    As a former Cav Scout and current 913A, I recommend a slickster with ar500 for working out. It lives in the gym bag, is always in the truck and provides level 4A protection in case of active shooter. Keep your SAPI Banshee Shellback at home for the apocalypse. Keep your battle belt with your gym bag(med kit, spare mags) . Keep an IFAK 5 mags radio and camelbak on the shellback. Stick to common rounds and platforms. Glock19/17 or Ar15. Both have 22lr conversion kits available which allow you to train cheap and often. Train to fight. Consistency is key. "SCOUTS OUT"

    The more the civilians train the better i feel. Ive trained co workers in the past in cqb. The only thing I recommend on their gear checklist is physical fitness. You are your gear in the fight. Not the other way around.

    Excellent discussion...You said a couple things that resonated with me. 1st, you look for companies that give back. I agree, this is an important aspect. 2nd, what you do/did in the military doesn't mean you are the only ones that can do it domestically (to the same effect). There are some bad ass shooters that have military experience, but that skill was honed outside of the military. Run and know, what you have, but like anything, armor is a tool and each tool has a different application. I prefer subdued armor, I am never looking for a fight. Armor is a force multiplier, but you don't want to invite force to be used against you. You want to live through the encounter. I will hide a long gun in a backpack and carry a pistol with armor/plates under something to be discreet. Wearing a carrier outside your clothing does open you up to an encounter, and you dont have the support of intel or a operations center to provide you intelligence on the battle field. Hell, you could be overwhelmed by a mob and you don't want to invite an encounter in most cases. Something you said that I have considered was the point of sitting outside you kids school and a cop being there. I would be very cautious with engaging a suspect when a cop is already engaging. You might get mistaken for a bad guy and taken out. It happens, sometimes too frequently.

    The crye AVS is made of 500D cordura and stands among the best plate carriers on the market. The difference between 1000d and 500d is about a 20 percent decrease in durability with an 80 percent increase in weight. So it's all a compromise. Just depends on what environments you plan to run your PC in. If I were in a maritime environment with a lot of salt water, jagged edged metals and whatnot to deal with, 1000d would potentially make more sense. A lot of people will be totally fine with 500D.

    Thanks for the video. As a civilian, I've thought about body armor but haven't pulled the trigger. I've always thought if the door gets kicked in, I'm fighting with whatever is on me or immediately at hand. You've given some good insight, thanks.
    I'm rapidly approaching 60 and discovering what my body can do compared to what it used to do. I am also leaning more and more into my Christianity. You mentioned the amount of people that you would actually trust is very low. I've always felt the same way and thought that I was wrong for feeling that way. We are supposed to love everyone is something that I have and would struggle with. I wonder if you could share some insight how you handle managing people and keeping them at certain levels of trust/distance?
    Thanks so much for your videos!

      John, I am right there with you. Soon to be 65. I have BA but for stationary positions. I have steel plates and not ceramic, so it is very heavy. I will not be patrolling with BA. If I have to patrol it will be like FMT talked about, ammo, water and energy bars. Keep stocking Food, water , meds, ammo, tools, comms……. We do the best we can with what we have where we are. There will come a time where we can’t get anything, so what you have is all you will have. But at the end of the day Jesus is our hope no matter what happens.

    I just came across your video. Great info. I’m prior service but I’ve been a civilian for quite a while. I was in before the GWOT so the most we ever had was LBE over a flak vest lol. I just bought the HRT RAC a couple of months ago on the recommendation of John Lovell from Warrior Poet Society. I haven’t been able to go out and train with it as I’m still trying to figure out what I want to do with it and how I want to set it up. I like the idea of being able to swap the placards to a chest rig. Thanks for all the info and everything you’re doing.

    Great vid and chat. Thank you for sharing your wisdom and insight. A few quick questions. What are “crashes”? Flash bangs? What about “IWA”? Finally, it seems the LBAC is more “robust” than the RAC. Is that how you’d define the major difference? You mention 1000D cordura, but it seems both the HRT rigs are 500? Again, many thanks for sharing your expertise to make things simpler for us civvies. God speed and God bless.

      Armor. You can get a solid set up for $500. A pvs14 is going to start at $3000. You will also need training with night optics; remember they work off light, if there’s no light to magnify, it’s useless. You can get an IR light, but that’s even more money. You will also need lots of practice.
      Get some good education from an experienced professional; that would be your best investment.

    Civilians that are training with kit or (Larping) are the majority of people that will ultimately defend the homeland. The civilians are the First Responders While the service men and women are deployed overseas are the QRF.
    The more civilians that train marksmanship and drills, the MORE skilled they will be if or when they join the Military. Contrary to popular belief. Joining as infantry doesn't guarantee they'll be expert shooters. Training as a civilian beforehand can help them gain marksmanship proficiency before Boot camp. Although, i don't know anyone who is patriotic to America willing to join the US military under a Commander and Thief who actively tramples on the US constitution and its people.

    Hey Jason. I have two AR500 Testudo Gen II plate carriers and they are on par with most everything out there other than Crye JPCs at half the price. For Sheep Dogs like myself, they are durable, have good breathability and secure 10x12 plates very well. Good ventilation and they have either the option to run with side straps or a full cummerbund. The only thing that I really don't like and wasn't enough to get me to not buy a second one was that they are stitched in Viet Nam. Just a good quality option at a $200 price point. Most people I find “older” love the 1911. I have e a Bull Armory TAC 4.25” and love it but a 1911 in general is not the most effective gun in my opinion. The trigger is prestine, its machine well, but not my favorite for defense. It will definitely do the trick.
      Most want that extra added safety but I also find that those who want this safety are usually mediocre shooters so the safety factor is a priority for them and that’s ok.

    I've heard supposed experts speaking about running without a handgun so that you can have more space for rifle ammo. What are your thoughts in regards to carrying a handgun during an operation? Is it essential or are they essential only to the mission?

    • @frogmantactical

      A handgun covers a few inches. That’s silly to me. Most likely that’s coming from people who can’t shoot a handgun so what they are really trying to say is, even if I carry a handgun it wouldn’t matter because I can’t hit what I shoot at 😂 #facts.

  • @flyoverkid55

    My 2 cents. I'm of the opinion that the biggest threat American citizens face is civil unrest following a disaster or grid collapse. Most of us will likely not be near the heavier gear we may own. Certainly I'll be moving toward it, that's why I have it.
    I agree, my home defense doesn't include body armor. The bump in the night means I'm behind the curve, every second counts. But I want my gear for adverse circumstances. I make it a point to wear a heavier shirt under my armor, I'm not in Iraq humping on a show of force. I want some cloth between me and the carrier. All armor carriers are uncomfortable, I still want the protection under given conditions.

    The only difference between 500d and 1000d is the thickness of the thread used to make the weave I don't really think it has much to do with durability as much as it does with how soft it feels. People have it in their head that 1000d makes a more durable material when it is actually negligible between the two Beyond puncture and ripping as far as abrasion goes it's literally nylon no matter how thick the Weave is

    • @frogmantactical
      @frogmantactical  ปีที่แล้ว

      If I give you glass that’s 1/4” thick and one that is 1/2” thick, which one is trigger? Most government agencies will not use 500D because it will tear easier. 🙏

    • @WearilyCorrect
      @WearilyCorrect ปีที่แล้ว

      This guy is treating PC thread count like bed sheets lol I haven't seen any advertising for silky smooth plate carriers. Maybe an untapped market😅

    • @calebsone1630
      @calebsone1630 ปีที่แล้ว

      @frogmantactical yeah but tearing and puncturing resistance is totally different from durability from wearing. If something rips your carrier it's going to rip it no matter if it's 1000d or 500d they're talking about ripping at the seams. It's a selling point but it's not a huge one if you understand the material. I get it though something that you want to last and crawl on the ground with having heavy plates and magazines hanging off of it needs to be durable and if 10% more durable is important to you than yeah 1000d is better. The even better stuff is the laminate things that they're coming out with now one of my dude is making plate carriers and chest rigs with some new materials

    Does anyone consider using AI security cameras? Blue Iris 75, Free AI, inexpensive Reolink cams. Yes is only a little help, but it's a full-time watchman, that you pay for on time. Just a suggestion.
    HF NVIS Ham radios will go hundreds of miles and are hard to DF. But setup and take down and the technical skill to use them is just way to hard for the vast majority of people to master. My family does this and practices this, but under combat conditions even with ALE, you had better have a support team already. They are cool though. West Texas to AK with a 130 foot antenna, and 10W, is nice, but that 130 foot of antenna, lol

    Sometimes I wonder. Will armor protect you if God says your number is up? King Ahab tried to protect himself when God told him he was going to die. The next day, a random archer shot an arrow that slipped through the joints in his armor. See 1 Kings 22. David defeated Goliath after turning down Saul's armor. Does armor protect us or God? Just some things to ponder.
