  • This session is called SSSS1 (Specific Strength Speed Session) and is using my method of multiple stimuli with combination of super sets (agonists/antagonist combi) in short training circuits. It is likely to develop not only the maximal and specific strength but also the general conditioning necessary for a young athlete and is also oriented to produce an immediate and more efficient transfer ability of strength into speed. This type of session is very demanding on the body and one has to control the loads and the number of rounds in the training circuits to maintain the dynamic execution of the drills. It is also necessary to allow a sufficient recovery between session of this type. In modern athletics training the combination of drills and the execution modes can become more important than the choice of the drills itself. It can changes completely the adaptation answer of the body , the training effects and the rate of improvement. So it is not enough to pick the "good drills" , one has to build the right combinations and execution modes to get the expected effects.Of course one will need to design several other sessions with other drills combinations to build a training program.     Its obviously to help strengthen your shoulders and chest. Those muscles aren't essential, but are very useful, for pushing and controlling the hammer. Plus hammer takes a ton of upper back strength and its unhealthy to over train back without strengthening your chest.

    Thank you for posting coach!! This is a 90 minute session, with two separate workouts, do you have the athlete do both of the workouts in one workout session? How many times a week does the athlete do this workout? Thank you!
