I do not own the rights to this song or video *
When playing live, Jimi always played his songs with different set of melodies and I never get bored of it. SRV & Gary Clark Jr. did that too
Jimi composed it and performed it, SRV covered it, and nailed it, even slightly impoved it. SRV had the best stank face that will ever be beamed out. If you gonna cover this one, for an educated audience, it better be at least equal to the tempo that Stevie played it at. Covers are always up tempo. If you are doing at least the 3rd rendition of a song, it better be realy realy up tempo.
It's always super impressive to me when someone can play this song well. But then I think, to have invented this, to engineer this sound in a time when no one else had ever heard anything like this...Jimi was truly a force of nature.
Jimi stole it from Muddy Waters song Rolling Stone
It was not simple mix the very first time for sure
Yeah you can hear the influence but jimi took it to another level
You got to be able play to play this respect...he put accents in a different place..its more traditional
@@asc95 maybe but Muddy Waters didn't (couldn't) play it like this
Iv'e seen only two people play this song the way it's supposed to be played, Stevie Ray Vaughn and Jimi Hendrix. Now I've seen seen three Gary Clark Jr.
You said that right man. Not many people know this
I am to young to have seen Hendrix do voodoo but I was able to see SRV do it Live Twice. And by Far SRV has done it better than anyone .
But Gary Clark has done a great job. He definitely has his own style and sound.
Still prefer SRV though
Eric gales us up there as well
Damn, you stole my reply. I am old school but I love how Clarke added that modernism (beat, licks, etc.). This cat is for real.
John Mayer?
This guy oozes coolness and deserves mad respect for how good he is.
He is just super cool.
He's channelling HENDRIX with FULL
RESPECTS...
Speechless. Love how he didn't try to match previous versions note-for-note -- he just captured the spirit and let it fly. Excellent.
No
Exactly
Pretty close to exact.
@@DonIsadick-mf3gvnot at all. voodoo child recording only has a 12 bar intro and this is way longer. plus, the drummer has an especially laid back swing which let’s the whole band sit in a different pocket.
listen to voodoo child recording then come back to this right after, you’ll probably anticipate the vocals coming in early.
Love that you say he captured the Spirit. Some people want to hear everything note for note. I prefer someone that gets the feel of the song like this amazing version of Voodoo Child...
He should have performed at halftime for the Super Bowl.
I know right 🎸
Next year....
Yes
he's to talented.
Facts
probably one of the BEST guitarist alive...
Stevie Ray Vaughan is the only person who truly played "Voodoo Child" with justice.....and now so has Gary Clark Jr🙌🏼
John Mayer did a pretty good job as well
@@IaMBatman9000 not just pretty good, really good job
I think Eric Gales does a badass version! He adds a little flavour to it too.
Check out Tom Morellos version, love it. They all have their own unique style and it's awesome to hear each incorporated into this song. Keep Rocking!!!
Let’s not forget Jimi 😆
Why voodoo child is Amazing. This song have something magical for guitar players. Only the guitar players can understand this feeling.
Yeah, The magical thing called JIMI HENDRIX!!!
No doubt about it! I played it during my acoustic performances for many years. It's like finding a cold drink of water in the desert man! Gary's groove is always unfrigging real!
This is proper.
The vibe is unreal.
Really catches his mojo wallop.
That groove? HELL YEAH!
It's this circulating "boss in town" swagger
coupled with his mojo & that SG with 90's
melting through the mix and speakers.
So KILLER!
He's most definitely right about stepping
to Voodoo Child.
No way around you better be bringing
a lot of groove and heat.
Any Jimi song is risky for any guitar player.
He's way too groovy.
Gary here..F'N WELL DONE.💯
Wn a Bass player "Sets The Groove" & Locks Down a tight solid & soulful, Funky rhythm on a Rock song as 1 Unit with the drummers bass drum riding on the "Bass line rhythm" - then & only then does the " Voodoo Child have a Childhood. Then it becomes a Special Powerful song. WHY ? & How so? Bcuz Bass is the roots of the melody & rhythm which Creates the Feel. In other words, the bass player has to facilitate and feed the guitarist like a Point Guard on a basketball team
@@mikerobinson9030 you ain't kidding.
I'm a guitarist and drummer of 30 years.
Where the hell are those bass guitar players?
Them be my dude's!!
Butter them potatoes, the gravy without the train..the train is the kick drum.
It's becoming a lost art with all this "chug"
going around.
Walk that thing, ya hear?
Gary Clark and Derek Trucks. Keeping the blues alive. Thank you.
Right on, but can really never replicate Jimi or Stevie Ray Vaughn's renditions.
They can never replicate Trucks or Clark. It's all meaningless. Rock and roll will never die.
🔥🔥🔥🔥
THE BEST COVER EVER👌
BEST EVER ❤😂
"Usually people don't touch Voodoo Child"... tells how powerful that fucking masterpiece is of a song and you better come correct when playing it. Well done GC.
SRV, Buddy Guy, Robin Trower, John Mayer, Kenny Wayne Shepard, Gary Moore, Hiram Bullock, Govt. Mule, Billy Strings, to name a few have played VDC. Hendrix himself could never match the studio version. He’s probably the most overrated guitarist in history, covering up muddy playing with electronic effects. On acoustic, unplugged, he’d have been humbled by many, especially country rockabilly players.
@@commanderthorkilj.amundsen3426 that comment isnt even worth my time to elaborate on. Maybe just maybe 1% of it is worth agreeing but nah. He did multiple rhythms on guitar along with other melodies so get out of here guy.
@@commanderthorkilj.amundsen3426 you're just an old man looking to waste his last days writing about this and being upset trying to ingrain people with what you think is right and wrong.
@@blakewalters6855 Blakey, first, it hurts realizing that not everyone idolizes your hero. But as you grow up, realize not everyone will agree with you. Secondly, Jimi was great for his time, a golden age of rock, psychedelia, etc. that I was totally immersed in, but there were others who could do what he did but were more reserved and didn’t have the narcissistic need to show it. Lastly, once you’ve seen great country, jazz, or fusion guitarists up close, display their mastery, creative musicality without the need for flamboyance and effects, then you’ve grown up. You seem to of acquire your knowledge from Wikipedia and TH-cam. Worshiping Jimi Hendrix seems like a good way to spend your little life. Now run along and bother some other adult.
@@commanderthorkilj.amundsen3426 but that's what you did to me? Bothering an adult. This is how you spend your time old man. Do you have much wisdom at all? I'm not seeing it.
Jimi and Stevie Ray are standing up and Clapping. They know that they left this in good hands.
Amen to that!
fuck outta here with that stevie ray shit. this belongs to jimi and jimi only.
I gotta think when Stevie Ray got up there Jimi was skeptical but then they jammed it out and it was all good.
@@bassreeves2410 And All Along the Watchtower belongs to Bob Dylan and Bob Dylan only. Relax dude, it's just music
Agree it is Jimi's song SRV just covered it. I can think of a number of artists that have covered voodoo chile far better than SRV.
He never disappoints! 1 in 500 million talent!
This Mr Clark. Is INCREDIBLY AWESOME
The best way to cover Hendrix is to play like yourself!!
Austin’s own ride Gary ride ❤️❤️
I don't remember the last time I saw a man so incredibly in harmony with his guitar. It isn't Jimi, but the connection between him and the instrument is out of this world. So effortless/ relaxed and an amazing take to boot. Astounding - would love to see this guy play.
And not one person bitching about it being an SG, that is how good this is.
Jimi used an SG in the studio but there is footage of him playing one live
His live shows are intense. 10/10 recommend.
Gotta introduce you to my guy and one of his versions. I think Gary’s a fan of his too!
th-cam.com/video/cFwTbsKkqxE/w-d-xo.html
Saw him at The Cains Ball Room in Tulsa up close and personal. Man it was incredible!
Jimmy would have been PROUD!
This gives me chills... Jimi would be proud
Jimi would be proud!
It has been a perfect playing for me having a lovely and awesome Fan like you, thanks for your love, I have you mostly to be thankful for 🎼🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🎼🎼🎼🎼🎼🌹
Offstage, Gary Clark seems like one of the most shy people you'd ever get to meet -- like so many great and intense guitarists, he lets his best friend do all the talking.
His Stage presence and sound quality live is second to none.. Love this man 👏🏼
He’s such a nice guy. Met him in Houston about 5 years ago.
You are on the money Rebecca.

This is as good as it gets with a Jimi cover. Incredible rendition that paid its dues to the maestro then gave his own interpretation wings.

I often visit my man Jimi's grave site here in my home Renton WA, and I played your cover while we both sat and listened...it gave me GOOSE BUMPS when i saw 2 crows standing right near me at least 4 feet away and they didnt move until your cover was complete...MR. HENDRIX approves and job well done my friend..BRAVO! REAL TRUE story...
see it s them damn crows, i always knew they are spirits, i knew it, i will leave it at that, i knew it
The other crow was Stevie Ray Vaughan. th-cam.com/video/pe3G7p1Z-xU/w-d-xo.html&ab_channel=SRVBRY

Dude is so smooth he slides uphill!
I like that analogy!!
Great comment!!!
This guys oozes cool. Damn!
Haha!
the attention to detail.. man they even got the SHAKER. THE PERCUSSION SHAKER THAT NO ONE EVER GETS. HE GOT EVEN THAT
everything about this is perfect. gary is great
Jimi Hendrix and engineer Eddie Kramer stretched studio technology to its limit and beyond when this song was recorded in 1967/68. "Voodoo Child" is a guitar standard and will always be timeless and ahead of its time.
I found out this guy exists less than 15 mins ago. I heard "come together" and said to myself... this guy's covered Hendricks and here i fn am. Awesome.
Same here!!!
Lucky me I found out about him when his first album came out and got to see him a small venue.
I hate to be that guy but: Hendrix
Have you listened to Frank Marino and mahogany rush cover of this song? Nobody plays like Frank Marino. Checkout live versions of his songs dragonfly and he's calling.
“Hendrix “ ugh, why, in this day and age of internet superiority do we still fall short of research in terms of complimenting an icon and spelling said persons name correctly?🤦🏼♂️ So dumb yet so smart.
I’m 65 years old now and I’m in a music group and I share your music with others so they can listen to your amazing talent. I’m mass communicating to the world that you are amazing and go to see you! ❤🎉
Fluid is the only word need to describe his playing ability. Just discovered him yesterday cant stop listening to his music.
tone is out of this world, Gary absolutely nails this
Gary is the modern day embodiment of classic blues.
I lik the fact that he’s doing his own interpretation, a bit slower , not too flashy and full of soul!
When he walks it down it just gives me chills, "don't be late".
Bruh!!!!! I am a hip hop head but my ear is always drawn to the rawness of 60s rock n roll. You represented on this one.
Ahhhhh! So moving, so good. 🎸🎶
Not only does he play that guitar like it wants to be played, this man's voice is honey.
Make no mistake, Hendrix was the master but Clark’s version has such a groove baby.
This is the most underrated musician alive today man is a great all time
How can I buy or get this ???? One of the coolest renditions ever.
Gary is Jimi's child!! Totally agree!
Can we all just agree that this man is a soulful funk beast on that guitar
Gary does this justice, huge Hendrix fan Jimi himself would approve I think
Oh my. Where to start. The totally feral sound of that tone! The groove is in the POCKET. The slight variation every time the riff comes around. The fills. That crash cymbal. The guy on the tambourine. This just “seethes”. Man. Just wish the video was in sync and we got to see it all.
Voodoo Child is easily the best song to improvise with. Jimi, SRV, Gary Clark Jr. etc all have a different flavor and all make it interesting.
Check out Orianthi's version while she's running back and forth on a huge stage. Awesome!
He did a good job Playing it, Glade to see a Black American Guitarist play Voo doo chile but He can't hardly Third Stone From The Sun, it's to Advanced for him to play....
Absolutely agree and they actually do it justice
I’m 52 ,I was born to 2 20 year olds in DC in 1971 & have been fortunate enough to have been exposed to a wide range of music very young without prejudice ….to me “Voodoo Child” is probably the best (certainly my favorite) rock song ever put to tape & he does a bang up job 😳🤯🤤🖤
I swear man everyone and their mums can shred nowadays but only this mans right here and Mayer can tastefully rip a proper solo in this era
And still nobody can quite play Hendrix the way he did
Look up philip sayce! He's not that we'll know but is a phenomenal player
Mayer
Kenny wayne shepherd still a G
Can't buy soul.
We create WAY TOO MANY rules when playing music.
The best way to practice is to learn a song, and then use those same chords and make a different one.
Monster. I can hear Jimi, but HE can HEAR Jimi!! One of the few guitar heroes left anymore. Trucks, Mayer, Clark Jr.....
+ Frusciante
Bonamassa, Eric Gales, Kingfish?
+ Isaiah Mitchel of Earthless and Ben Macleod of All Them Witches
This is now my favorite cover of Voodoo Chile, not to throw shade at SRV but expressing my opinion
Nature was a force of Jimi.
He is the man for this generation, in 25yrs the next great player will say they came up listening to GCJ
Me thinks Gary Clark Jr. is Jimi reincarnated. Rock on Little Brother!
Somebody plz call police. He's just killed that god damn song holly shjt.
I've been so fortunate 2 see GCjr live front row twice, once in Baldwinsville NY and then in Port Chester NY within 3 weeks from each concert, I knew he was gonna be a Grammy award winner one day soon.........And he did win multiple awards awards.....Thank u GCjr for the best dam rock& blues gig I've ever seen LIVE....✌❤🐐🎸🎸🎸🎸
Gary Clark Jr is the essence of coolness. That is a sweet Gibson SG he’s playing
99% of the time, it is WELL advised to stay clear of playing Hendrix as a guitar player/guitar band. SRV did it justice....I dig the spirit here, I like the hypnotic backing rhythm. Your playing is money....not my favorite version, but this is my favorite homage to a guitar player's inspiration and do the artist and the song justice. Way to go Gary.....I respect you, your music, your vision and in this case....your take on some music that is tough to play on stage. We ALL play Jimi....We all LOVE Jimi....taking this on takes some courage, but more importantly it requires an artist to be humble. Honor what came before.....and honor the legend that is Hendrix. This is from the heart...Bravo.
Props to the unseen metronome of a drummer & for keeping perfect energy to what GCJ was bringing. Just wow!
😮 sounds better each time I hear it!
i dont know how anyone can dislike this. incredible rendition!
I feel like if Jimi was alive he would say this is his favorite cover that captured the groove of the original
Agree with some of the earlier comments. Jimi, SRV & Gary. Keepin' it alive.
Righteous. Thundering groove and hitting the notes. Jimi's original had a feral animal roar to it, and SRV was as close to that as anyone is ever going to get in this life, but Gary Clark, man, he can hold his head up here. He did it justice.
Srv was on the space ship with jimmy ....two aliens of the guitar masters... both untouchable , everyone else does nice versions
Guy: Usually people don't touch voodoo child
SRV: hold my feather adorned hat
Mr. Gary Clark Jr. what an impressive rendition of such a revolutionary sound

try this one, a new breed of alternative
That is my uncle mickey favorite song 💞🤟❣️🤠🤩😍... Love Ceci Ceballos 💋💟💝🤘
Jimi would be so humble but proud hearing this just beautiful 💜
How do you know he would be humble about it?
That's one of his vibes I get from him he's a musical beast but has a kind shy humble way about him if you approached..
@@ayalate8 all the video footage I've seen of Hendrix he seemed like he was a kind hearted, mellow, peace loving soul. I can only assume humble is a quality he had as well.
Jimi was JIMI! EVERYBODY can have a nice time about that song. Hendrix and Stevie ray vaughan special guys
whoever shreds on a gibson SG deserves my respect :)
JAMES MARSHAL HENDRICKS crossed over in no other way seen at that time, and was impressive as he was creatfull, metal heavy, upside down, by one extraordinary left handed human being! Long live his sound!
This man drops my jaw every time I hear him play. He frees himself from this planet with his music & takes us right up with him! 💘
I swear Jimi has been reincarnated!
I order a wah pedal this morning specifically so I can play this song and TH-cam throws it in my face.
And here I am again, I find myself listening once again. I absolutely love the way his music draws you in and you cant just sit still why listening. I now have a new favorite guitar player, he just doesn't play it he becomes part of it.
Dude plays the notes on a completely different beat count than the original and still sounds bad ass. So cool and original.
This is a dope ode to Jimi and that is and amazing SG
Gary is Jimi hendrix and Bb king morphed into one ,this guy can sling some sausage with his voice and guitar skills 👌🏽👏❤🤯😘
As a musician, I read that as "B FLAT king" lol

This guy is just fucking cool....
Saw Gary and his band play several times at Croce's jazz and blues bar downtown San Diego almost 20 years ago, been a fan ever since.
Gary Clark Jr. did a Amazing job with this...He really captured what this song was about with the Shakers, and tambourines in the Back ground as if a actual voodoo ceremony was going on...Particularly when he does the verse "didn't mean to take up all your sweet time" The cadence, of the ceremony is really heard INCREDIBLE!!!!! .
This should be released on spotify!
@@val-le1cf Quit begging.
@@kommi1974 sorry for the inconvenience
Just download it using a website and play it from your phone's library... I do that with alot of youtube videos when I can't find song on iTunes or on any streaming service.
spotify sucks!
@@valmormn The desktop version of it is actually the best free version of a streaming service you can have. It doesn't make you automatically shuffle songs on your playlists so all you have to do is listen to one of two 10 second ads every 4-5 songs. You can't beat that. Hell that's way better than any other free service i've come across. Their free mobile version i'm not that big of a fan of because it makes you shuffle your playlists.
