- The Seiko Monster has been around for over 20 years, it isn't getting any cheaper so can it still command a place in a watch collection all these years on?
Here's a look at the Save The Ocean special edition ref. SRPG57K1.

I have the same watch. First I removed the cyclops and replaced the bracelet. I love this watch. Great video.
Thanks for the kind words. How did you remove the cyclops from yours? I've heard a few methods but not tried any.... Well not yet 😅
@@nextonthewrist I used some aluminum tape to protect the bezel. Next I placed the watch in a shallow dish of water to keep it cool. I used a pencil butane torch to heat the cyclops and gently scraped it off with a razor blade. I’ve done this also to the Seiko SPB123 Alpinist. I’m not a fan of the cyclops. Hope this helps.
Massive help. Will likely give this a go in the next few weeks. Cheers 🙂👍
I have a Monster (2022 edition SRPH75 with the "penguins" dial.) I've heard horror stories about misaligned indices, poorly-fitting end links, dirt specks under crystal, etc. but my example mercifully avoided all these defects despite an extremely low serial number. It's not for everyone: it's HEAVY, you don't get a sapphire crystal, the pressed clasp is mediocre, the divers' extension is just about unusable, and the bezel and bracelet are unbelievable dirt magnets. But all that is forgiven when you look at the amazing dial, and it has an awesome presence on your wrist.
Thank you for your video as it went into the purchasing decision for my SRPG57. I picked it off of eBay for $313 USD new. Excited to wear it once I receive it in the next week!
Congrats on the pickup, you'll love it 🙂
I have the sbdy105. Love seeing the kanji. I found a cool nylon strap that actually matches the color of the dial. The only thing is I think it tends to make the watch head heavy. May put it back on the bracelet.
Monsters have a charm all their own. Really fun watches. The Thai versions are crazy colorful.
Thanks for the comments 😎 🍻... Agreed - all the thai Seiko editions are so cool, I'm always tempted!!
I purchased this piece last year, was a hard decision between this and their other save the ocean monster. But once I recieved it had no regrets on my choice, everything lines up too and no dodgy O lol. Agreed tho give us a milled clasp and signed 👑
Have both Gen 1 Black & Orange Monters and absolutely love them.
Modern classics the gen 1, great pieces 😎👌
Thanks for the review👏.
So good to see a Monster review. I have two Monsters (one is the 6R15 frost Monster) and I love them. A classic and unusual watch 👏👍
I have 5 Monsters including this one. I reckon they’re great. I’ve got aftermarket bracelets on all of them, each with a milled clasp. The milled clasp on all of them is pinchy and scratchy but Seiko’s stamped clasps are super comfortable. Nothing beats the comfort of a Seiko stamped clasp.
If you get a chance to try a Mido ocean star vintage on the bracelet give it a go. It's my most comfortable and it isn't stamped so it can be done with milling and attention to finishing 😅.... but I do agree often milled clasps, especially those at the lower end are not manufacturered with enough attention to comfort. Cheers for the comments and awesome to have 5 of these beauts 🍻 👍
I own the J version of this watch the SBDY105. I also own the SBDY115 as well . Love them both they’re incredible watches .
Great review of the monster!
I also have this, no misaligned issues with mine. I agree about the clasp but you forgot to mention its very durable and comfortable. I swapped it to a milled one but then changed it back.
I do have the black pvd full lume seestern monster which is almost as good as seiko and i do have the islander dlc carbon dial monster which is tye ultimate best monster ever!
I wish they take the second gen dial and the fourth gen case. No day/date just shark teeth all over 😁
100% agree second gen dial and fourth gen case would be great! I tried to cover the comfort when talking about it on wrist - rather the bracelet and clasp as a whole though. I still think the same comfort could be achieved with a better clasp, but it has got to be designed correctly for sure. Not surprised to hear the islander is awesome 😎 🙌... thanks for the comments 🍻
You cannot go wrong with Seiko. I got thr darker version , with the penguins , and its worth every single cent.
hm you got it ?
@@osamamostafa1475 yes and absolutely satisfied
My first Gen is still chugging away after nearly twenty years. I skipped the 2nd Gen, I have a Heimdallr 2nd Gen homage which is actually very nice for the money. I have the 3rd Gen with the navy Dial which I am quite fond of, the bezel action on the 3rd Gen is great. I need to grab a 4th Gen before they disappear. As you mentioned, these watches are almost a love hate thing, I love mine.
I cannot decide if I like the Monster or not. I never seen one in person. I love love my Samurai, even though its the bargain basement SRPF03.
It's a very strange / unique piece for sure. I still don't love the traditional bright orange but the save the ocean tones it down enough for me to really appreciate it. Definitely see if you can find somewhere to try one on if you can 🙂👍
@@nextonthewrist Will do.
Great video....Thanks I've been looking at this one lately. Happy New Year...!.
Thank you, it's s great piece - happy new year 🙂🍻
I got the gen 1 black & orange and they got the most time on my wrist. I never liked monsters and teally hated the design. Now it simple love them.
Great video just subbed. Always had my eye on a monster. They really are some beastly watches
Thank you 🍻...they're such an instantly identifiable design even from distance which is a rare breed in modern dive watches. If you get one let me know how you get on with it 🙂👍
i am want to buy one, but i still dont know, which one looks better in the light and in the water, the dark one with pinguins or this ^^
Both great choices 😎🙌
Grazie per la disamina, saluti dalla Sicilia!
grazie per aver guardato 😎👍
Great review, thanks! I have just purchased my first Monster - an orange Gen 1. I am hoping to buy a black Gen 1 from the same dealer. I have been looking for one to add to my Seiko collection for over a year now - they are only increasing in price and will, I believe, become something of an iconic dive watch in this price range.
My pleasure and congrats on the pickup - the orange feels like a properly classic colorway for the monster too!
The other day I found myself with an urge to buy a Seiko diver for the first time in about 5 or 6 years . I was out and the SPB 143 caught my eye , I couldn’t get it out of my head . I thought wow Seiko has really stepped their game up , So I pulled the trigger . Now that I have it I find myself disappointed. Worst clasp I be ever seen on a $1200 watch . Luckily I found a deal on it for $900 but still that clasp is hard to get over . The only other Seiko I’ve own is a Sarb 035 and it’s amazing that it cost less then half of the price of the 143 .
Same feeling exactly 🙌 - I sold my SPB297 as it just felt underwhelming for the price despite the stunning dial. End link fitment is shocking and clasp was not good enough for the price. Also the 6R needs to be more accurate out the box at this price. Eta2824s tend to run far better from the factory... My SPB297 arrived +24 seconds per day. I think the sweetspot where I can forgive them for the flaws is definitely around $400-500 for now 😅... that Sarb you have is definitely a peak for Seiko.
@@nextonthewrist I want to really give it a good shot cuz I really like and size and Dial . I really thought it was gonna be that Seiko that I just completely fell in love with. I ordered one of those Uncle Bracelets. I usually down mess with aftermarket bracelets but I know people who use them with their Omegas and Tudors and they swear by them. I want this watch to hold me over a while lol till I can get a new Seamaster or Soeedmaster. I’ll probably go with the Speedmaster though, because I never owed owed one and I’ve already owned 3 seamasters .
great review handsome man
Haha thanks.... I try 😆
I just bought it.
If you like a watch with scratches all over the lens this is the watch for you.Seiko needs to wake up and put a sapphire crystal on this watch. If this watch was $ 100 less it should still have a sapphire crystal.
I prefer sapphire personally, but I've never had hardlex scratch, it is recessed behind the bezel and their main argument would be that it won't shatter underwater with an impact where sapphire will due to its increased hardness. Thanks for the comments 🙂👍
@@nextonthewrist I'm aware of this and also aware that NASA didn't use this on the Omega they are being cheap and over pricing this watch ..99% of people on you tube agree with this and almost everyone of them show scratches on the monster.A nice review though.
To this day Monster is the most original designed watch in the history of horology.
Definitely up there, amazing design work!
I hate the rectangle window.
wish had blue lumen!
Love the new watch however Seiko has become cheap and won't send printed manual as stated on the warranty card. This may be the last Seiko I buy.
Mine came with a printed manual, maybe I was lucky 😅
am getting ads on your video's are you monetized?
Nope, you need a minimum of 1000 subs to even apply for monetization. I think TH-cam can still apply ads on any vids and keep 100% revenue for themselves but I may be wrong.
Sure and you can buy many way cheaper Chinese "hommages" with the same SII movements and they make very nice different color dials too. Seiko makes their watches to expensive without changes much more over the years.
It good to have options, some value the brand and some aren't fussed. Both have their place and respective pros and cons 🙂👍
Dont care about brand or history. I prefer my Heimdallr. No sapphire glass or milled clasp on the Seiko means Seiko is ripping you off. Looks like you did have bad luck with your Heimdallr. I don't have those skinny numerals on the bezel on mine.
That's fair - I think they both have their place. I guess the Islander too 😎 thanks for the comments 🍻
@@nextonthewrist Well i got ripped off too...couldn't resist that dial. Now i can directly compare the two and i'd say the Seiko does look quite a bit better.
My Citizen Promaster is louder.
Louder?
Bull shit, 4 gen monster come 2019
OK 🙂
Great 👍 videos keep up the good work and good luck 🍀 for the future, you have what it takes, thanks.😊
Thank you kindly mate much appreciated 🍻 🍻 😎
