In WA, new to fishing, older in years and love this vid because it’s something I can learn from and have a crack at, cheers. Looking forward to going through your channel and finding lots more I can try!! Thanks 👍🏼
I've fished similar poppers on the south WA coast and have caught many different species. Salmon and herring can't leave them alone, flathead are always a chance when just reeling in for a rebait as they often sit at the front of the gutter ready to ambush something moving. Skippy (silver trevally), sand whiting, king George whiting tarwhine (yellow fin bream) and even a mulloway but unfortunately he was too big and straightened the hook and I lost it 2 feet from shore. I have only ever had one fish take the bait on the lower hook and that was a stingray. I've been fishing the Nth Perth beaches for the last few years and still give them a try with no luck so far, I will persist after seeing this
Hi mate, great looking rig - really like the way you do the droppers. I do a lot of whiting fishing on the east coast with my Alvey, but rarely go stronger than 8 to 10lb for the leader. Why do you go up to 25lb? Is it to handle the bycatch on the popper? Cheers
Gday Ben, I use the 25 lb or stronger for 2 reasons, one of them is indeed bycatch, second is the thicker stiffer line means my droppers stand out from the rig alot more and are far less prone to tangling around the rig. When in heavy surf it can be a nightmare fishing the droppers if they are not made with stiffer lines.

@@nickfitzpatrick5302 Gday nick. Glad to have you onboard.
Must admit it makes sense, will definitely give it a go, never too old to learn new tricks.
Have fun!
Just found your channel - talk about simple, no nonsense advice! Subscribed.
Really glad you like the no-nonsense style content mate.
Definitely more rig tutorials and maybe knots v crimps as well
Cheers
You got it! This Sunday we will start dropping new videos again
Lol, that sinker will knock whiting out before u catch them. Looks like an awesome spot
When fishing super fast washy gutters unfortunately you require a Bombie knocker size sinker 😂
Nice rig mate. Awesome background too.
Yeah it sure is a tip top backdrop
Great clip. More rig vids for sure !
Plenty more coming mate
Good stuff brendo
Thanks mate
Great vid mate, explained well with no fluff :-)
Glad you enjoyed it Leo
Great vid, keep up the good work! Damn I want to get out to Wedge soon!
Wedge- a small touch of paradise
I'm late to the game and this helps. Cheers mate
Glad it helped mate.
Thanks great stuff 👍
No problem 👍
As a new alvey owner here in the states. I like the looks of this rig just trying to figure out to use it here
Awesome stuff. You will love the alvey and the rig for sure. Pretty sure over your way it could be referred to as a hi/low rig
Yes sir it is
Hey Brenz love the idea of the popper but why the 20cm lead piece between swivels?
The double swivel is to help eliminate slime twist from alveys. If using conventional spin then is is not necessary
Hi, what bait goes on the other hook please? Also, is it a slow retrieve or do you leave the rig out there like a paternoster? Thanks
You can use what ever bait you please
Would it work ok for alvey to stop twists if only 1 swivel at top and another on the sinker thanks ,Enjoy your vids
Yes, absolutely. We just run it this way to be safe than sorry
Why we need another 20 cm leader at the end ? Can we just attach the setup(small lura/a hook/sinker)directly to main line?
Just to help reduce some line twist when using alveys
Interesting stuff. I've never tried a popper like that. What rod and Alvey reel do you use with that rig?
In the surf I’m using a 45 size alvey on a Gary Howard breambo
Is this the sand whiting we talking about with beach worms etc? But do they really take on those poppers?

Poppers can be dynamite on the whiting

@@On-PointAdventures Cheers for the prompt reply.
Where’s this? Looks like a Vic salmon rig, whiting go for it?
The coast of western australia
Nice, did it get ya any fish?
Sure did. There is a couple of vids and one especially that was a follow on from this vid with plenty of fish
What’s an “Elvey”?
Alvey is an Aussie made fishing reel
whats an LV?
Gday mate, Alvey is a type of reel made in australia
Why cut the dropper loop down to 1 line!
For the smaller fish I think it’s handy to reduce the chances of seeing the line
very hard to see what you are doing , clearly . unfortunately . thanks anyway
That’s a shame, I will endeavour to use brighter colours next time. I’m we will certainly get on top of it. Thanks for the feedback
