Hey Mark. Love your videos! I've just got my first garden at the grand age of 50... (a mainly paved area, about 8 x 4m plus a shed!) making discoveries and learning every day now spring is here. The old lady who lived here previously was obviously very keen. I have an established acer, daphne, honeysuckle, daffs, peonies, tulips, hostas up a popping, a couple of clematis. I think I'm a bit obsessed. LOL. I've invested a grand total of £14 on plants. Lupin, lavender, saxifrage and thyme. 18 x lobelia. 1 x passion flower for £2 (Asda, last week) Inherited 2 x hebes and a crane's bill geranium from my mum's garden when she also moved. I've put my passion flower in a hanging trough on my railings and have twined a V shaped plant support above. It is totally against all advice but as all my plants seem to be thriving in places they are not supposed to, I'm quite hopeful. Whenever I have a query, I check your videos first. I find them super helpful, so thank you very much 🙂
Brilliant, that's a great comment, I'm 55 next week so I'm a bit ahead of you, you've invested in a great selection of plants. Actually, i don't think it's necessary to follow advice if you get results. You sound full of energy and motivation for your space which is wonderful. Loved the film, i just bought a passion flora, still small but on a sunny place 😊 a tip for snails , dried lavender under your plants , snails don’t like bitter , so they leave the plants alone and move to the neighbors 👌😃 works in my garden ❤

I was told as a child that the 3 parts sticking up were fish tails and the 5 parts encircling the tails are bread loaves. They called it the 5 loaves, 3 fish flower. Except Jesus fed the 5000 with loaves and 2 fish, but it was nice to think about.

Great informative video,thanks!👌Out of all the new plants I've brought this year for my garden,this one impresses me the most,I've put it in a big clay pot and built it a frame,it's growing so fast with it's shoots grabbing the frame,at a rate that I have to add a little bit of came to the frame every day!lol,our garden is very small,so I don't know whether to introduce it to the wall or not in case it gets out of control!😂

I have one of these growing up my house. I love it and for many years pruned it back from time to time without any difficulties or protection until the day I pruned it in full sunshine. The sap left long burn blisters on my arms that took over 3 months to heal and since then my skin reacts to even the slightest brush with a tendril. Nowadays, if I have to cut it, I wear thick sleeves, thick gloves, a hat, face mask, boots, etc. It is beautiful, stunning flowers followed by golden orange fruit, so I am reluctant to get rid of it entirely.
I've just bought a house with a very enthusiastic PF growing in the front of the house but with no guidance or design at all. To be honest I'm not sure I really like them and loved your comments about them Mark, nature really over-did herself on that one!! But of course I won't remove her (it's a 'her' I am sure of it!!😂). And tomorrow I intend to find a suitable trellis to mount her on and encourage her to more growth. Really enjoyed your video, thank you for posting!!
What an enjoyable video on passion flowers! I loved how you cared for the snails and acknowledged their importance for the ecosystem by moving them somewhere safer :] You’re voice is very soothing and this video felt like you were truly telling me about the flower. I don’t garden or anything, but I really loved learning about Biology in 10th grade last year so thank you for teaching me about this flower! I’m excited to view some of your other videos later on.

I am pretty sure that I have a job to do and have not finished that "job" yet when i was in 7th grade i was playing with a ball of mercury that came out of a thermometer that broke becuz i heated it up to hot under water...trying to fake a fever...anyway that ball was so cool. i had a bright idea to let it roll around on my tongue . it went down my throat. I thought, am i going to die? then thought, to just forget it happened and go to school. forgot and nothing bad happened when i babysat for people when I was growing up, i could not resist eating children's Tylenol and baby aspirin. I would say , JUST A COUPLE MORE.. before i knew it I ate them ALL .. felt fine when i did those things AND SO MUCH MORE, i did it in ignorance. and I have never had fear of death. I do of pain, but not death so, before you eat them, please find out if it is safe. I have eaten so many flowers without wondering if it could hurt me. found out yesterday that the blue passionflower is poisonous, i think...if i read it correctly...my babies were asking me stuff and i read it as fast as i could. @@Charis266 Passionflower leaves are edible. You can even make tea from the dried leaves. Lots of recipe ideas out there. The flower? Best avoided, as is the fruit unless you are sure. Depends on the variety. Long term exposure to liquid metal mercury is harmful, no question. Ingesting it, as you did did no apparent harm because we can expel the metallic form fairly quickly.
I love snails and try to save them from my backyard toads but I find empty shells every once in a while. Nice you’re saving them. Im growing these plants too, Passiflora Caerulea aka Royal Blue or Bahama Blue Passion Flower Vine I’m raising gulf fritillary caterpillars and this is the only plant the babies will eat to survive into a beautiful butterfly. I’m also growing milkweed to save the Monarch Butterflies So watching your vine because I’m propagating and planting seeds so hopefully by next year I can have many butterflies in my backyard garden & snails of course..

Hey Mark,how are you??..I am growing one,well 3 from cuttings,they weren't doing to well last year but i have repotted them & they are thriving now..They haven't flowered yet but they are quite small.. Here in england they are know as i think the crown of christ,something along those lines,i will have to find out again.. Really appreciate this video,i want to learn more about it.. We are fortunate to have a large garden room which is frost free and move our passion flower in there come November and bring it out once frost are unlikely. It is in an 18 inch pot at the moment and doing well.
I've had this as a potted version, in an apartment I used to rent - so I don't have it anymore. But the plant was lovely, I put it around a wire shape, something similar to a keyhole, and as it was growing, I would've made that structure more complicated, for sure. The bloom was just marvelous and it only lasted for a day. I remember the flatmate I had at the time who was at home when one of the flowers bloomed and he said it made like a popping noise? Seemed quite interesting, alas I never actually heard it myself... this video makes me want to get one again - maybe from the next month's salary 💮
@@MarksHouseandGardenUK I mean.... he said that, I never heard it, I'm not sure if he was just taking the p**s 😅 And just now I won't get one, the plants I do get to keep in my flat are called "survivors" because they really must endure my abstent-mindedness and they are fighters 🙃 so until I get a new plant and manage to keep it alive for more than a few months (besides, I do get new plants from time to time, but I need to check if they are toxic for cats, because she sometimes think of them as salad) then I will gladfully get one. Your video reminded me of that plant and it was glorious, so I might risk it sooner - and for sure buy it, just to increase its survival chances 😁 Tysm for replying! 👏

I am a bit proud (but also a bit ashamed) that each and all of my surviving plants are ...tried and tested through multiple scattered-brain moments from me and they're still here, so... not sure air plants would fit in my "squad". Thank you for suggesting though, I will look into them, who knows really... How did it do as a container plant and how large of a container did you keep it in? I might try to grow in a container on my patio so am curious if you think this plant is a good choice for that.

This flower represents The Mahabharata in Hindu culture. It is believed that the purple part represents 100 evil kauravas ( who fought against Pandavas and The Krishna in Mahabharata) 5 petals on Upper portion represents Pandavs and the top portion represents The Krishna.
Being from tropical country I don't know how to take care of this plant in cold country like denmark, as we have no sun light most of the months in winter time as well as snow for around 2-3 months. If you can please guide me about it.

Yeah, this is one of the most interesting looking plants I've come across. Tried it in a tea for the first time today. It is very relaxing. It's a shame it invades areas so easily because there are a lot of benefits from this plant.
Someday someone will wonder why someone allowed this plant to remain growing beneath that brick wall. It might take years but, eventually, it is going to crack the masonry. By that time it will be an even tougher plant. I'd use glyphosate, now. If you want a passionflower there, grow it in a container. The seed was most likely transported by a bird.
Passion flower flowers are efficient and economical because their goal is to attract pollinators and these look like they're very much attention grabbing.
Hello! How was your propagated cuttings? I found out we have one growing just outside our fence. I love the flowers and was thinking of propagating the plant. xx
They all survived very well. Two are in my mum's garden. It took root very easily and quickly. 100% success rate. The two at my mum's have already produced flowers. I'm very pleased with how they did. Mark
Hi my passion flower died back during winter. I still have the framework on my trellis. Do I have to cut it all back? This is my first time growing it and had lots of flowers. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks 😊
Personally i would wait until it starts growing. Then I'd remove small amounts of it until you get the feel for it. If it's still alive it should start growing again soon. It's not like those clamatis plants where some you have to take right back. Mark
I was wondering if you were able to propagate that Passion flower. It took me a while to get the hang of that 1. Finally was successful in my kitchen window in water. (Spring)
Can you propagate this plant? I’ve had a cutting from a friend sitting in water for more than 2 weeks. It hasn’t died but hasn’t formed any roots. The tendrils have curled up and the leaves have beads of moisture on them. It’s an amazing plant and I really want one.
Hi Susan, persevere with you cuttings but also try layering, pin a branch down onto soil whilst it remains connected to the parent plant, make a slight wound on the underside where it touches the soil. Mark
My passiflora vine grew quickly; climbed up the terrace. Its two years and not flowering yet. Does it need more nutrition in the form of compost? Islamabad Pakistan
I'm not sure really. I took some cuttings which flowered year 1. So I'm puzzled. Perhaps wait another year without pruning much then look at a feeding routine which encourages blooms not foliage? Let me know. Thanks. Mark
Excuse me, but how was the vine attached to the wall? I’d like to grow this species up a tree or a wall without a trellis but everywhere online says they grow using tendrils which would require a trellis, in spite of clearly not needing one in your case. Did you see what it was doing to hold on to the wall, was it attached like ivy? Or was it growing a different way somehow
Hi Michael, it's definitely tendrils so it does need something to climb up. Mine was climbing up simple plant wire which was randomly attached up and down the wall. That's what it was growing up. Mark
There re many species of passionflower. However, the one you have is from the Americas - Passiflora incarnata. It is a wonderful medicinal plant with fruit.

Hi there. My passionflower seems to bloom at very irregular, random times throughout the year, i often wander out and i am surprised to see a new bud appear. Because it often has blooms it gives good value. However be careful because it can run away quickly and climb everywhere.

I used to eat those flowers. loved the way they tasted. The pollen on them had a pepper flavor and the rest is hard to describe. but so good

This flower represents The Mahabharata in Hindu culture. It is believed that the purple part represents 100 evil kauravas ( who fought against Pandavas and The Krishna in Mahabharata) 5 petals on Upper portion represents Pandavs and the top portion represents The Krishna.
Being from tropical country I don't know how to take care of this plant in cold country like denmark, as we have no sun light most of the months in winter time as well as snow for around 2-3 months. If you can please guide me about it.

Yeah, this is one of the most interesting looking plants I've come across. Tried it in a tea for the first time today. It is very relaxing. It's a shame it invades areas so easily because there are a lot of benefits from this plant.
I’m hoping that the passion flower will grow in my area. I’m in Phoenix Arizona.
Someday someone will wonder why someone allowed this plant to remain growing beneath that brick wall. It might take years but, eventually, it is going to crack the masonry. By that time it will be an even tougher plant. I'd use glyphosate, now. If you want a passionflower there, grow it in a container. The seed was most likely transported by a bird.

Passion flower flowers are efficient and economical because their goal is to attract pollinators and these look like they're very much attention grabbing.
Yes i see your point. They are certainly attention grabbing. But then so is a simple daisy 😊 the passion flower seems so extravagant!
Hello! How was your propagated cuttings? I found out we have one growing just outside our fence. I love the flowers and was thinking of propagating the plant. xx
They all survived very well. Two are in my mum's garden. It took root very easily and quickly. 100% success rate. The two at my mum's have already produced flowers. I'm very pleased with how they did. Mark

Good thing about these is that u can cut them to the ground and they'll bounce back

Personally i would wait until it starts growing. Then I'd remove small amounts of it until you get the feel for it. If it's still alive it should start growing again soon. It's not like those clamatis plants where some you have to take right back. Mark

I was wondering if you were able to propagate that Passion flower. It took me a while to get the hang of that 1. Finally was successful in my kitchen window in water. (Spring)

Can you propagate this plant? I’ve had a cutting from a friend sitting in water for more than 2 weeks. It hasn’t died but hasn’t formed any roots. The tendrils have curled up and the leaves have beads of moisture on them.
It’s an amazing plant and I really want one.
Hi Susan, persevere with you cuttings but also try layering, pin a branch down onto soil whilst it remains connected to the parent plant, make a slight wound on the underside where it touches the soil. Mark
My passiflora vine grew quickly; climbed up the terrace. Its two years and not flowering yet. Does it need more nutrition in the form of compost? Islamabad Pakistan
I'm not sure really. I took some cuttings which flowered year 1. So I'm puzzled. Perhaps wait another year without pruning much then look at a feeding routine which encourages blooms not foliage? Let me know. Thanks. Mark

Excuse me, but how was the vine attached to the wall? I’d like to grow this species up a tree or a wall without a trellis but everywhere online says they grow using tendrils which would require a trellis, in spite of clearly not needing one in your case. Did you see what it was doing to hold on to the wall, was it attached like ivy? Or was it growing a different way somehow
Hi Michael, it's definitely tendrils so it does need something to climb up. Mine was climbing up simple plant wire which was randomly attached up and down the wall. That's what it was growing up. Mark

There re many species of passionflower. However, the one you have is from the Americas - Passiflora incarnata. It is a wonderful medicinal plant with fruit.

Hi there. My passionflower seems to bloom at very irregular, random times throughout the year, i often wander out and i am surprised to see a new bud appear. Because it often has blooms it gives good value. However be careful because it can run away quickly and climb everywhere.

Why not just take a piece of inch and a half or even inch and a quarter PVC and just cover the copper pipe
