    my filipino aunt told me that when she first ate balut with her family, they would close the lights just for her to get used to eating the duck inside. Now she's the number one eater of balut in our family. hahahaha

      It's the same experience I had with my first balut. My friend brought me to a balut vendor whose selling his balut in the dark so people (who prefer not seeing what they are eating) squat and enjoy eating.

    I'm half Filipino and grew up with balut. The embryo scared the shit outta me as a 7year old and it still does

    It has 3 parts and the bonus "broth"
    The broth is basically like the amniotic fluid. Tastes like chicken soup and the most "tolerable" as most would say.
    The egg white that has hardened and become rubbery. Most people discard it.
    The yolk. The yellow veiny part. Tastes just like a hard boiled yolk but less crumbly and more wet.
    The chick. Can be of any size depending on the maturity. The texture also varies with maturity. Can feel like from a small nugget of meat to a complete chick, bones and feathers and all but wet.

    I remember the first time they made me eat balut which they deadass told me that it was hard boiled egg. Guess what? The moment I opened the egg, I saw the duck’s head which scared the shit out of me.

    When I was pregnant in 2018, I had a strong craving for balut despite never having it before. I went to my local Asian market and bought one, brought it home and prepared it. Well.. I did look at it and I couldn’t eat it when I saw the little duck 😂 hoping to give it another try soon 🤞🏽

    You can say I grew up eating this when times were real hard. Just as you said it's like chicken broth me my mom brother and dad would enjoy this silently, and now that we're better of we still have this for it's nostalgic feeling and not forget where we came from. ❤️

      Lucky you. Times were too hard for me to the point that balut is a treat. Eggs are cheaper. Even salted duck eggs were cheaper than balut, last I've checked.

    I’m usually ALL for trying different foods deemed “weird” to some people. But this, brains, and eyeballs are the only thing I cannot bring myself to eat. I just can’t. I love trying new things but this is not one of them. I’m sure it’s super delicious but I can’t do it

      Same. I don't eat anything with eyes, brains, or edible bones. And I don't eat anything boiled alive. Balut and multiple types of seafood are on my "yuck" list.
      But you know what, to each their own! I'm experimental in other ways and I'm eager to try foods and food combinations that are different than what I grew up with.

      The yoke is so creamy and with hot sauce is amazing, but unfortunately, people who have never left their country may think it is gross and very inhumane, but they are just out of touch and uncultured. I encourage people to try balut because you shouldn’t judge by having someone taste it for you
      Again everyone’s taste buds are different and it is wrong for you to make someone miss out on a food they may enjoy

    I just like that you’re enjoying Balut & brave & considerate enough to show how to eat it & enjoy it. I personally had the broth & the yellow yolk part but not the rest. Saw it as a kid & just didn’t think I like it visually or something to consume.

    I struggle enough with meat and get grossed out when I see a vein or fat, but I'm glad you enjoy it and I'm happy you're sharing it with everyone! It really helps to normalize foods like this. And some people may see this and try it and learn they love it! I'm sure it tastes good.

    the "soup" that she mentioned actually smells quite fishy, you definitely don't want that on your hand so the way to go (in my opinion) is to crack the shell with a knife, bust it open, drop it into a bowl and eat it with a spoon.

    I’m going to be honest, the first few seconds of this clip a “no” immediately popped into my head but when I then proceeded to actually think about it I figured I’d be really hypocritical to dismiss this because it feels “gross” when I happily eat both eggs and poultry as well as enjoy plenty of foods like pickled herrings that other people consider unappetising. I suggest that anyone who thinks this is gross would evaluate themselves

    my fun way of eating this is that i drink a bit of the soup then add vinegar inside. i would softly shake the balut to mix w the soup and then drink it. tastes rlly great and u get to flavor the balut meat a little, but i usually still dip the meat in the vinegar

    I really like balut. At first I was hesitant to eat it but as I grew older I saw a lot of western people making fun of it so I tried it just to spite them and it’s really good. The soup and yolk is the best part. The fetus kind of irks me so I usually discard it but if it’s small enough I’ll eat it

    What I learned about my Coach is that you should eat it all at once. Pour sinamak in it and put some asin then you can chug it all in at once. Then I just use the remainin eggshell to serve as a cup to pour some sinamak again and drink it to add a little bit more taste.

    I'm glad you still decided to showcase our culture despite all this not so good comments on people eating balut. I saw one vietnamese who also does food content and she ate a balut on her channel and so many were disgusted and being rude to her. I know not everyone will like balut but people should just respect each other's preferences no one is forcing you to watch the vid or eat balut it is your decision to stay and see what it looks like.This vid made me want to eat balut again haha.     When I wait to Thailand I tried one of those become I thought it was just some eggs but then the lady who sell that told me that it was duck embryos and started to explain and that I should not eat it if I don't have the stomach for it ( she was so sweet) long story short I inhaled 3 of it, it's super good

    I grew up with some friends who’s parents were from Cambodia, and got to try this back in middle school-It was so good. I haven’t had it in ages, man.

    Maybe one day I'll get brave enough to try it. I've also incubated a lot of eggs and investigated so many to see what went wrong and I might be too familiar with partially developed eggs in a setting where they are most definitely not appetizing at all. Idk. We'll see. I also still struggle with the idea of eating insects, but I want to change that.
