Thanks for watching, liking, and subscribing! What are some Metroidvanias you would recommend to everyone that are maybe lesser known? Can you back up any of these on today's list?
My list, in no particular order, of top tier MVs on Switch: Hollow Knight Metroid Dread Ori and the Will of the Wisps Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night Blasphemous & Blasphemous 2 Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown Astalon: Tears of the Earth Unsighted Afterimage Gato Roboto Islets HAAK Momodora: Reverie Under the Moonlight The Messenger Yoku's Island Express Super Metroid & Metroid Fusion (on NSO) Monster Boy and the Cursed Kingdom Deedlit in Wonder Labyrinth Vigil: The Longest Night Steamworld Dig 2 Haiku the Robot and thats all I can think of at the koment bur im sure theres others I liked. Here are some that either didn't do it for me (but might for you) or I havent played yet: Ender Lilies Guacamelee! 1 & 2 Touhou Luna Nights La Mulana 1 & 2 Dandara: Trials of Fear Sundered Moonscars Ghost Song Salt and Sanctuary Salt and Sacrifice And, lastly, here are a few that dont run well on Switch and one that will crash constantly and erase your saves: - Aeterna Noctis (performance, crashes) - Grime (performance) - Souldiers (crashes, save wipes) - The Last Faith (performance) Apparently these are 4 GREAT MVs but not worth playing on Switch. Grime hasnt been out long, so it may yet be able to be patched to an accepable point, but the rest have been out long enough that there is very little hope. Also, several of the games in your list were strictly Action Platformers and one was a Roguelite, but I guess they are all at leasr Metroidvania - adjacent.
Solid list. Love the Astalon love. It's seriously one of the best MVs out there. Someone may have pointed this out, but Vigil: The Longest Night was delisted. But it's back up on Steam, so it's only a matter of time before it's back on the eShop. Hopefully...
THANK YOU for this video! Exactly why you're my favorite channel curator. I was just wishing someone would make a "deep cuts" Metroidvania video after seeing another channel release yet another genre video that highlights the usual Hollow Knight / Ori / Metroid Dread / Blasphemous entries. All great, but there are so many more that deserve attention, especially for those of us that have already experienced those.
Still no word on If or When Vigil the longest night will be coming back to the switch Eshop. But I’m praying It recently came back to steam after months of not being allowed to sell the game
I've heard so many good things about Iconoclast, I think I might finally put it on my wishlist. I must say I love the art style, but have always been a bit worried about its difficulty. But maybe I'm overthinking it.
I would add Afterimage, Astral Ascent (though maybe not a metroidvania), and Ghost Song. I know that Ghost Song received mixed critics. In my case, I loved it, its music, story, world design... The entire experience :) it reminds in my mind as a special memory
Astral Ascent is not a Metroidvania, it's a Roguelite. Some other Roguelites that mistakenly get called Metroidvanias simply because they are 2D games with platforming: Dead Cells Rogue Legacy I & II A Robot Named Fight and there might be others, but those immediately come to mind.
The new prince of Persia: The lost crown should be here. Its only been out for a few weeks sure, but its a great MV and probably will make alot of top lists of 2024. Super thight and high quality and lets you play as casual or hardcore as you want.
Aeterna noctis easily the hardest game ever made. Especially on noctis mode Probably one of the best metroicvania hidden gems tbh People complain about crashes on the switch. But it’s been patched even recently to perform much better
Metroidvanias are one of my favourite genres, but I still don't think any game has surpassed Super Metroid, the Daddy! I feel like an addict whose always trying to recapture that first high... Perhaps this list holds the answer somewhere?
I might be in the minority but as a lover of metroidvania’s I think the Mummy Remastered is OVERRATED. I would recommend Narita Boy, Steam World Dig 2, Islets, Monster Sanctuary, and Gato Roboto as some fun MV’s
Gato is fantastic, honestly I skipped Steamworld thinking it was a little more obvious and then Islets, monster, and Narita were on my list. I intend to follow this up if the reception is decent
Some excellent choices here. Specifically loved Dandara, Aggelos and The Mummy Demastered. Iconoclasts... I got stuck in, which sucks, because i was absolutely loving it. I should just watch awalkthrough, but i'm too proud. A Robot Named Fight... I played once, and realized it was a rougelite and never picked up again. Maybe I need to go back to it.
Found a couple I was on the fence about but will def download thanks to your recommendations. Have you tried Phoenotopia or Elliot Quest? They are more in the adventure genre but I thoroughly enjoyed and feel they don’t get a lot of attention. Thanks for the video!!
Afterimage was a metroidvania I loved way more than I planned. I kind of got it on a whim and that game is so fun. A new one I’ve mentioned that I want to try is Worldless
I want to get Lost Epic but I can’t get it until it goes on sale. I’m getting Unicorn Overlord first. I pre-ordered it. If Lost Epic goes physical. I’m 1000% getting it. Afterimage is on my list too. I just have to wait. Great list btw. Keep up the good work!
I have most of the games in the list, with Timespinner and Haiku The Robot being two notable exceptions, but I will fix that. Thanks for the great video. And maybe give Catmaze a try if you haven’t already, it’s a nice little metroidvania that does everything well and packs great controls, great music and visuals and a surprisingly good story. And it’s shorter than the average metroidvania, too 👌🏼
Just a warning about Cathedral. While I found the difficulty perfect throughout the game the last boss has such a spike I never finished it. Still very much worth a play and I loved it but just a warning for people that might be bothered by that. As for games not mentioned the Salt games are good though I never played the second I will eventually get it on sale. The first game let's you build your character in a lot of ways and has a really good ng+. Also Death's Gambit Afterlife.
Kunai is a great “metroidvania”, though it’s just a tad shorter than I typically prefer games in this genre to be (not as short as Gato Roboto, tho!). Would the Teslagrad games count as “metroidvania” games? Oh, and The Messenger is an absolute MUST PLAY-one of the best games on the eShop!
I'm missing Lost Epic and Astalon, the rest I have. Momodora is a great Metroidvania and I actually had fun with Hunters Legacy which I never hear anyone talk about, good for cat lovers and not too difficult.
Someone else pointed that out, seems it's not any unfortunately and the devs are working to get It back on. Appears arguments with the publisher. When I put these together I look at my library, not the eshop sadly
Thanks for watching, liking, and subscribing! What are some Metroidvanias you would recommend to everyone that are maybe lesser known? Can you back up any of these on today's list?
Excellent job as always, you make things simple for me when I need the best game

Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night
Blasphemous & Blasphemous 2

Astalon: Tears of the Earth

The Messenger
Yoku's Island Express
Super Metroid & Metroid Fusion (on NSO)
Monster Boy and the Cursed Kingdom
Deedlit in Wonder Labyrinth
Vigil: The Longest Night
Steamworld Dig 2
Haiku the Robot
and thats all I can think of at the koment bur im sure theres others I liked. Here are some that either didn't do it for me (but might for you) or I havent played yet:
Ender Lilies
Guacamelee! 1 & 2
Touhou Luna Nights
La Mulana 1 & 2
Dandara: Trials of Fear
Sundered
Moonscars
Ghost Song
Salt and Sanctuary
Salt and Sacrifice
And, lastly, here are a few that dont run well on Switch and one that will crash constantly and erase your saves:
- Aeterna Noctis (performance, crashes)
- Grime (performance)

Vigil 8:48 is no longer on the eshop... whattt
Unsighted is a true indie hidden gem... very very good. Dont let the time mechanic scare you off, you can play the game without it on.
Solid list. Love the Astalon love. It's seriously one of the best MVs out there.
Someone may have pointed this out, but Vigil: The Longest Night was delisted. But it's back up on Steam, so it's only a matter of time before it's back on the eShop. Hopefully...
Of course right from the start of the switches life I tried cavestory, brilliant. Dandara and The Mummy are both great metrovanias

I loved Ghost Song, Astral Ascent just went into my library, I'm looking forward to checking that one out
@@SwitchCorner I started Ender Lilies yesterday, that I had bought after watching your review
Thanks for the videos ❤️
Astral Ascent is not a Metroidvania, it's a Roguelite. Some other Roguelites that mistakenly get called Metroidvanias simply because they are 2D games with platforming:
Dead Cells
Rogue Legacy I & II
A Robot Named Fight
and there might be others, but those immediately come to mind.
I would argue for robot but agreed on dead cells and rogue legacy (incredible games though!)
A Robot Name Fight is absolutely a Metroidvania.@@SwitchCorner
Timerspinner and Iconoclasts are absolute bangers, highly recommend
Thank you for talking about Iconoclast and Unsighted! They are some of my favorite games that don't get talked about enough
Especially on noctis mode
Probably one of the best metroicvania hidden gems tbh
People complain about crashes on the switch. But it’s been patched even recently to perform much better
Almost every single one of these was brand new to me! I love learning about new-to-me games.
Metroidvanias are one of my favourite genres, but I still don't think any game has surpassed Super Metroid, the Daddy! I feel like an addict whose always trying to recapture that first high...
Perhaps this list holds the answer somewhere?
The Daddy? The Mother would be more fitting since you have Samus, Mother Brain and the Queen Metroid
I might be in the minority but as a lover of metroidvania’s I think the Mummy Remastered is OVERRATED. I would recommend Narita Boy, Steam World Dig 2, Islets, Monster Sanctuary, and Gato Roboto as some fun MV’s
Gato was awesome, only downside was how short it was.
@@jeffgreen5429 💯💯💯 I was lucky to catch it on sale for 4 bucks and it took me about 4 hrs to beat it so it wasn’t a bad deal
Gato is fantastic, honestly I skipped Steamworld thinking it was a little more obvious and then Islets, monster, and Narita were on my list. I intend to follow this up if the reception is decent
@@Actionfigure_fit No, I felt the same having gotten it on sale.
Gato Roboto is tons of fun
I love metroidvania games!
Time Spinner looks great. Into my wishlist it goes!
Timespinner is well worth it
If you like castlevania games from the DS, you're gonna enjoy this. It's heavily inspired by Order of Ecclesia
Great List! I love metroidvanias and only own three of them (yet) 😀
They just keep dropping new ones, it's difficult to keep up
There’s a reason most of us haven’t played Vigil : The Longest Night. It was removed from the eStore like a year ago.
Unsighted was excellent! I’d also recommend Ender Lillies.
I recommend Tails of Iron for this list too. Love the art style and story.
Playing it now and absolutely loving everything about it. Not sure whether I’d call it a metroidvania but this game is a proper gem!
One of my favorite metroidvania is Blast Brigade vs the Evil Legion of Dr Cread. It's colorful and funny.
A must play in my book!
Definitely reminded me of a few I need to pull out of the backlog. Great list!
You almost had me and I didn't recognize any of these games, but thankfully a late game rally with unsighted saved me!
So many good games to play and so little time
Yep, the backlog is real!
I haven't heard of some of these. Well done, sir!
Found a couple I was on the fence about but will def download thanks to your recommendations. Have you tried Phoenotopia or Elliot Quest? They are more in the adventure genre but I thoroughly enjoyed and feel they don’t get a lot of attention. Thanks for the video!!

This list is chefs kiss but seriously awesome list i watch alot of switch videos and some of these never heard of them
My two fav games which go under the radar is Horace and Ender Lillies. Both amazing games and highly recommended
You got to try Omega Strike! It's like a metal slug metroidvania!
Also loved the 2 Alwa games!
The La Mulana series are some of the most brutal games I've ever played.
And it’s shorter than the average metroidvania, too 👌🏼
Anyone see Lost Epic and just get reminded of Muramasa the Demon Blade? I’d love to see that game get a remaster come to think of it
Some other titles that everyone should try
1. Grimvalor
2. Forgone
3. Superepic
4. 8 Doors
5. Sword of the Vagrant
6. Bladed Fury
7. Metal Unit
Astalon Is one of the best metro Vania games I played in years. I would definitely pick this one up. For me it’s a 10 out of 10.
This just introduced me to more backlog games. You know how I know? Because I forgot I got Unsighted before looking it up in the EShop.
I haven't played them myself, but HAAK and Islets seem to be getting good reviews!
Just a warning about Cathedral. While I found the difficulty perfect throughout the game the last boss has such a spike I never finished it. Is Lost Epic available in English? It looks beautiful!
Yep all games are available in english, I just didn't have any footage
There's a game that has you controlling a rogue AI trying to escape but I can't remember the name.
Not sure if it's a metroidvania though
I can think of a few, but not metroid, maybe Vesper? Or moonrider
@@SwitchCorner Thanks for the reply! Neither actually. I remember is one where you can infect other machines or devices and you move around like that.
Have you tried Afterimage and Kunai?
Vigil: The Longest Night is delisted from the Eshop
Vigil is a good netroidvania. Sadly it's delisted in the eshop. Dont know why though. -_-
Seriously! I did not know that! Hopefully it comes back. Doing a quick search, seems arguments with the publisher
I was just going to go download it! Hopefully it gets resolved.
Yeah this enraged me. The stupid ass publisher needs to get over whatever they are pissy about and put the game back up.
@@Godzilla1982 agreed. They should just put the game back up.
@Godzilla1982 China never get over nothing. They don't even talk about it. They are right, end of discussion 😂😂

Would the Teslagrad games count as “metroidvania” games?
Oh, and The Messenger is an absolute MUST PLAY-one of the best games on the eShop!
My 2x favorites that aren't super obvious but also not here are TIMESPINNER and CHASM.
Yes you're right I haven't played any of these metroidvanias
i cannot find Vigil: the longest night on eshop
La Mulana…man I gave up on that game. Not because it’s not good but just was so hard to figure out lol. Maybe one day I’ll go back to it.
Yeah it's a game that I recommend you have a notebook handy, it really is that difficult. Same with the first game
Was wondering if the new game Ebenezer would end up on these lists.
no one talks about cyber shadow and it drives me crazy
I'm missing Lost Epic and Astalon, the rest I have. Momodora is a great Metroidvania and I actually had fun with Hunters Legacy which I never hear anyone talk about, good for cat lovers and not too difficult.
Hunter's Legacy is a serious hidden gem. It's easy to overlook, but once I started playing it, I couldn't put it down.
Yeah i haven't even heard of them 😂 I'm not that big a fan of metroidvania though. Interested in Timespinner and Lost Epic.
Too bad Vigil: The Longest Night has been delisted on the eshop. I've always wanted to play it, but I stupidly waited too long :/
These all look too difficult for me. What's the easiest one? 😆
Thumbs down because Vigil is no longer in the US e-shop.
Someone else pointed that out, seems it's not any unfortunately and the devs are working to get It back on. Appears arguments with the publisher. When I put these together I look at my library, not the eshop sadly
I haven't seen a lot of these games before but this whole genre is not for me. I might give The Mummy game a shot though!!
Infernax is really good
Tails of Iron!
Nice video but I don't play games without save points
Metroidvanias nearly always have save points unless it's crossing over with roguelike such as robot named fight
Any game without save points is 100% not a Metroidvania though 🤔
I'm a little lost on this comment. Maybe getting confused with roguelikes
I refuse to play any game that is referred to as a "metroidvania". It's a horrible, cutesy term.
