I used to have them custom-made by an older Korean woman who would measure me, then have them done in about 5 days. My favourites were constructed with 16oz canvas.
Shureido. Well constructed and long lasting. Everyone at the shop is wonderful. When I asked for my dojo to be embroidered under the association insignia, they immediately knew my Sensei’s name and told me how wonderful he is when he visits.
I have a Blitz White Diamond heavyweight karate gi and have had it for 27 years! Takes a long time to dry after washing but everything about it is very strong and still as good now as when I bought it.
I chose mine based solely on wear and tear, Tokaido (the ultimate) is by far my favorite. We do a lot of grabbing and throwing in our sparring so I need my karate gi to handle it.
My favorite brand is Kamikaze or Kaiten. They are designed in Europe, so it fits well with our body type. I love the Kamikaze Europa. For ligh kumite gi you can't go wrong with Adidas.
I bought a Kamikaze Sovereign like 6 months ago and after 20 years and having used even Shureido, nothing has felt as comfy as this one. The best thing I've ever bought for Karate hands down.
I took the plunge and ordered my first tailored Dogi last February. I went with Hirota and the Pinack for kumite in particular. Everything was done through Kuruobiya, and Hamid who was super helpful guiding me through the measuring process. it took 4 months for my Dogi to be made and to arrive in the UK which I knew would be the case at the time of ordering. Frustratingly is sat for nearly 2 weeks in customs. As for the Dogi it is fantastic. Having used the Tokaido kata master prior to this one, the Hirota is noticeably lighter a you would expect but its still snappy when doing kata and Kihon. It isn't as light as some of the zero gravity kumite dogi that WKF competitors favour. The Pinack for kumite does hold some shape. It is very easy to move in, and comfortable to wear. Shrinkage has been minimal and it has been used and washed twice a week since it arrived in June last year. I always wash it on a cold wash though. It dries quickly and you can get away without needing to iron it if hung right straight after the wash. Because we've been training on zoom through all these lockdowns I haven't felt the need to iron it. but in real life face to face training I would. The few times I have ironed the dogi it has been really easy to get looking good. So Any one wanting an around Dogi I would certainly recommend the Hirota Pinack for Kumite. To me it seems to work well all round.
I recently ordered a Tokaido Kata Master. Its amazing, well made, very sturdy and has that snap sound when we do katas. The down side is, i found it a bit heavy... Regarding kumite dogi, i dont have one, simply because i dont do kumite anymore lol, im too old for that lol
i wear Seishin Gi for normal practice but for official competition (especially Kumite) I am obligated to wear the IKO 1 Ichigeki Gi for Kyokushin karate
I always wear Shureido New Wave 3 WKF, but ordered a fully custom Hirota Takumi WKF 1 week ago. It will take 14 weeks to be made, but I think it will be worth it. At Hirota, you can even choose the height of the armhole, length of the 'flap', the width of the arms and the width of the bottom part of the trousers. There are 10 measurements you have to give in total. I don't think any other brand offers that level of customization, not even Shureido. It is kinda pricey though 😬. I can't wait
Shureido does do a lot of customization but it is a lot easier to do it all in person. I got my NW3 how I like it and keep the measurements then just reach out to Shureido directly with those measurements and they handle it
Sureido KB-10 it has lasted me 17 years but I’ve got to buy another gi because the knees have finally worn out in the pants. I love this gi especially for hard grappling and ukemi.Texas
I love my Venum "Elite Kata" gi for training kihon and kata. I use a well vented Adidas gi for kumite, I sweat a lot and the vented panels help loads and its cheap enough that I don't mind getting blood on it
I prefer the seishin Okinawa edition. I have had alot of karategi’s in the past, even prefer it over the regular seishin. But, all budogi’s that I buy first go to the tailor!
Just purchased the Okinawa Edition a few minutes ago. I assume it will be a huge upgrade from the standard ki international dogi my dojo gave me. Very excited to say the least!
I just started using SMAI after being with a previous brand for many years of kata competition. It’s my new favorite. It’s the same material, but feels lighter. I usually get one size up, then I have it altered by my tailor.
I still wear the traditional cut Tokaido Ultimate. I can remember when you could buy one for $45 U.S. at the Tokaido shop in Tokyo. For hot summers I wear the Meijin "Tropical". Lighter and cooler, also Meijin will mix tops and bottom sizes when you order.
I have been using Fuji karate Gi 14 Oz brush cotton. It's a awesome Gi over 5 year's I own 3 of them I even buy them gave 2 of them.as birthday gifts they say they are truly great gi .they still look clean and feel just like the top 2 name brands out there. The uniform goes for my size $80 but it's worth it.
I have several different styles of Tokaido for Kata (Hyung). By far my favorite. Adidas also makes amazing karate gi for both kata and kumite. I look forward to trying Seishin.
Good points on what to look for. Forgot to mention from before that I have a Punok karate gi along with my 2 heavy weight mac kata gi and my adidas kumite gi.
I'd have to check what make of gi's that I have. Both of my gi's fit me perfectly and they are both quite thick material but one is a bit lighter than the other.I hate the gi's which are way too long. The other thing about wearing the correct side which wasn't mentioned here is ..You look so much smarter with correct size gi's especially whilst performing kata..great vid..Hope a lot of people watch this.
I wear a Matushi Brand Heavy Weight. It is a Kata GI with the shorter arm and leg length, but does have a longer Jacket (the part below the belt that hangs down (cant remember the name).
For Kihon and Kata Hirota Pinak Kata and Kumite. Depending on the time of year. Hirota Takumi for Tournaments Kata Kumite: Hirota Kuu, Addidas, Ariwaza
@@michaelgabriel5786 Yes it definitely is bigger then Tokaido even if it says same size! Ive had a few attempts to shrink my Shureido . Tokaido feels true to size. Both great quality though.
I am from Germany and practice Goju Ryu Karate and I started with a Adidas Club 220 Dogi but for my taste it felt to flimsy with around 7oz. and I recently bought a Kaiten America with around 13-14oz and I really love it. The Dogi is well made, heavy and stabel but also comfy.

I have a couple of dogi with the store brand, just for training. They're not great for kata, but are actually light enough to be worthwhile for training, especially in hot days. Then I have a SKI-P (SKIF Portugal) issued dogi, which is what I use for tournaments and special occasions. It's way better then the store brands, but training in a hot day is torture (that I happily endure).
Ive tried a number of gis, and struggled with sizing. We have a local company called Satori that are great in the size/length ratio at about 12oz. Otherwise I have a Fuji gi, and have tried a few others. Ive pulled away from anything heavier than a 12oz because I dont need anything more....10-12oz depending on the season over here and the usage.
Based on size charts and material: Hirota, the heavy canvas one. But in fact I prefer a (much cheaper) jiu jitsu suit. May not look as good, but is more comfortable.
In Serbia, the most common kata gi is the ipon WKF kata master kimono (gi) or ipon kimonos in general but in my opinion the Arawaza black diamond kimono is the best. Stiffer material=better is what I- and most people are going for. People usually wear the ipo gi because it's not as heavy as the arawaza one but I personally like the heavyness. The tokaiodo kimono is also available but I don't have any experience with that brand and i wish to somaday try their gi. About the kumite gis arawaza and adidas are the most used brands.
I have a Blitz heavyweight gi at the moment. My very first gi was a Kamikaze gi which I still have but it looks a little bit rough now. Both brands are amazing. 🙏
TOKAIDO International catalog have a wide range of models with the best quality/price ratio. Give a try to the new Kumite K1 and Kata Tokyo...and SAW and TSA for old school karatecas ;)
Tokaido made in Japan is my favorite so far out of three karategi’s that Ihave had so far. My light weight Adidas karategi is good for training during the warmer months, but it does not have the good feel that I get with my Tokaido karategi.
have you tried or heard the Muvon brand? they're from Indonesia and they are also made of excellent materials. in fact, the Powerevo (Kata) and Speed Duo (Kumite) are already WKF approved

Ronin “Shiai” (very heavy and well made);. My favorite is a blue “BOLD look” (medium weight), very comfortable (My second Sensei didn’t care what color we had); no “see through” and much easier to clean than white (we did jujitsu too).

hi Sensei Yusuke. Can u advise how long and thick should a kata belt be to look good for competition? for eg. im 173 cm. also, i notice theres a different way of tying a belt during competition as compared to the usual way during dojo training. WKF champion Sandra Sanchez Sensei demonstrated it in one of her videos, but i couldnt understand it . hope u can do a video on it . thanks!

Heiii I wanted to ask if you can make a video about how to do push ups right bcs I'm having problems in doing many pushups in one set and also my form is really bad haha. Btw love your videos! I subscribed right away when I found you!
I wear what I guess you'd call a medium weight gi. Ok, do-gi. They just look better and also look and sound better in kata. I have a lighter weight gi that rarely gets worn. However, I have worn the lighter pants sometimes if I know I'm going to spare (I call it fight night) because my kicks are faster. I'm older now so those little things help.
I have only one rule for karategi: does it fit me and I can train and do everything? If so, then I use it. I personally don't care the brand or durability, I only care about my training xD
Which karate gi brand do you wear?
There is no specific brand. But Kyokushin Gis have a shorter sleeve usually a bit over the elbows.
Seishin 🥋😍🇯🇵
I love Seishin gi but my Sensei recommend Gokido gi which is an Indian brand...
Several. Seishin, Hayashi, Shureido, Arawaza, each with specific pros and cons.
