, I appreciate your support and hope you found the episode helpful. Please consider subscribing and leaving a thumbs up on the episode.
      1) Regarding registering the new battery. According to my local dealership they advised me the battery did not need to be registered when replaced. Currently with the cold weather back I am having similar issues of no start when vehicle sits. I reached out to a good friend that is a tech at a different dealer and he advised there is a battery register that needs reset other wise the car may not properly charge the battery leading to early failure. I have not been able to figure out how to do this battery reset using an autel maxisys elite scanner.
2)As you may have noticed in the episode I also upgraded to a larger size battery there is a bit extra room to do so and if you can find the proper battery code to fit I highly recomend it.
3)Mercedes is very expensive to replace the battery. Although it is relatively "simple" it is time consuming as you seen. A lot of steps and pieces to remove on these vehicles. That being said save your money! Follow above and do it your self. The only thing I do recomend is to see if your OBD2 gives you an option for the battery reset. If so please update me how it showed up for you.
Another option would be to see what your dealer would charge for just to register the new battery after you install it, or if they say it needs it or not? I've had a lot of miss information around that part.
I hope this helps, keep me updated how it goes and if you have any other questions be sure to reach out.

@@FullThrottleBHP Thank you very much for your effort giving me such a great answer. I am going to replace the battery by myself. And yes, I am going to register it again once replaced. I watched about 5 Videos like yours and only this guy (th-cam.com/video/FZVL2Y29gYk/w-d-xo.html - in German) does registration after replacement. Currently I do have an ELM237 v2.4 OBD II Adapter, which is most probably not able to register the battery. But, I do have a Xentry software (by Mercedes) on my Laptop (like that guy from video, however I have never used it, yet), but that requires a xentry passthru adapter (J2534 protocol), which I do not have at the moment. But I am going to get it in coming days and use it after replacement.
Btw, I would really love to have any technical information about the car, that tells what's maximum battery capacity (Ah) you can use for a specific vehicle model. It's not only about the room a battery physically fits ins, it's also about electronic system if it's able to take energy from the battery with capacity e.g. 70 Ah so that nothing or no system element will be demange because of higher Ah. That's why I a really careful and need to gather as many as possible information.
Years back it was easy since there weren't so man electronics within vehicles. Modern cars are mostly based on that and it's no so easy to change something without being aware of potential issues you gonna face.
I will keep you updated. Thanks again. You were really helpful.

If I can't drive for a few months, do I need to disconnect the battery to avoid running out of power? Is there any way to disconnect the battery without disassembling the entire mount?

    • @FullThrottleBHP
      @FullThrottleBHP  หลายเดือนก่อน

Thank you for reaching out, I hope you enjoyed the episode and found it helpful. If the car is going to be sitting for a few months it is would be highly advisable to remove the battery terminals from the battery so it does not drain and cause damage to your battery. A better and easeir option would be to purchase a battery maintainer/charger. This unit will keep your battery charged to the proper level when not in use. I use this for 6months or more at a time while my summer vehicle is stored over winter. You can easily connect the terminals to the positive and negative "jumper" posts under the hood saving you the trouble of removing this cover.
