CINDY is an illustrated short film about the challenge of finding true love. Just in time for Valentine's Day! The film began as our own labour of love. We'd come up with lines and scenes while at the gym together, and I'd hammer out artwork between freelance deadlines. We then were fortunate enough to receive funding from BravoFACT! (via Canada's CTV Network) which gave us the boost we needed (a deadline) to complete the film.

I think its a metaphor.
Actually Cindy deep down inside did not love herself so, that is why she decided to get close to all those people or rather boys because she felt empty or she just didn't love them at all. Also any boy or girl who doesn't love her also gets burned. Even when her pets loved her she still felt empty and that's why they ended up burning to death. (The DOLL on the other hand was weird) When Cindy went to prison she slowly learns to love herself and slowly loves others back. And she ends up slowly falling in love with the detective and he also begins to love her. THE HOLE THAT WAS ONCE IN HER HEART IS SLOWLY FILLING UP.

IT MAKES NO SENSE WITH THE CURSE THIS IS BULLSHIT
Eevee * they did ... somewhere around 6:20 the narrator says “Learn to love yourself... and you will light the way” or sum. Basically telling us she learned to love herself and that’s why her powers didnt burn the guy alive. She also stopped rejecting her powers and instead started using them for good which showed that she started accepting herself. But I must say the maker of this animation didn’t make these points super clear...
@@convolution223 hmm im pretty sure the curse is supposed to be a metaphor ? that cindy was so deprived of love from her mother that she /really/ wanted to get friends & enter a romantic relationship, as a way to make up for that lack of affection (and likely to cope w/ a lack of self esteem). but making bonds purely for outside validation is not healthy and often leads to unstable relationships (represented in the people getting burnt up).
of course the story couldve been better but the allegory’s there-
I actually wasn't expecting a happy ending for this delightfully grim little story--but I absolutely loved it. The rhyming is top notch and the art is gorgeous to look at.
Also, this line was my favorite: "Quarterback Chad promised romance but just wanted to shag. So she taught him a lesson. Don't be a douche-bag."
I also loved this disclaimer at the end of the short: None of Bryce's ex-boyfriends were actually burned in this production.

This was extremely refreshing to see - I was caught in the plot right away, because everything was such a surprise. Absolutely love the art, and the reference/tribute to shorts like "Vincent" from Tim Burton (I am not a die-hard TB fan, but I've always loves that one). Congratulations on the amazing work!

So Cindy was looking for someone who was truly love her. Not a love doomed to fail. It was as if her mother was the curse and she could tell if one's love for her was true or not. A spell of protection in love turned curse. At least that's how Cindy probly saw it, which made everyone else see it that way, too.
If the curse only affects those that don't love her genuinely then why would her cat and dog be toasted, animals Can't lie. it makes no sense.

Marco's focus is on his painting lessons, but we're definitely thinking about other films in the future!

Good point! Technically we should have specified manslaughter. As none of her murders were in the first degree, she didn't receive capital punishment as her sentence ;)
Are you saying your suspension of disbelief was not broken in the curse part then? Nor in the magical powers to burn with a touch? Or with pets and kids vanishing around her with no parents complaining? Or her killing people in public, in restaurants and in movie theaters with nobody knowing who she is, even a detective?

Abner, no not that much. The story established it's universe early on so you know where you stand. However at the point where she's tried she enters prison and she's turned into an executioner. The story implies a legal system like ours with capital punishment which makes you wonder why she didn't get executed, I mean she was found guilty for 12 deaths. And then it totally flips the rules around by telling you she also got paroled which is the straw that breaks the camel's back. Now if that was a comment on the fact that women get up to 60% less time for the same crimes as men it's a point I guess but far fetched to be caught at once. But if it's not then it's a flip. Didn't ruin the story, I loved it...kinda expected her to be way older when she got out (actually I expected her to never get out), but loved it.

That was sooo good! I can't stop from wonder how much did every single frame did take you to paint, because avery single of them (from the very first to the last) is a masterpiece and could stand out on itself! **
Thanks! Whew, making the art for this film nearly killed me. You're seeing four years of paintings in seven minutes. There are more than a thousand individual elements. Actually, some frames are quite ugly ... but they pass by fast enough that you don't notice :)
As for how long each took me to paint - that heavily depends on what kind of painting it was. A big background would take 4-5 hours. A character might take 45 minutes. A single element (like a flame) might take 10 minutes.

i dont know what i need to say, but bucci it take me in tears, i had pass through a almost same history, and now i was seeing your videos to remind myself my passions about draw and slowing taking it back and study, so i saw this one, a history... and i have learned more than color theory, value, i had learned to take it a little easy on me, i mean the process to love myself, im slowing it down a little, and im grateful to learn english a little to a point that i can understand this video. Wow, It was very disgusting until the end when I understood the metaphor for eternal "talents" to burn other people such as traimatic behaviour. The main character damaged many people first, then she learned to damage someone when she needed it, controling the power, and then she learned to use her power for the sakes she wanted. This is amazing illustration for scars becoming just our special details and then powers - not because of some magic sense, but because of lots of our long and hard work. Bravo.

The mother only cursed her with handsome/brave/strapping boys burning, so why did the animals burn I mean if they were both male then maybe, but the doll hasn't a freaking gender.
But even then why did the drool boy get burned? He wasn't exactly handsome/brave/strapping no offence of course.

Like what was the point? Don't sleep around? But she didn't she just wanted to find love and everyone was freaking burning, what makes detective guy any better? Was it his job? Was it because he captured criminals and in that case you can say he had a good heart? But that means she burned everyone INCLUDING A DOLL AND PETS because they were evil?

Because the mother was rejected at her wedding. She didn’t want Cindy to go through that, and the curse didn’t just mean boys.
The curse burns anyone that loves her or anyone she loves, the cat loved Cindy, so it burned, Cindy loved the doll and the dog, so both burned. It doesnt matter gender, species, race or appearance, what matters is that any form of love Cindy encounter’s will burn. Edit : also the purpose was meant to teach Cindy that love sucks. Which failed at the end.

And WHY was the detective sparred? He wanted nothing to do with her and even took her away from her dream job! If anything he hurt her the second most (the most being the mother). He only got attracted to her pyromania and her manic pixie dream girl persona. And why did the kids inherite the curse of it should essentially be broken by their mother finally getting hitched? Because the dec certainly didn’t break the spell so it must have been marriage that broke it.
In that case, why didn’t she try just marrying a piece of wood (since it can’t leave her at the alter) and then she’d be free.
Plus was she kissing prisoners and the dead because people only got toasted when she kissed them or they kissed her. Was she kissing her dolls and pets? Or was it simply any touch? They were pretty heavy on the kissing in the story so I’m confused.
This was a terrible, selfish, not thought out curse and now I’m flustered.
