Having watched and studied his game since HS and BYU, I've noticed a pattern. At every stage of his career he struggles at first. People and players alike just don't understand how important the 'system' is. If the system sucks, so do many other things with an offense and the QB is the mantlepiece. Brock Osweiler took $2 million dollars more a year passing up $72 million with Kubiak's Broncos and went to Houston to make a concrete swan dive because things didn't 'connect'. It's all about the system. That's why Payton wanted good ownership in the first place. Sean Payton is putting on a clinic.
Delusional ZW fans and football casuals alike don't understand how many horrible qbs who won't even make an nfl roster look SPECTACULAR in pre season games ESPECIALLY the last pre season game when nobody plays starters at all and nobody cares about the outcome. They just wanna get through the last fake game without any injuries and get to the real games
Common denominator with all these plays? Adequate Pass Protection. I've been behind Zach these last couple of yrs and of course have taken a lot of heat. Never said he was a superstar or even an nfl starter - but felt he makes a good backup QB. Most fans don't pay attention to Oline depth or Oline injs as it doesnt play directly into stats for Fantasy Football, but the Jets real disaster during the Saleh era so far has not been Rodgers injury or rbs injs or the old bland wrs (except wilson), but actually all about the OLine injs and lack of depth. I said to my NYC buddy and huge Jets fan last summer - the Jets can make the playoffs even with an injury to Rodgers (this was before Rodgers actually got injured) as long as the Oline stayed healthy. The Jets had depth everywhere else (I thought that at the time - but the WRs were more of a problem than I realized). Every yr they have a ton of OLine injs and never addressed the depth on the Oline. Sure enough, they started having injs at OLine. After the injury to Rodgers I still thought they could make the playoffs - by October it was over - the Oline had a lot of injuries and Zach had no chance. Behind this beat up line even Rodgers would have struggled to some degree. When Zach did have a ny second - he would flash - like the KS game in the 2nd Half where he almost led the comeback. Don't think Zach will ever be a great NFL QB - but definitely still has a shot as a top Backup who plays some big games and can really help a team win.
I don’t agree with the conclusion that he’d never be great nfl QB and would only be a good backup because his raw talent is NFL starter material. But I agree with you that the Jets might have ruined him because they not only had bad O-line throughout, but they failed to develop Zach properly. He really needed to sit and learn for a few seasons just like Jordan Love. Where a QB goes often define their fate. A rookie QB aught to never chance it by going to the Jets. And I root for the team.
Delusional ZW fans like yourself will never in your life stop mentioning that one time ZW played a good game vs KC 😂😂😂. You've all decided the other 30+ games he was AWFUL in simply do not count
@@TheHighlanderprimehow many more years are you going to talk about his "raw talent" and ignore his historical awfulness? Stop it already
I think a lot of it comes down to mindset. His first year in New York, he was "the guy," with the entire weight of the team on his back. You could see quite a few bad plays where he was clearly trying to force something to happen or to save the play on his own. Now he has a fresh start and he's not a start or "the future of the team." He has a chance to really develop as an all-around QB (including leadership and mindset).
How many backups have been through the ringer with 30 something starts, have this kind of athletic ability, proven teachability, and still just 25 years old. Why not have a young guy who’s a seasoned vet, still improving and has real play making ability. NO BRAINER.
I can understand why Sean Payton is high on him. You can really see his arm talent shine in some of these throws. Excited to see what he can become under SP.
Loved his play out of college - has an arm, he’s twitchy fast but when you’re coached by incompetent leadership, you get incompetent result. Kid will be a gem and a solid trade piece, cheap stud for someone in two years.
It depends how well he'll read the field when he has a decent OL, coaching and decent receivers - vs starters and in regular season play. 'Remains to be seen.
On the TD to Johnson the CB had no idea where the ball was or that it was thrown his way. He thought Stidham was playing QB and couldn't drive the ball that far.
That big run Zach made, the Jets coaches were literally telling him to stay in the collapsing pockets. So, the Jets would end up with 3rd and 34 instead of 1st and 10 on the strength of Zach's legs.
Maybe Zach wasn't the problem in NY. Maybe he was just a piece of a much larger puzzle in NY. He played behind a horrific OL. The play calling was atrocious. His first OC didn't seem to know how to coach him. Then Hackett comes in after an absolute nose dive in Denver with Aaron Rodgers riding in on his white stallion to save everything. Rodgers lasts 4 plays and Zach is thrown out there with the same terrible OL and even worse coaching. The poor kid never had a chance. Now, he is with a coach who will coach him, the playcalling is significantly better, the pressure is off of him, he has a pocket, and he looks like he should be the #2 and could start day one if they need him to. What a difference a change in environment and coaching can make.
I know the last pass the announcer said the safety should of hit the WR, but I think if he did, he would of drew a PI, because the Receiver had not even touch the ball. I think the Safety didn't know where the ball was, and he was just trying to jump Infront of the receiver to block the veiw, not knowing the ball was kind of thrown short and inside. Because if you look at the safety he was had his hand waved around where the receiver was bracing to catch the ball, only issue.... the ball was behind the Safety back.
This is why I am a firm believer in defensive minded coaches letting the offensive guys on his coaching staff pick the QB’s for their franchise cuz defensive minded HC’s always put project QB’s in bad situations. Payton is actually probably the best coach in the league to fix Wilson’s problems and help him develop to a point where he can now go anywhere and produce even as a backup.

@@AdamB34 that Oline is fucking dog 💩 that’s why lol. Doesn’t matter if Brady is under center - a bad Oline will kill your quarterback. It’s the most important part of the offense to the quarterback because if you don’t have time in the pocket nothing else matters, you won’t get a pass off.
Zach was a victim of the NY Jets and their lack of good offensive coaching / development.
Will Zach Wilson ever become a starting QB again?
No, this is the NFL equivalent of a stopped clock that is correct twice a day. It is still stopped.
Having watched and studied his game since HS and BYU, I've noticed a pattern.
At every stage of his career he struggles at first. I've seen this all the way back to his Boise State days (he joined BSU before flipping to BYU). But with time, he learns then dominates with his God given arm talent.
I would actually be shocked if he didn't find the right opportunity at QB1. He's still young but has a lot of grit and game experience after the disaster in NY.
I hope he finally sits, watches and learns this season under Payton, Lombardi, Mills & Co.
Props on your new gig. Great interview with SP💪
How would you rate his arm talent Chase?
If he does, I hope the Broncos get a 3rd or 4th for him...minimum. :D
No. Way too slow in decision making and getting rid of the ball.
Maybe not a “starting” QB, but he will get a shot at some point
Been waiting for a Zach Wilson breakdown!
Fantastic breakdown. I look forward to the next one
Zach is playing with a lot of confidence, no doubt. But let's give credit to the offensive line. They were solid, giving him time to go through the progression too. With the Jets, he was constantly under duress.
The Jets never had a decent & consistent o line. Not only couldn't they pass block, but they stunk at run blocking while Zach was there. Just awful. I played right guard & tight end in high school -- doesn't make me a football genius, but I watch the line more than most people do.... Also, my teenage daughter is a big Jets fan and I watch all of their games with her. That's the context of my comment. Is Zach amazing? No. But the o line was worse than he was in NY. That's really bad.
Greetings from Missouri.
Go Broncos!!!
Very nice analysis. Zach had two bone-head pass plays at the beginning and then settled down and played a very good game.
I’ve seen the top QBs make bad throws in games and recover quite frequently. So this is nothing new. I’ve been arguing with Jets fans and radio hosts who kept exclusively blaming Zach Wilson for everything wrong with the Jets. To me, it was blatantly obvious that the Jets failed him and were clueless about developing him properly.
@@TheHighlanderprimeand it's a 100% guarantee you LOST all those arguments but still walked away telling yourself you won 😂😂😂. It's funny because you're exclusively blaming EVERYTHING AND EVERYONE but ZW yet you truly think you're being objective
@@AdamB34 Foolish and trollish reply. You’re the only one laughing immaturely with these emojis.
When a raw QB goes to a team, the team is responsible for finding the proper way to bring him along. The bad organizations fail such young QB every time. Such was the Jets. Lazy casual fans with zero football acumen like yourself always go for the low hanging fruit by blaming the student for his teachers' failures every time.
Of course Zach Wilson played badly because he wasn’t ready to be thrown into the fire and play according to the Jets’ urgency to win now specially with a bad O-line all 3 seasons, a bad and clueless head coach with a terrible OC. And yet they expected Zach Wilson to play like he was ready and had zero impediment.
You’re the loser fool in this argument. Your comment came across like it written by a 14 year old.
Best QB/Play breakdown analysis I've seen. Great job Chase!!
I think he has one of the most superior arms in the league. Funny how going to the right organization can make you.
The offense just looks smoother with Bo and Zack at QB.
Sean payton and his staff know how to develop and its showing.
Agreed!
Love your content Chase, always so insightful.
THE SEAN PAYTON EFFECT
He's literally never developed a good qb as a head coach lol. Brees was already a pro bowler before Payton coached him.
@AdamB34 brees was average before NO. Payton made Winston go 5-2, made Bridgewater go 6-0 or something and Taysom Hill 7-2 as starters. Simean went like 0-6. There was no helping that guy. 😀
@@PoboyMusic Brees was literally a Pro Bowler before he played for Sean Payton. Jameis Winston, Teddy B and Taysom were never good but if you want to be technical about it Teddy B was also a pro bowler before he played for Sean Payton
@@PoboyMusic you know you're desperate to pretend you have a point when you're trying to convince people Jameis Winston, Taysom Hill and Teddy B are good 🤣🤣
@AdamB34 no the point is that they aren't good but sean payton made them win.
It's nice to see an actual QB that played at the NFL level doing breakdowns of QB play because it seems like you're authentic about it. The this played sucks vs quarters had me cracking up.
He was with the Jets. You can tell, from his postgame, that while he is definitely supportive of and happy for Nix, he's envious of the situation Nix has been put in.
Zach was destined to fail with the New York Browns. I truly hope this rehab pays off for him. He's a talent that the league deserves to see in a good place.
(Also, enjoyed the cameo on Schlereth and Evans, sir!)
Jets fan here. Yes I honestly believe that him or The Darnold could have been franchise QBs. 2021 we actually had a good OC. But besides that nothing has gone in his favor.
There was a time not too long ago you could've said that about Texans qbs, Bengals qbs, Bills qbs, Dolphins qbs, Browns qbs, Jags qbs etc... it's amazing how quickly a franchise can turn around when they don't draft scrubs like Mark Sanchez, Geno Smith, Sam Darnold or Zach Wilson 😂😂😂

Great analysis as always, Chase. Zach had a great game and can play well if behind a good offensive line.
I can see the Broncos holding onto Zach and Stidham and trading one when another team’s QB gets injured. That team can have either one for the right price and will give up more than they should because they will be desperate.
No he can play well if playing vs guys who will be selling cars next week 😂😂😂
Just recently stumbled across your channel, I enjoy your analysis and look forward to more through the season. Zach looked pretty good. We don't know when he'll play again in a game, but if he's our #2, I'm glad he had a game like this to build his confidence. He may sit on the bench for quite a while (we hope so anyway, that means Nix is playing well and staying healthy). I guess we'll know pretty soon how it's going to play out, but it wouldn't surprise me if he beat out Stidham.
He was the same guy just scapegoated. Played behind 17 different lineman. 9 played 2+ spots on the line.
It's cute you think the difference between being the worst starting qb in the nfl and being good is simply a better oline 😂😂😂

My opinion Wilson won the 2nd QB position, I would feel comfortable knowing he is in the stables if for some ungodly reason Bo needs to be replaced
Bro... be couldn't even be a below average qb on a team with a top 5-10 rb, top 10-15 wr and an elite defense. He literally couldn't even play his way into being a top 25 qb with all that lol. Stop it already
That comeback throw from the 50 to the 20 was a absolute ROCKET.
NO BRAINER.
How many qbs were historically bad for 3 straight years then lost a qb battle to a project rookie qb in year 4 and then became good qbs?
I can understand why Sean Payton is high on him. You can really see his arm talent shine in some of these throws. Excited to see what he can become under SP.
I swear it feels like I’m the only Zach Wilson believer … tellin yall Zach gon be a problem inna minute ‼️🙌🏾🤷🏾♂️
Yes, for the team he's actually playing for.
Nice breakdown CD, I appreciate how you always get these out super quick! Is there any chance all 3 denver QBs stay?
We will see but prob not
Loved his play out of college - has an arm, he’s twitchy fast but when you’re coached by incompetent leadership, you get incompetent result. Kid will be a gem and a solid trade piece, cheap stud for someone in two years.
It depends how well he'll read the field when he has a decent OL, coaching and decent receivers - vs starters and in regular season play. 'Remains to be seen.
Keep Zach & put Stidham up for trade. Wilson was picked early in the draft for a reason.
Stiddy will be #2
If Bo goes down for 3-4 games who do you think will give the Broncos the best chance to win ... Stiddy or Zach?
On the TD to Johnson the CB had no idea where the ball was or that it was thrown his way. He thought Stidham was playing QB and couldn't drive the ball that far.
how many qb2s in this league won a AFC player of the week award last year ...how many qb2s does chase daniel do videos for ...
He failed in NY because of the god awful play calling and OL. Happy that he got a fresh start somewhere else.
seeing him smiling and with a lightness in his spirit, made me happy for him. Sean Payton is the QB whisperer bruh
For a preseason game, it was fun to watch.
That big run Zach made, the Jets coaches were literally telling him to stay in the collapsing pockets. So, the Jets would end up with 3rd and 34 instead of 1st and 10 on the strength of Zach's legs.
1 big reason is the O Line protects him. In NY he had no time due to lousy protection.
You what interesting Chase is that I notice they force CJ Shroud to go under center a lot. To make sure his footwork was rhythm with his receivers.
IT WAS THE COACH... I have been telling everyone that...
Great breakdown, but curious why you think he's not a potential starter in the league at some point?
In a few years ZW could have a Geno Smith type of resurgence for a different team cause Bo Nix is the man for Denver.
Where was this Zach Wilson? with the Jets. Enough said.
Loved this breakdown!! Great job, as if you don't have the expertise lol.
Zach showed that he's QB1. All this talk of "chance at QB2" is laughable.
Amazing what an O line can do for you...
Good OL makes all the difference for QB pressure.
That’s exactly what happened. And yes, that would have been a PI for sure.
Zack for 2nd position, no disrespect on Stidham
This is why I am a firm believer in defensive minded coaches letting the offensive guys on his coaching staff pick the QB’s for their franchise cuz defensive minded HC’s always put project QB’s in bad situations. Payton is actually probably the best coach in the league to fix Wilson’s problems and help him develop to a point where he can now go anywhere and produce even as a backup.
Amazing what a good offensive line can do.
Broncos fans cried when payton got him. I guess people don't realize payton makes every qb better

Good question! Thank you!
The Jets O-line made an open door look like a brick wall. He could rarely even hit his back foot on a 3 step drop before he was getting hit. Yet as is the norm in New York, no matter what the REAL issue, blame the failures on the QB.

Zach Wilson looked good during pre-season last year as well, fans had hope the he was learning to play better while under Rodgers. But ya, it's pre-season.
I mean… no he didn’t really lol his best game was TB and he didn’t go through his reads nearly as fluidly and throw a lot of short passes. He looked better but this by far better imo.
