Speaking frankly only in Morrowind artifacts feel like real artifacts. Skyrim and Oblivion just give you good-looking souvenirs, but not powerful weapon.
Lots of them have been "used" or depleted throughout the franchise. The Heart of Lorkhan being destroyed had to have weakened Kagrenacs tools given their direct power connection to the manipulation of the heart. Auriels bow is depleted during Daggerfall due to all endings being canon which is why it's so unremarkable in Morrowind. All this alongside how different TES mechanically is after Morrowind does truthfully make artifacts feel weaker as well.

Gotta be total contrarian copium, what qualifies you to talk about game design other than listening to schmucks on TH-cam rave about it for hours on end? Got a good feeling neither you, me nor those literal who's have worked on any project of any significant magnitude.
Genuinely curious as my comment really had nothing to do with the design, I just pointed out the canon reason the artifacts are so "inconsistent" across games and it's getting so tiring to see peoples knee-jerk emotional reaction without elaborating
@@dillonmoore9810well, they have a point actually. They’re not real artifacts anymore, but at once there is an explanation either way which shows how they get hindered over time and because of usage as a nice excuse.

Expanding and exploring the ES universe with each new installment isn't retconning or a nice excuse, it's how writers naturally evolve the franchise while introducing new aspects to the story. Sorry you feel that way. I fully understand people are able to have different perspectives on TES but the effort behind-the-scenes seems to be easily missed.
Imo there's a decent variety of artifacts unique to Skyrim on top of revamped legacy content that're still fun to play with and use.
Spellbreaker, Sanguine Rose, Auriels Shield, Ebony Blade, Bloodskall Blade, Dawnguard Runehammer, Masque of Clavicus Vile, several of the Dragon Mask artifacts and several more I fail to mention that I've used fairly extensively myself just from skimming UESP.
I love how Volendrung changed throughout the series, progressively looking more menacing as it was corrupted by the daedric prince that claimed it.
And then ESO had the Skyrim version and ruined it
What really amazed me is that the name of weapon maybe the same but they gave it different design on each series (III/IV/V). Great Comparison bro ❤❤❤

big thing I don't like is some of them make no sense how they are in multiple games. Like Auriel's bow has been in the frozen vale since the fall of the snow elves according to skyrim so how is it in morrowwind. same with the staff of magnus.
daedric weapons at least can be explained by the daedra reclaiming the weapon.

@@OponisAdethuses Keening is in og Skyrim you get it from a side quest in the college of winterhold, the enchantment only works like one or two times though for lore reasons

Man oblivion got the broken end of the stick most of these look awful or generic
They are supposed to be strong artefacts made by powers resembling that of deities they shouldn't look like a reskin of a common weapon
