2 triggers for 2 barrels. One trigger for 1 barrel, 2nd trigger for other barrel. That's as simple as I can put it. Hope that helps. Btw...double barrel shotguns are not as common nowadays, because most use pump shotguns which hold more shells.

Alaskan here, double barrels are cheap, less than $100 bux.... unless you get a fancy one.
they tend to either be cheap, or very expensive..
old shotguns are plentiful. got some by the doors for home defense, one out in barn, one in the shed by the chicken coup.

As an American Citizen/USMC Veteran, I truly enjoy watching folks in other Countries videos on firearms. Also, you (all) have my utmost condolences for not having/enjoying a Second Amendment, too! (Must work on that my good folk! Your Govt. certainly isn't going to hand it to you!) For myself, I hate the word 'Cheap' when it's applied to firearms. A firearm is a lethal tool, and that Olde Saying "You get what you pay for" heavily applies.
There are 'Budget' platforms (Decent, won't cost you a hand or eye types), but they don't last very long. An excellent option is buying a quality 'Used' firearm. Many thousands out there, but you have to know what you're doing/what to look-out for!
If all you do is target shoot, hunt herbivores that will never be a threat to you? Well,,,, o.k...
If you imagine ever having to USE said 'Tool' for your self defense/preservation? Please, save, save, save, and 'Invest' your hard earned monies into a reliable, long/er lived platform that you can have forever (With proper maintenance of course).
    :-)

Most people I know growing up in the country, have at least one shotgun (like these), one rifle (single barrel), and one pistol. The pistol grip on the American gun is that protrusion vaguely in the center of the stock. It’s to wrap your fingers around and have a firmer grip. This helps a lot, especially with a gun that kicks.❤️🤗🐝

Checkering is done using a type of file. It uses a VERY sharp pointed cutter which has teeth cut into it. Think of a pencil for an idea of the shape. The border is laid out then a cutter with a spacer is used to get the details cut into the wood. Then a 2nd cutter is used which is pointier to deepen the cuts. It's time consuming and laborious. Today they press a lot of the checkering into the wood - which isn't as good because if the stock gets wet it can pop the checkering but it is cheaper while keeping the aesthetics and the benefit of grip. There are videos on youtube of how to do it.

Kabir...even at the Federal level, there are hundreds of laws to limit firearms ownership. The most important thing to know is that it is illegal everywhere in the USA to buy or sell any fully automatic firearm...aka a "machine gun"...unless the ATF gets involved and does a DEEP background check on the buyer. So your belief that Americans are free to do what they want depending on the state is definitely not really true.

He was the best with them so that was his assignment for high profile cases. I started with a single barrel hunting in the 90s then graduated to a bolt action shotgun before using a pump. Damascus uses layers of different steels. The look comes out from how they're layered and cut. The problem is that they can delaminate and detonate - which is why it's advised to only use lower powered loads. The sleeking he talks about is when they put a cutter down the bore to remove some of the metal to put a sleeve of modern steel into it which will add strength to the barrels and mitigate the risk of the Damascus.

  • @rodneysisco6364

I hunted ducks for years with an old Remington model10 pump shotgun in 12 gauge made in about 1910 . . It was very heavy but had a very solid feeling pump action , sort of like driving a tractor . I prefer the pump to the automatics that most younger hunters use now because whereas they just blast off 3 rounds without re-aiming between shots , the pump almost requires you to re-aim after each shot because of the pumping action . In the video , he said that the Ithaca kicked harder even though it was the heavier gun . It must have had something to do with the different designs of the stocks , because as a rule a heavier gun kicks LESS than a lighter one .Both guns are quite old because they had Damascus steel barrels . They stopped using Damascus steel for shotgun barrels around 1900 in the USA because the new shells were stronger and Damascus steel is both weaker and more expensive to make

18:29 The pistol grip is in reference to how you hold the gun as well as how the gun is designed to be held. A “grip” in this context is the place where you would hold the gun with your dominant hand. A pistol grip is the name for a grip that sticks vertically out the bottom of a gun, many modern rifles like AK-47s and AR-15s have pistol grips. So when he talked about the American shotgun having a “semi-pistol grip” he’s talking about the bulge that was on the bottom of the stock that would allow for your hands to wrap around the stock in a more natural manner.

  • @davidwillford3119
    @davidwillford3119 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

I don't shoot clays or hunt birds, so I would have no use for a double barrel shotgun. If I did, I would get an over/under rather than a side-by-side configuration. The shotguns I do have are mostly for home defense, so I use pump actions, which hold more than two rounds. (although to be honest, my primary home defense gun is an AR-15 rather than a shotgun.) I might possibly upgrade to a semiautomatic someday, but for now the pumps are fine.
The double trigger layout has one trigger firing the left barrel and the other barrel firing the right barrel. Some double barrel shotguns do have a single trigger mechanism, where the first pull fires one barrel and the second pull fires the second barrel. The dual triggers do allow you to fire both barrels at the same time, but that is a pretty useless "feature."
The Damascus barrels that he is talking about are how the barrels are constructed. It is a method in which strips of steel are welded together and twisted, which results in the random differences in color giving the intricate textures in the steel. It is an obsolete process and modern barrels are much stronger. Damascus barrels are generally not safe to shoot with modern loads.
The pistol grip is the portion of the stock that protrudes downward rather than following a straight line at the bottom of the stock like the English shotgun. It allows a more secure hold on the gun.

The stock of the English gun at the same place is just a straight line . Compare the two in the picture at 10.49 of the video .

12:59 Two barrels, so two triggers. (And they are slightly offset; right trigger, right barrel, left for left.) Also, the choice of gun type depends on what you plan to shoot. Double-barreled shotguns are most often used for hunting things that fly. By contrast, pistols are generally intended for… uh, two-legged non-flying targets.

Damascus steel is a process where you take 2 or more different grades of steel and then forge them together, folding the pieces over on itself a number of times, and WHEN you get the final shaping and work done to it, then you clean and prep it for a caustic etching bath, the different steels will react differently to the etching, so you get those patterns in the steel, so NO, it IS NOT PAINTED, someone spent a lot of time and energy planning out their hammering and folding to get such a pattern which IS EMBEDDED in the steel itself, and it is a beautiful pattern, but those barrels took time and love to make, ESPECIALLY 100 years ago. and even TODAY, there is no automated way to make Damascus steel, ANYTHING you see that is made from Damascus steel, IT IS HAND MADE, and took TIME to make it.

Double guns are still popular in the United States but many hunters and clays shooters like Over/Unders (O/U) as opposed to Side-by-Sides (SxS).
An original but well-used Ithaca might get more than the US$1,000.00 the creator mentioned. Our guns, like this Ithaca, show a lot of use in the wood because our bird shooting is more similar to British wildfowling, whether grouse and woodcock or ducks and geese. I have O/U, SxS, as well as pump and auto-loader shotguns in different gauges. My favorite game birds are grouse, woodcock and quail (28 Gauge SxS); pheasants and ducks (20 Gauge O/U and pump); and turkeys and geese (12 Gauge auto-loader).
Pistol grip on the stock helps a lot of people mount the gun more easily than a straight English stock. Traditional SxS guns have double triggers (one for each barrel) although newer models from Spain and Italy as well as the U.K. offer a single trigger that sequentially fires from the barrels.

I'm an American who has side by side shotguns both of similar age to the ones in the video as well as some modern ones. I can tell you that side by side shotguns haven't changed all that much. Shotguns are generally used for either hunting so the design is geared towards hunters. Getting a shotgun with that kind of engraving though, even vintage ones as shown in the video, would raise the value significantly in the states as it is seen as a piece of functional art. Just a standard, plain, no frills used double-barrel shotgun would be $300-$500. Add in the artwork and quality shown on these ones and $1000-$1500 would not be out of the question.

He did make one error in the history, when he said that _at the time of the Revolution_ the "King's land" became available for everyone to hunt. That's nonsense. People over here hunted all along, well before the colonies were founded (both the locals, and visiting Europeans who were here for trade or fur trapping or whatever), and when the colonists arrived, they hunted for food as well, from the beginning. The Revolution changed a number of things, but not that. When the Revolution did happen, the colonists used their hunting rifles to fight. At the time, British subjects _in general_ were allowed to keep and bear arms, but it wasn't constitutionally guaranteed, until the adoption of the US Bill of Rights.
There are other countries, besides America, where you can go to a gun range. Switzerland, for instance.

The title says cheapest gun, but shotguns aren't the cheapest guns you can buy. And some of the most expensive guns you can buy are Shotguns, especially Italian made. I remember back in the 80's no-name gun companies existed in the South where they sold cheaply made handguns for $50 which enterprising gangbangers from NYC would buy and then smuggle into NYC and sell them for $400-500 each. But they supposedly were so poorly made that they could explode in your hand. When national safety standards were increased, those companies went out of business. I do remember buying a used Ithaca pump shotgun for $250 in the early 90's. At the same time I bought a used Chinese SKS for $80. Cheapest ammo was Chinese made Norinco since they used steel cartridges. Since I had no intention of setting up a reloading bench, the fact that steel cases could not be reloaded did not bother me.

British guns are rare in the states at least after the war of 1812. You see them now and again being sold at pawn shops and gun shows. They all have a distinct tower of London proof mark on the barrel saying it was fired and tested at the Royal Armory in London. American guns are tested in four cities and triple inspected before ever leaving for the military or for sale. The rule is any weapon that is from the year 1905 or before doesn’t need a license or it doesn’t need to be registered with the ATF. That would make it an antique gun. If a gun fires then it’s more valuable but there are guns that have gone up in value not to have been fired as a bullet was loaded by its last owner and never was fired. This happened in the civil war and the American revolution as people fell and the guns were collected and passed down through time. I would never unload them as it would damage the gun although you could burn out the powder and leave the bullet inside. Either way the gun will have history and a story which could make it more valuable.

These are both sporting guns that were sold to wealthy individuals, think people that would buy a Rolls Royce in the same time period. These were not guns that the average person would ever buy, though 100+ years ago side by side double barrel shotguns were a thing in the US, today the cheapest Shotguns on the market are single shot imported guns often imported from countries like Turkey and sell new for under $150, pump action shotguns run between $250-$1,100, the Maverick 88 is a good example of a $250 pump shotgun, maybe $199 if caught on sale, the Remington 870 is a perfect example of this, the low end 870 Express with plastic stocks and matt finish steel sells for about $450, and the 870 Wingmaster with Walnut wood stocks, and polished blued steel runs about $975, mechanically they are identical, just one is finished and fit to a higher standard. Semi-automatic shotguns run in the $650 - $2,000 range for the most part, of course in all cases there are the ornately finished, hand crafted examples that can cost much more.

All double barrel shotguns are for snobs or Fudds. Most people actually doing either upland or waterfowl bird hunting use pumps or semiautos. The actual cost varies widely, with prices ranging from a few hundred for Turkish made to tens of thousands for German shotguns. Very old shotguns can be unsafe if using “damascus”, i. e. hammerwelded barrels, which are unsafe with modern ammo.

Well they are both over 100 years old, and here in the U.S. that also figures into their worth, as they are in fact antiques, which adds a lot of value in itself, and the fact that he is SHOOTING them, adds even more, I would have to get a better look at them, but the one thing he mentioned that causes me some worry on the British one is he said the barrels are sleeved, this is USUALLY not a good thing, most of the time, it is a temporary repair till a new set of barrels can be made for the gun, which brings up a different problem, WHO is going to make a high quality set of side by side double barrel shotgun barrels? how much is that going to cost? and will they come with similar engraving work to match the stock of the gun? now 110 years ago, this probably could have been easily done about $2, TODAY I am suspecting about $1,000 as firearms are NOT nearly as inexpensive as they were 100 years ago, but because of the age of it, it MIGHT be worthwhile to do that, but in Todays market, double barrel shotguns are usually manufactured in an over/under configuration, but I do believe that some manufactures still make a limited number in the side by side configuration.

Assuming he may be referring to the gun itself and not the model, many guns hundreds of years old are still really cheap. Mostly because they were made in such mass quantities that they never really became rare collector's items. The Mosin Nagant for example is a model that is anywhere from 80-100 years old and you can buy like crates of them for a few K.

As far as buying whatever we want goes, no, you can't there are some you can buy with a special clearance which requires a tax stamp from the IRS and a deeper background check and a lot more rules attached to it. You also have to have the money to buy it, buy ammunition, and other specialized adapters to add to them like suppressors, which also require the processes above. OB Dave has firearms. So, no, you guys can have them. When he said 25 quid for the gun, you don't know what kind of shape the gun was in as he said it needed a bit of work. It might not have been useable. I don't remember what he said other than cheap gun, cheap stock, it might not of had a stock when he bought it. Could've been rusty, caus the bluing on it now doesn't show it's age. furthermore, there's not alot of buyers of guns in the UK so it's a smaller market and if you think of averages, how many people are going to buy a gun they have to put a lot of work into before they can use it? I personally prefer newer guns. The AR platform is nice as there's near endless ways to customize every single piece and if anything were to break, it's easily replaceable. That and you can change everything but the lower receiver, but it still technically be the same gun. Man I've said that word too many times, there's no way they monetize this video. lol There are tons of ranges in and around Vegas, you should have tried another one. You can call them and ask before you go so you don't waste time during your trip.
