    I’m getting ready to change the belt on my wife’s Camry and I have been working on cars pretty much all my life and I am 62 sliding that belt off the water pump totally makes since and the tensioner I could see that happening no one has mentioned that in their videos that I watch either I am glad I stumbled upon yours. You might have saved me from a nightmare. Keep spreading the word.

    I wanted to mention something that helped me a lot I did do it the way you showed us sliding the belt over water pump pulley. I have been a mechanic most of my life but I’m 62 now and seeing all the stuff down there is really hard for me with glasses and low light and I had a problem getting the belt around all the pulleys and keeping them on was difficult mostly because I can’t even get my hands down there very well I have the long rod with the forks on the end to help guide the belt on but it just kept slipping of so eventually I had a idea and I used a zip tie to hold the crank and p/s pully to hold the belt on and after I did that I was able to get the rest of the belt on the pulley’s easily thank goodness the crank and p/s pulley had holes in them it really helped lots so I just thought I’d mention that to you and thanks again for the video

    Thank God I found this because our belt is about shot and needs to be replaced. And I would have been the next guy to break the tensioner. God bless you for caring about others, I really appreciate it.

    Thanks so much-
    You kept your word! Such a great tip Phil! I did notice the smooth pulley below when I changed alternator for nothing as the scraping noise hasn’t stopped. Noticed more pulleys grinding after turning by hand and not only belt tensioner pulley but also A/C pulley. A/C pulley seems complicated for the DIY’er- so that’s gonna cost quite a bit I imagine!

      Yes you'll have to go ahead And replace The belt tensioner pulley And might want to go ahead and replace the belt too while you're at it, depending on how many miles it has. There are a couple of pretty good TH-cam videos on how to replace The bell tensioner

    Yea, I stripped the bolt, however I couldn't get this method to work. Am I missing something? I'm trying to get it back on, and I stripped that bolt. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

    • @philhall7570
      @philhall7570  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Are we referring to the same bolt head that releases the tension off the belt? So if you stripped that you apparently were just pulling too hard on it or didn't have a proper fit for the bolt head(or both). If You haven't fixed it yet, try a 6 sided socket that fits it tighter. You don't need to pull on it that hard to slide the belt on. Note: There is a place when you're pulling on the bolt head that you hit a wall of greater resistance. This is the point where you do not want to pull harder, And shouldn't have to.
