LOVE being transported into your space and time. The clarity of the video work, the subtle soundtrack, the quirky editing, and especially the narration are all so integral to this experience which is so hard to find in other media. Nice work as always!!!
I've got to say that I thought you were just a guy that liked lakes. The editing is epic, the shots you've kept in and for the duration you've kept them in for are perfect. It feels like I'm camping with you. Then there's the music and journey. It's absurd how you can make a relaxed camping vid be so entertaining. I'm currently binge watching all vids.
Just taking a break from editing, to watch your latest adventure. We both thought it was mighty impressive just making it to your trip. I think I would have turned around and started the trip a day later. So much work winter camping. Quite a contrast between the Yukon river footage we're working through currently, where it's 30 degrees with thick forest fire smoke at times, to your -20 on frozen Northern Ontario lakes. Great trip and edit. Appreciate all the hard work that goes into these trips. Thanks for the break.
I like the stars. I like the blue sky, the birds, the snow, the tent, the firewood. I am scared by the tent on the ice. I am spellbound by your embrace of the quiet solitude. Thank you for this. Every time I commit to one of your offerings I find something new. I don't know how you do it. Thank you.
Boy did I luck out, just sat down to take a break after doing more chores than I cared to, and found this video all ready for me to watch. Another great one. ✌🏽
The love and passion you have for both filming and spending time with nature just oozes out of these incredible videos. Thank you for both filming and sharing your experiences, they are a real gift.
Another masterclass video…your editing skills are once again on display…truly separating you from other similar channels of this genre. Thank you John for this amazing content you share with all of us! Cheers 🍻🤗🏕️🌄
I used to try to explain that sound that the ice made at the 31:00 mark to people, cross between a boom and a howl. I miss hearing that, no more winter nights at the cabin for me. Always look forward to a new video, thanks so much for your dedication.
Great video, Jon. So beautiful in the quiet of winter. The sound of the ice "talking" took me back to my childhood in Maine during the winters. Talking ice is one of my favorite sounds. Thank you
That 1st. night was absolutely Magical. Made me want for more. God in all it's Glory. Really enjoyed. Thanks for making me feel so warm, and comfortable Jon.
Everything with you is So Perfect...the background music, the pov filming, your opinions of the world....PERFECT. Two small questions, if I may: 1. What about a treat trip with Xander (but dont forget your food..hagaha) 2. No fishing this trip? 3. Does it feel different to venture as a married man?
Thank you so much :) Meeting up with Xander in a couple weeks! No time for fishing the first couple of days and then it was too cold for my liking. No different really, felt like we were married all along to me :)
RE: Tires...Thanks for all the advice. We do have a 4x4 tacoma with studded winter tires but Erin was out of town with it. I've done a ton of winter driving in this car (to be honest I feel it handles snow better than the truck) and never had an issue but I'll keep some chains in the car next time
Hi Jon, just ordered my set of chains for my Tacoma. Very impressed with the selection at www.google.com/aclk?sa=l&ai=DChcSEwiBi46Rq-ODAxU6cUcBHfwbAWEYABAAGgJxdQ&ase=2&gclid=CjwKCAiA75itBhA6EiwAkho9e8vw32ofoUZABOFp9XJuGlLIcsBiPCN7eTlcLSZtijo-xibTwYx5PhoC4kIQAvD_BwE&sig=AOD64_2aLyUa6cS-tacHBT3ZlGssZGbdIQ&q&nis=4&adurl&ved=2ahUKEwiVloeRq-ODAxVBkIkEHRcRAdkQ0Qx6BAgDEAE. Or Google Canada chains.ca. had some pretty scary hills after that recent ice storm. Still slippery from it. Good luck.
Hello Jon! Great to see you back out in the hot tent. I love watching these long trips, makes ya feel like we're right there with you. Everything is just so beautiful all blanketed with snow. Looking forward to your next one, keep them coming. Stay safe and warm...tell Erin "hello". Big ((Hugs)) from Texas!!🤗
Jon great job as always. I love all the time you spend capturing the landscape shots, and the night shots along with the sounds. Each is its own piece of art. So beautiful. You are very talented. Cheers.
Again, great video documenting of what it is like to be out in the cold in this part of the country. You capture everything I find beautiful living here, the ice sounds, the firewood choices, use of snow, the tools and techniques you use, all of it reflects your knowledge and experience. Thank you for doing this. I'm tempted to go winter camping even at my age!!
While I enjoy so much about your videos, I always especially enjoy the snippets of how the birds or animals endure their surroundings. Watching the birds enjoy the seeds (?) from the tree was a real treat in how nature survives during the winter. Thanks again for another quality video!
Been years since I've heard that ice settling sound and I live on a lake! Extremely cold (for me) today with a hgh of 7F but a low of 0F this evening. Worry since my sons are ice fishing guys and one went out on the lake yesterday. Sketchy weather with lots of rain and then snow piled on top. Was very heavy shoveling yesterday. Thank goodness for my neighbor and his machine to finish up the driveway. Today will need to travel to the grocery store. So mundane compared to your adventures. Love the video and the glorious cliffs you showed us. And that bird trying its best to eat the seeds. Nice shooting. Thank you.
Great video as always Jon, and thanks for showing the car footage on the icy road - we've all been there, so seeing it makes it all that much more relatable that trips don't always go as planned. Cheers mate.
The only thing missing from this almost perfect trip was not seeing the Northern Lights. Amazing as always, the cover your water source with snow was something I just learned so thank you.
@Losta Lakes. I watched all your You Tube videos over the past recent weeks. Thanks you for a relaxing, wholesome and intriguing time. I have you in my bookmarks for the You Tube channels that I have viewed so that I keep up to date with yours every few days. Thanks again for everything.
@@LostLakes LoL... You deserve it. It's apparent that you work your butt off filming and editing all your videos and your calmness could be used as a model for some people. LoL >@^_*@
Just discovered your channel recently and am really enjoying it! When I was just 18 a friend and I took a three month long canoe trip. We started in October so also had a heated tent with a wood stove like yours. Ours was an 8’x8’ canvas wedge tent that we could just barely stand up in. It was a great adventure for sure that changed our lives! We were inspired by the great north woods outdoor writer Calvin Rutstrum. I hope you have read his work as you remind me of him! Anyway, I’ll keep watching and occasionally comment. Keep at it and be safe!
I watch these videos and have to say they are brilliant videography, editing and planning. Your skills are unmatched. I see big things for you and your wife. And want to say we appreciate you bringing these sights, these sounds of nature. Keep on capturing and documenting these trips. The map is something I like the most the progress is cool to see after each camping segment. Thanks for letting all of us experience something like this. Bucket list has added one paddle trip that would be a lifetime memory.
Your videos have helped re-spark my love of winter camping. I did this quite a bit when I was a kid in the eighties. I wish we had recorded some of those days. Anyway, probably wont spend 5 days in the woods like this but I have been sleeping out in my yard with a tarp and fire pit a few nights this winter. It's a really nice day here today, 7 degrees and snowing lightly. Thanks again for the videos.
I'm just testing first hot tent and stove and can't wait to get out with it. I need that snowy winter silence. Nothing quite like it! Thanks for the another great video.
Awesome Jon! I live just 70 km under the 49th parallel, our border and the weather is so crazy this year here. Great job documenting. Love your channel, content and dealing with climate change factors.
The quality of the video is superb. What ever you are using to capture it, don't change a thing. Being in the woods by yourself is a wonderful experience. It's kind of nice to go out and see the tracks and see what might be in the area, especially when there is no one else around. For torn sleeping bags I started by stitching the tears but switched to tenacious tape. It holds and is easy to apply. Thanks for the video, it was a pleasure to watch.
Glad all your chores are done and now you share with us all the stellar absolute beauty of a Canadian winter day has to offer and no one else is there to see it but you. Thanks for being there and sharing it with us who are still bound to being inside and working all day and would not see such beauty that is out there in the natural world except for the fact that Jon is out there doing his work and collecting these unforgettable images of pristine beauty. Thanks so much.
Thank you for this amazing video. I enjoyed every second of it, and really made me come to a peaceful space. Hope to see a lot more of these art pieces. Have a nice day everybody!
some of the shots are as good as any nature documentary I've seen. Just stunning. And I'm glad to see how strong you are and how much progress your knee has made. Thanks for the adventure.
Great video as always. Like when you put the names of the birds, as I have never seen them before. Thanks for providing us with something great to watch.
Thanks Jon, going to follow your advise and get out of the city for several days. I won’t be solo camping like you, but I will have the amazing stars (if I’m lucky)! Great video. Just a word of caution for all the other Hot Tenters; when you put liquids or snow on a hot stove surface, you may be causing 'Pitting' which can eventually lead to CO issues. Safe travels in 2024...

thanks for this!! my wifey will be mad I watched it while she is working... haha . we got -37C this morning and -30 for high today in central Alberta so it's good day for some Lost Lakes videos and sourdough prep.

Great video. Just a word of caution for all the other Hot Tenters; when you put liquids or snow on a hot stove surface, you may be causing 'Pitting' which can eventually lead to CO issues. Safe travels in 2024...
Interesting Paul, thanks for that info
Nice footage on the birds!
I look forward all year to your cold weather camping trips.
the shots of those redpoll feeding, just sublime
