One of the biggest traits to every successful hammer thrower is the ability to increase speed from turn to turn. So how do you do it? In this video, Primal strength coach and hammer and weight specialist Joe Pascone talks about how you can increase your speed correctly using your technique.

What if you do 4 turns without a toe turn? (Like Vadim devyatoskiy)

Do not actively turn your left side... Ever... Turn your right side (which is what accelerates the ball).

When in the video does it say to actively move the left?

I see what you mean now. I think it's how he's saying it in the video. Not the best use of vocabulary. Knowing how Joe teaches he doesn't teach to turn the left but to push the right and turn ON the left.

Actually my coach always says left side accelerates when the hammer is on the left, the right side accelerates when the hammer is on the right side. In single support you accelerate the body, in double support you accelerate the hammer

Great Vid, can't wait for more. But how do you transition from 3 turns to 4 turns, because I tried it, but I ended up slowing down. Please help!

I understand that this is an old video I am a beginner hammer coach. I noticed that the degrees became less as he was turning from 270 for the first down to 220 for the last of a three turn if he had been doing four would it have gone down to 200 before release?

Honestly man I have no idea. This is an older video from a coach who hasn't worked with me in about 5-6 years. He had his methods but wasn't great on camera so we didn't continue with it.

@@HectorEspinoza-nw9eq In case you are still curious after all this time, I believe for a 4-turn, he wants the first two turns to ground at 270 (I believe covered at 1:25), then 3 at 250, and 4 at 220. I think if the foot were to land further into the ring any sooner, it would send the thrower off to the left of the ring (from the athlete's perspective). But, like the account that posted this vid has said, his terminology/delivery of technique was a bit confusing. If you are still looking for good instructionary hammer videos to strengthen your knowledge and coaching, some channels/videos to check out would be Sean Donnelly (channel), Hammer Masterclass - Tore Gustafsson (video by Throwsireland), and various older film featuring Stewart Togher or camps taught by Koji Murofushi. Hope this helped.
