I learned this song a few years ago using the tab Andy transcribed and listening to the studio version over and over. Then I started incorporating a lot of SRV licks in it. After feeling really comfortable with the groove of the song I started doing a lot of my own stuff with it, although I still keep a lot of Hendrix and SRV key licks in it. This song is a blast to play and if played right, most people will look at you like a guitar god if you nail it in front of them. It’s very impressive to other people with the wah and that brutal rhythm especially if your tone is on point. Anyway, I’ve seen more than couple transcriptions of this song and I’m amazed at the incredible detail of Andy’s transcription. I don’t know how he did it. It is clearly the most detailed and accurate I’ve ever seen. I don’t play it exactly like the record that much anymore but learning those “little quirks” that he talks about I feel has made me into a better player all around. I would recommend to anybody who wants to be a good guitar player to study the shit out of Jimi and Stevie’s music. I’m grateful to this guy Andy for his teaching. Only critical thing I have to say about this vid is his tone is awful. Way too fizzy
SO MANY people get this wrong man, and it is GREAT that at least someone got this right and taught it correctly in perfect attention to detail. THANK. YOU.
I've seen a lot of tutorials on this song this is by far the best I've ever seen people just don't get that into depth with this song you got it down to the words with whatever hendrix's is decorating the cord with that's some real fine intricate detail thanks Andy that's awesome!
So much of this record is in Eddie Kramer's production. In addition to fading in and out he is CONSTANTLY panning the guitar and drums all over the place. I think he puts some kind of Leslie effect on the drums as well. The result is one of the most epic records ever.
I had a chance to open for Hendrix in 1967. We became good friends, He showed me a ton of licks that he played. That you are playing, Great Job and a Awesome Lesson Dude !Thaddeus " Tad " Proshansky East Coast Productions.
Rick Daly says; Man-o-Shevitz ! iv'e got CD's from eddy ten years ago ! now i find this 2014 , but it's 2017 ! we'll all be dead with a guitar in hand if this keeps up ! learned alot through the years thank you very much !!!!!
A lot of people teach the basic structure of the song but none of them get the proper groove and all the quirky details like Andy! Thanks for the great lesson! You know a small drop of titebond or crazy glue could fix your missing fret marker. Just kidding, I know you earned that through many hours of playing
John Kirkland When I went to this link a week ago I ended up on a PayPal page with no indication of price of the DVD. Am I doing something wrong??? I desperately would like to get this DVD and the other Hendrix DVD's for that matter.
Wow, I didn't realize that. I bought mine about 2 years ago. I did find them on Amazon though - www.amazon.com/Guitar-World-Experiences-Electric-Ladyland/dp/0739059122
I'm in Britain and a friend in America sent me over the six hour long DVD edition of this with EVERYTHING Jimi played on EL on it. LickLibrary UK have also done a complete Electric Ladyland DVD. There's also a shorter version of this GW EL dvd with just six songs on it. Amazon US is your friend.
23:29 to say this...if you're looking to nail the technical perfection, this aint the tune. Dial it in, work that wah pedal, and play it dirty as hell.
Andy Aledort is a great guitarist, but I wish he would replace that dot inlay that fell out. At least put a reliced one back in there if you don't want to ruin the mojo.
You don't need to do it 100% accurate. You surely can do your best and imitate Hendrix's playing. And that's cool. But give it some of your personality. Have fun with it. Make it your own.
Anyone know of any info on Voodoo Child, the 10+ minute one on Electric Ladyland? Whenever I search for anything there only ever seems to be info on this....slight return.
Find the full six hour long Guitar World DVD on how to play Electric Ladyland. It's got everything off the whole album and this video is just a part of it. You can also buy and download a digital version of the full DVD. Or pirate it if you want. The version of Voodoo Chile you seek is on this DVD.
Cheech Chong "Terrible teacher" there may be some truth to that... but on the other hand Andy Aledort is by far the most accurate note for note Hendrix instructor you'll ever find. Giving lessons for a well seasoned guitarist like Andy is probably pretty much boring...
mrbsred1 Andy Aledort has been performing on the Experience Hendrix tour for many years, I really doubt you could find better note for note Hendrix player..

Thaddeus Proshansky
i wish i were you so i had a cool story to tell my grandkids some day
That's so cool, I would love to have a conversation with you! Hendrix means so much to me.
Andy and Wolf Marshall kick ass for transcriptions...I have no idea if they get along but they both are at the top of their game...very very accurate
Andy Aledort is a phenomenal teacher. His Cowboys From Hell lesson was spot on as well!
Man, this is such a great lesson! You play with attitude. Thanks :-) 5:00 is where the fun starts.
Getting a lesson from Andy Aledort, is like getting a lesson from Jimi himself.. absolutely priceless inside knowledge..
Sincerely the best "How to Play Voodoo Child" video I have ever seen.
Thank you very glad you dig it!
Awesome lesson! You got every nuance.
I wish I knew how you got that epic tone. Never seen anyone else do Hendrix on middle pickup.
Amazing lesson. Great attention to detail. Explained perfectly. Best lesson on TH-cam by far. Thank you.
thanks Andy for all the years of offerings
Rick Daly says; Man-o-Shevitz ! iv'e got CD's from eddy ten years ago ! now i find this 2014 , but it's 2017 ! we'll all be dead with a guitar in hand if this keeps up ! learned alot through the years thank you very much !!!!!
Great lesson on Jimi's unique way of adding flare to playing on almost every note, never the same, awesome lesson dude, I'll be back for more
Awesome Tone. Anything resembling jimi is. Thx for sharing.
That guitar gives me goosebumps, definitely 60s orig. Great lesson ofcourse ;)
I love the thumbs down guys. Please teach us to play this on Air Guitar..
Christ! That was Brilliant! I'm amazed but he's nailed it. Wow.
Love the color and fade of the guitar freaking 😎
Yep.... Nice one. You got right ----- and that ain't easy.
Big Applause.
Andy is like a transcriber that helps you decipher holy writ, but most importantly, get it right.
I remember I bought this magazine when I first started playing. Wish I could find it
This is fucking gold, thank you for doing this
Excellent lesson, thanks for your time.

awesome man!!!! thank you for sharing.
Good explanation and lesson, bravo!
Is it me or does this guy looked totally baked? Either way it is an awesome song and lesson.
😂😂😂
A lot of people teach the basic structure of the song but none of them get the proper groove and all the quirky details like Andy!
Thanks for the great lesson!
You know a small drop of titebond or crazy glue could fix your missing fret marker. Just kidding, I know you earned that through many hours of playing
That´s cool. It shows some secrets. Thank you.
What pedals and amp and settings are you using? I like the sound!
That guitar is awesome. Is it missing a position dot marker? or is it a camera thing.
Can you do a lesson on Lenny by Stebie Ray Vaughan? Got the intro down. But the first solo is where I'm struggling with that the moment.
*stevie ray vaughan
One remark - Jimi plays intro on neck pickup
thanks andy ...always a killer...
great perfect lesson i like a lot yor pulloffs
Thank's for the details! ~ Very important to play it right. :)
Very informative !!!!!
I actually have a GW magazine that came with a dvd teaching hear my train a comin'. I should find that dvd and pop it in.
I have a feeling those little subtleties were from different takes and put in during the mixing.
This was epic!
Where is the full instruction DVD? Was it ever made?
andyaledort.com/cds-dvds/ - Electric Ladyland dvd
John Kirkland When I went to this link a week ago I ended up on a PayPal page with no indication of price of the DVD. Am I doing something wrong??? I desperately would like to get this DVD and the other Hendrix DVD's for that matter.

Cant use my fuzz an wah at the same time its so weird got a overdrive pedal that works tho ha
Aledort's Hendrix stuff is amazing...just wonder why he has to pack the foil wrapped cucumber in his trousers before hitting record?
this is slight return could someone post the voodoo child?
how do you play the dead strings please ?
just hardly put your fingers down on the strings but not hard enough for a note to be heard and strum
yeah yur right strange pulloffs but the sound great
Wonder how old that Strat is. Looks ancient.
He spent 4 and a half minutes explaining the muted strumming.
Batman And Robin Yeah that’s because he’s giving you an extremely in-depth view of what’s going on this guy knows his Hendrix for sure
It isn`t easy to recreate Jimi`s wacka wacka sounds.
dude YES

13:50 16:20
Thanx 4post in this.
Which Wah pedal is used here ?
1967 King Vox- wah / Clyde McCoy.. designed by Thomas organ Co, manufactured by J.M.I, Jen Electronica Pescara Italy.. Todays price $800-1000..
I used my original 1966 Vox Clyde McCoy picture wah-sounds killer
23:29 to say this...if you're looking to nail the technical perfection, this aint the tune. Dial it in, work that wah pedal, and play it dirty as hell.
What Gauge Are Those Strings..!?! They Bend Like Rubber Man, My Super Slinks Are So Tight... I Swear Thats Gota Be Less Than 9r's
No one can copy another guitarist
Andy Aledort is a great guitarist, but I wish he would replace that dot inlay that fell out. At least put a reliced one back in there if you don't want to ruin the mojo.
THANK U

That missing inlay is really getting on my nerves.
d4j3b damn u , i hadnt notice, now I can’t sleep!
Currently 3:50 and he’s still scratching the strings 🤦🏻
Listen to Hollywood sanjay dutt
This guitar is a kalachnikov
I love Jimmy Hendrix but I think it's weird to copy his flaws as if they were sacred Voodoo stuff. But thanks anyway.
Anyone know of any info on Voodoo Child, the 10+ minute one on Electric Ladyland? Whenever I search for anything there only ever seems to be info on this....slight return.
"Voodoo Chile" is the long play version..Voodoo child (slight return) is the short play ..
That doesn't answer my question as no matter how you feel like spelling it I can't find it.
vausemike Good luck finding a Voodoo Chile lesson.. rare to say the least..
Find the full six hour long Guitar World DVD on how to play Electric Ladyland. It's got everything off the whole album and this video is just a part of it. You can also buy and download a digital version of the full DVD. Or pirate it if you want. The version of Voodoo Chile you seek is on this DVD.
Papastasche gives a better lesson in less time.
He should have done two parts one with distortion so we can hear the notes clearly and one without.
The song is actually called, "Voodoo Chile" but good video.
Nope Voodoo chile is a different song
Are you saying Hendrix had one song called "Voodoo Child" and another one called "Voodoo Chile?
Yeah they're both on Electric Ladyland
Not true. Voodoo Child(slight return) is this song. Voodoo Chile is the long blues song (4th song on Electric Ladyland.
That's correct, Voodoo Child (slight return)..LOL Millennials..
Nice tutorial I guess, but Jesus that tone sucks
tone might suck compared to Hendrix's original tone.....by man....his tone does do this song justice! i have no issues with his tone at all.
We eagerly await yours
I agree, sounds awful. I hope it's just my headphones. Sounds like a crappy distortion pedal.
Way too much treble. Needs more bass
Not child but Chile!
This is child not chile
@@MaldoMusicTV Sorry, I mistaked. In my country we say: "I pay back you my honor". Greetings from Poland. :)
Boring
Great guitar player... Terrible teacher!
Cheech Chong "Terrible teacher" there may be some truth to that... but on the other hand Andy Aledort is by far the most accurate note for note Hendrix instructor you'll ever find. Giving lessons for a well seasoned guitarist like Andy is probably pretty much boring...
Cheech Chong Or maybe the learner still has a lot to learn before attempting to play Hendrix songs...
***** Agreed.. The people who are complaining are just looking for excuses.. This is basic beginners stuff.
+PRE CBS STRATOCASTER'S Agreed, the most "accurate" transcriber, which means plays it like it was recorded. No one can top him.
mrbsred1 Andy Aledort has been performing on the Experience Hendrix tour for many years, I really doubt you could find better note for note Hendrix player..
wtaf is this nonsense?
