Interesting, a number of the most eminent markets experts have been expressing their views on the severity of the impending economic downturn and the extent to which equities might plummet. This is because the economy is heading towards a recession and inflation is persistently above the federal reserve’s 2% target. As I’m aiming to create a portfolio worth not less than $670,000 before I turn 60, I would appreciate any advice on potential investments.

There are many other interesting stocks in many industries that you might follow. You don’t have to act on every forecast, so I’ll suggest that you work with a financial advisor who can help you choose the best to purchase and sell the shares or ETF’s you want to acquire.

Amazing I know John Desmond Heppolette, glad I found this recommendation earlier on. I have made some pretty impressive gains, I closed last year with my investment portfolio at $487k. I love his insights and innovative approach to how his ETF’s are run so different from the stale methods of managers I’ve work with in the past.

At 25:58, regarding the mention of Gabor Mate, he is actually very wrong about topics such as ADHD and perpetuates some harmful misinformation about it. Dr Russell Barkley is an expert on ADHD for decades and decades and made a video summarizing the science of why Mate is wrong.

Sacrificing my mental health did lead to more professional success for me but only because of the “work hard play hard”culture. I had to get out of that “work hard play hard”/high pressure environment to realize how important my mental health was. Peer pressure can overpower the inner voice screaming for help 🙃

I grew up in an urban environment where we walked or took public transportation. So for people to feel embarrassed about the car they drive is more about them feeling left out and comparing themselves to others. I grew up in a family who never had a car and my mom never plans on driving and medically it's best for her not to because she's had a history of vertigo.

Hi, Chelsea, psychopharmacology is just the mechanics of how different drugs (both legitimate psychiatric prescriptions and illegal street drugs) work on your brain/body. I took it as an elective in undergrad and we talked about both legal and illegal drugs. The use of psychedelics in mental health treatment is actually a hot topic in mental health research! There are starting to be places using ketamine (which is normally an animal tranquilizer) in a controlled IV drip and it is also being prescribed as a prescription nasal spray. I am really interested to see where it all goes for the people who don't respond to traditional antidepressants, etc.

Neoliberalism means telling people everything is individual. Our struggles are NOT individual, they are collective. More trade unions, less therapy. They want us to adapt to this system no matter what, so we don't change it.

    • @Iquey
      @Iquey ปีที่แล้ว +5

Both, but maybe a little less CBT and more emdr and dbt. We need therapy so we can heal and recoup strength to tear down the systems that traumatized us.

Also, therapy doesn't fix any financial stress. You can talk about it, sure, but at the end of the day there's inflation and it is making it impossible to make ends meet. We're drowning.

I try to think of my mental health like I think of running. My foot hurts, ok time to rest, ice, compression!
But why does my foot hurt? Did I do too much too fast? Are my shoes worn out? Did I start striking differently? Is a different muscle group really tight and actually the cause of the pain? Etc. search for root cause or I’ll never get back out there

Hi Chelsea! Loved the video and just wanted to add that I would recommend skepticism towards Gabor Mate and his stance on disorders such as ADHD. His work is not scientific nor backed up by proper research methods. I would highly recommend checking out Russell Barkley instead and he also has a video discussing the harm of Gabor's stance on it. I don't dislike Gabor and I do appreciate him standing up for people struggling with addictions, but it's irresponsible for him to make certain claims when ADHD can create profound difficulties in one's life and requires evidence-based tools and strategies to treat it.

There's a quote that I like..."Rushing is another form of going nowhere." I believe it was in the mindfulness book "30 Days to Reduce Anxiety" by Harper Daniels. My life and business improved when I got serious about my mental health, essentially creating an anxiety management routine in the morning, incorporating a few minutes of mindfulness throughout the day. We don't do well when in overdrive...it's critical to slow down and relax into a flow state.

I have a degree in school counseling, and thus had to learn about a variety of counseling philosophies/methodologies. It's been interesting hearing more of the perspective of someone who works in an Existential framework. I remember it being sort of controversial in my class when we learned about it as it's more focused on what you as an individual can and should do rather than focusing on systemic forces. It's puts a lot of focus on personal responsibility. But I also remember thinking it was a very empowering framework and that it's good to approach every problem in terms of what we can do to improve our situation, in spite of all the challenges in our lives. And I think everyone can benefit from really evaluating what living a meaningful life would look like for themselves and approaches decisions more philosophically.

Thankfully I make enough to pay my therapist in Mexico 100 bucks a month because my social work salary sure af doesn't give me the financial bandwidth to pay $180 a session and I am not going to the providers under my insurance because either the ones I can tell would be great options don't have availability and the ones that do I wouldn't even fly over.

On a show about building Earthship homes, one of the crew was interviewed and said he'd quit a six-figure Wall Street job to "swing a hammer" and he'd never been happier. For him, the big money came with big stress and moving to an active, more subsistence lifestyle brought more joy.
I'm so glad you brought up the part about the drug advertising. It puts medications in the same category as all of the ads trying to get you to buy something, especially because sometimes it plants the seed that you might have a "health concern" that you didn't know you had and encourages people to ask for medicines that they may not need. (they skirt some laws with that "ask your doctor" line that otherwise make the ads illegal)

Drinking is expected in high pressure academic/STEM peer groups. I’m just over 2 years sober from alcohol, after leaving academia and the intense pressure. The amount of “networking opportunities” that required me to neglect my health is endless, there was always a shot at funding or fellowships if we just got a drink with the right professor or trustee. Nowadays I refuse to do any networking. I’m done trading small talk for opportunities I’ve already earned.

Gold advice at 21:21 : The immediate gratification is the alleviation of low self-esteem. It's the ability to feel as though you're fitting into a group.
Figure out the thing you want so immediately, not a car payment or a car, but to feel better, feel a part of.
What is the feeling that I'm getting out of these things I'm spending on, and are there alternative ways to get that feeling that aren't going to affect my finance thus mental health in the long run.

For someone in the mental health field she gave a not great description between an LCSW and clinical psychologist (PsyD, PhD). Both provide therapy, psychologists have more extensive education/training and provide testing/assessments. Diagnostics/disorders are more heavily emphasized in clinical psychology. Social work is more focused on systems and structures.

My father was an alcoholic, and it was ruinous to the family's finances. Not only the alcohol, but the wrecked cars, vehicles impounded for drunk driving and the forced time off because he couldn't drive to work, and the impulse purchases fueled by drinking.
Both my boomer patents worked, and my dad made over $40 an hour plus overtime in the 90s, which was the best wages in the area, but they had not much to show for it by the time he passed away.
Thankfully, he had a pension and my mom is ok in retirement, though not really comfortable.

Even doing all the training and extra classes it’s depressing that it doesn’t appear to have paid off and given me a stable career so I feel like the only way to survive is to just become a jaded person who’s too cool to care about shit, to not think about it at all, because when you don’t care about stuff you can’t get hurt.
