I just played this for the first time last month! Blew my mind how expansive and immersive everything felt, and it’s gonna be awesome to see what choices you make
"Why does everyone hates humans? Is it because we skipped 200 years ahead?" No, it's because it's been only 40-ish years since you've discovered space flight and then immediately got into a war with the first species you've encountered. Doesn't invoke a lot of trust. Pressley (on your ship) would've told you that if you'd figured out how to talk to him as you left the bridge ;)
Humans also aren't liked because some think we're getting special treatment, mainly the Volus who believe we shouldn't have been given an embassy in such a small timeframe.
Im a huge fan of playing the way you want so you really get the full spectrum of victory/defeat in emotional games like this. But if you're somewhat of a completionist like me, its a good idea in the trilogy to try to do everything in your journal before embarking on main story stuff! Certain quests can be locked out depending on your progress in the game! Sometimes that could affect the story. Not by a huge amount, but where that really is going to start to matter is ME2. ME2 has really heavy consequences for some things you do/ don't do. Im super excited to see someone experience Mass Effect for the first time. This game holds a special spot in my heart 😊
This is one of the greatest sci fi games of all times and loving your excitement for it can't wait to see where your Shepard goes i'll be watching this and its sequels closley
I am genuinely excited to see someone play ME series for the first time. as a tip don't really overthink it about weapons, in second and third part the limitations are loosened and sytems changed, so you will be able to use any weapon, but will be limited in other ways
I like your enthusiasm, Ace. This series has one of the most engrossing stories in all of science fiction. The real stars, though, are the universe itself and the characters, especially your teammates. Dialogs and interactions with your team are really the game, so it's good to check with them after every main mission going forward. I'm proceeding directly to Part Two!
I was literally watching your skyrim playthrough this last week. Funny how I discover your channel literally days ago and now you start playing one of the most heartwarming series to me. Godspeed Commander.
You're really hitting the faves here! ME1 has aged decently well, it's a bit clunky in places but not enough to get in the way of the story - and the story is one of the best in gaming. Hopefully everyone in the comments will keep it spoiler free, and even advice can sometimes be a lot. Just read, talk to everybody, and you'll learn the mechanics easy enough. There aren't any super complicated tricks to learn or builds to optimize.
Okay thanks for this! And I do hope the comments are kept spoiler-free too! Honestly I'm itching to record more right now 😅😅 I hope you'll be down to join me on this adventure!
❤finally somebody new into the mass effect trilogy ride Tyvm for playing this all the way I'm really looking forword to watch u on this journey welcome to the mass effect world ❤❤❤❤❤
I was actually disappointed by ME2 and ME3 gameplays and mechanics! What i expected from Bioware is that they use their experience to correct the mistakes they made in the first game, not turn it into a pure 'gears of waresque" shooter. I also dislike the atmosphere of the latter 2 games compared to the first one, no mystery and exploration, cyberpunk aspect,...
you've got such a friendly face, just some sense of comfortability that i cant put my finger on. love what your doing, heard skyrim in the opening - now ive got to watch that series before this upcoming mass effect one 😂
Thank you. I am very pleased that I found your channel. You're definitely a smart and funny guy and it's a pleasure to watch you play. I also like that you don't try to choose every line in every dialogue and don't spend a lot of time exploring every corner for loot. My wife also enjoyed watching it. Looks like this will be an interesting playthrough. But please consider increasing the volume of in-game dialogue slightly.
Major achievement getting through reading the intro card before it disappears, barely anyone manages it 😂 first time I've seen Nilhus resort to telepathy rather than speaking, too 😅
Just found your channel bro. Watched some of your Skyrim play through and started your WoW play through. Now this. I gotta say you’re so wholesome. My 6 year old has started getting into video games and lets plays and it’s so hard to find TH-camrs who aren’t constantly cussing or inappropriate. I’m not against it by any means but can’t really watch that stuff with my kid lol. But I def can with you. Keep it up bro. Mass effect is the best sci fi RPGs easily. ME1 like others have said has pretty clunky gameplay especially when it comes to using abilities but it’s a lot better in ME2 and 3. A tip with dialogues: in the wheel choices to the left are just infomation gathering. The ones on the right are ones that advance the conversation. Usually the top right are the paragon choice and the bottom right is renegade. Choosing those advance the respective meter. There are choices that effect that and dialogue option that are locked behind being advanced enough in your meter. Long story short. Choose a side and stick with that. Charm is paragon and intimidate is for renegade. Hopefully this makes sense. lol oh and after every major Mission chat with each squad member! That goes for 2 and 3. With squad members unless you’re playing on Insanity just bring your favorite squad members. Don’t worry about the different strengths all that means is what abilities they have. For the most part anyway. Can’t wait for you to continue the journey!
Don't worry about your tech/combat/biotic balance too much. I played through all 3 games on insanity as an infiltrator, often with a wildly skewed squad and it wasn't a big deal. It can be a good idea to have shepard or a squadmate fully specced into electronics and decryption (doesn't need to be the same person as long as both are present in the active squad) since certain locked loot containers may require varying levels in one or the other.
Spoiler, if you enjoy a good story, a good character writing you're gonna look at ve this saga, if you are a little emotional, you're gonna cry at some points, not gonna say when, where and why tho
@KingdomAce - You most def channeled Saren exact thoughts on seeing Nihlus on Eden Prime. I can just see Saren standing there thinking exactly what you said at 1:09:30 in-game. Saren was like its on sight Nihlus lol. Love your Shepard so dope keep going!
Loving the beginning of your Mass Effect experience. I’m really enjoying your commentary and thought process in the game. Looking forward to watching you play through the trilogy!!
I knew by the voice that Captain Anderson was voiced by Lance Reddick. I loved him in the Destiny series. Absolute goat of a VA and he regularly played Destiny 2. Gotta pay my respects
Loving the gameplay so far! You are hitting all the main points. A few words from the back seat: Don't be afraid to talk. Talking = xp and xp = more levels. Also, ignore electronics and decryption at your own risk. Fair warning!
I love this series! I got a once in a lifetime cut scene in the third game due to my choices. I looked and looked for the same scene and have NEVER FOUND ANOTHER LIKE IT!
Just found your channel, digging the playthrough! Just wanted to say that the voice actor for Kaidan also voices Carth, a companion in Knights of the Old Republic!
No matter what class you chose, you will still be able to use all weapons, no matter what you may specialize in; you will still be able to use any other weapon.
Didn't finish video yet, but to hack these locks without omni-gel, you actually supposed to avoid orange/yellow and red blocks, not stubornly trying to hit them😅 Also use all dialog options of investigation, before moving to the options on the right - it helps you to understand the lore of the game better.
Yessss. Another playthrough of my favorite game series. I have a good feeling about this playthrough. Love to see you digging it so much. Definitely subbing. Ready to hop on this ride with y'all.
38:43 i think there is a mod on nexus that changes Sarens model to how he was supposed to look like in this moment (based off of concept art), but the only reason he looks like this right now, is due to limitations back then, like Saren was supposed to be a white looking Turian with black robes and such as the concept art would show.
Nice. I always pick infiltrator. I feel that class fits a commander best RP-wise. He's not just an ordinary simple-minded soldier. He's a mastermind, trained in advanced skills and tactics.
I think you had asked for comment regarding the extent of consequences, and this is spoiler-free (well, to anyone who has already watched the video). Wrex tells you something like "I'm giving you fair warning, I'm going to kill Fist." ...And then because you brought him, he kills Fist of course. ME2/ME3 will remember that Fist is dead. These consequences will never lock you out of later missions or block you from beating the game. They will change the experience enough that this will be a series you'll either want to come back to and replay to explore further or, as I am, experience it through someone else's perspective. Hope you enjoy your journey.
I love your enthusiasm and I hope you continue to enjoy your playthrough (Or DID, I haven't looked to see how far you've gotten, or if you've finished the games yet.) However, I do have to admit I had to clutch my head in amused frustration when at the start of your ME1 playthrough, you found some better armor for your squad, didn't know how to equip it, assumed you COULDN'T equip it, and turned it to Omni-Gel. ^_^ LOL Growing Pains.
I didn’t know u could run though the citadel so fast. I’ve always took my time and explored 😂. But I’m glad u enjoy it…. I just like to get into the lore and universe. So I talked to everybody, explore everything and listen to all entries.
New to your channel after the almighty algorithm recommended your Skyrim playthroughs to me. I'm excited for you - I like the whole Mass Effect trilogy, but Mass Effect 2 is still one of my top 3 games of all time. I've logged a frankly ridiculous amount of hours in this series... Engineer FemShep w/a shotgun for most of them, it's definitely my combat niche, but I also had some pretty fun Infiltrator and Vanguard playthroughs so I like your choice!
I just started my 6th playthrough of the series! Get ready for an exiting journey. Think your choices very well, and although the end won't change that much, the journey to the end will.
I know they tried to make this into a movie with Matthew Fox playing Shepard (dude from Lost) but it failed pre-production, not surprisingly. IMO it needs to be a series, like an HBO series. I have so much trust in HBO.
oh shit, i found your skyrim and swtor videos and enjoyed your reactions and was gonna comment that you should try mass effect. based on the games you've played on the channel you'll probably love this series
"2 days ago". Im glad youtube siggested me so i can join from the beginning. :) Im all in for the manly tears that will be shed, no one can avoid those in this game. Also the decrypting minigame. edited:Nevermind, you got it. Should really watch video full before commenting. :)
Fun Fact: Given how quickly and cleanly Saren killed Nihlus, it seems to suggest that Nihlus trusted Saren so much he was comfortable lowering his shields around Saren… that or it was a major writing oversight by BioWare. Flip a coin.
not an actual spoiler: you'll want to have charm or intimidate at 7th or 8th level at some point in the game for some situation. deliver your points accordingly.
I went with colonist war hero too but I went vanguard, I'm a short to medium range guy, sometimes I'll snipe but most of the time I prefer to get in the thick of it in their face like a raging train, never liked sneaking. When I need to shoot from a far I snipe with a pistol, especially on red dead redemption, pissed so many people off, claimed I was hacking, no its just skill like that old grandpa sniper gamer guy. Though I tend to use assault riffle to snipe or a bllt action
For some reason instead of avoiding the obstacles you seem to want to ram them when you're doing the encryption although every time you touch an object you start over you're not going to get anywhere if you keep pressing the button into the object look pretend your playing frogger
You don't need Omni-gel if you're doing the mini game it's only needed if you wanna skip it all together. I guess in early game it's fine scrapping all the loot (hurts watching tho xD ) But I'd check the stuff first then scrap if they're not good enough (Just remember you're giving squad mates gear too so your trash could be their next upgrade :P ) Your squad does get "Downed" but not "Killed" unless pre-determined in-game by Story and the like so no need to save scum on that :P ME 1 weapon systems are a bit different(VS ME2 and 3) since it relies on a cool down system, where each shot "heats up" your gun depending on the gun the heating is different and you'll hear an alarm when your gun overheats and needs to cool down (You can see it on your bottom left underneath the Gun Icon)
My favourite franchise ever and you picked my favourite class ever. I don't want any spoilers, but if you also picked Jack as a romance option in ME2, dude, how can we think so alike?
"Why don't we have cameras in these suits." You actually do. I'm not sure how much you talked to Ashley, but she actually confirms your suits have cameras. Kind of a....plot hole considering cameras in suits should literally be used as evidence for what happened on the field. I don't know why Bioware never really took that aspect seriously.
Jane Shepard is the canon Shepard because she’s the original design. John Shepard was created for marketing because most players are Males. But even I prefer Jane Shepard.
Okay so, Mass Effect is WAY MORE similar to Star Trek than Star Wars. Both are space operas with a lot of pseudo-science talk and focus on characters and politics.
Bro noo not male Shepard 😭 honestly worth restarting just to pick femshep. The voice acting is way better. But I guess this’ll make your second playthrough more enjoyable. Male Shepard is still iconic in his own right
Charm and intimidation do the same thing. Taking both is redundant and wasting points that could be spent on other talents. Charm is the paragon adjacent skill while intimidation is for the renegade path. That is just some friendly advice for someone new to this game. Take it or leave it lol. I hope you enjoy this trilogy as much as I did
that is just not true. you can pump up both in this game far enough to have both options available, and that's where the RP comes in. This isn't ME2 or ME3. And combat in this game is not hard enough to need to save points for skills, even on Insanity.
The dialogue is separated into parts on purpose. Positive, neutral, and aggressive. Your choices MATTER! They carry through ALL THREE GAMES!
I noticed that for the most part but now I'll be extra attentive! Thanks!
"This Garrus, I feel like he is a favourite." Man you have no idea. If you keep playing the games you'll know lol
Echoing, when you walk into hell, there is a short list of people you want at your side. It's begins and ends with Garrus.
Garrus is the king of "Best Bro" in all of gaming
@@basilisk..definitely. And I loved his romance
@@jkoehler82 no doubt garrus jump right after shepard into hell but also no doubt tali would make a bet who gets down faster xD

It truly is expansive, Iv'e already beat all three Mass Effects multiple times and they just don't ever get old.
"Why does everyone hates humans? Is it because we skipped 200 years ahead?"
No, it's because it's been only 40-ish years since you've discovered space flight and then immediately got into a war with the first species you've encountered. Doesn't invoke a lot of trust. To be fair, the turians attacked first, so...
@@williamthehammer1 To be fair, if I catch you opening a gateway to hell, I'd be inclined to attack you for that too ;)
Wasn't it the Turians who started that war though?
@@LBCAndrew Yes they did.

I've never done the Samesh thing with Ashley, that was a really nice extra touch having her know the dead woman.
That was a good sidequest.
This is one of the greatest sci fi games of all times and loving your excitement for it can't wait to see where your Shepard goes i'll be watching this and its sequels closley

Don't worry to much about the squad selection "tech, combat, bio" just take whoever you like ^^
Never seen anything from Mass Effect. Looking forward to the journey you take us on 🎉
Just a heads up, left dialogue options are usually additional options that won’t end that part of the dialogue, whereas right options usually are.

ahhh, miss those elevator rides in ME1

Yes, best to decide R or P and stick to it.
Haven't seen the whole video, maybe you figure it out later, but when you try to get into a door, get into the center.

If you sell items instead of making omni jell, you get money pretty quick. 👍
You don't need Omni-gel if you're doing the mini game it's only needed if you wanna skip it all together. I guess in early game it's fine scrapping all the loot (hurts watching tho xD ) But I'd check the stuff first then scrap if they're not good enough (Just remember you're giving squad mates gear too so your trash could be their next upgrade :P )
Your squad does get "Downed" but not "Killed" unless pre-determined in-game by Story and the like so no need to save scum on that :P
ME 1 weapon systems are a bit different(VS ME2 and 3) since it relies on a cool down system, where each shot "heats up" your gun depending on the gun the heating is different and you'll hear an alarm when your gun overheats and needs to cool down (You can see it on your bottom left underneath the Gun Icon)
the base game does not have headshots in me1, it starts in me2, so the new me1 is much easier if I rremember correctly
My favourite franchise ever and you picked my favourite class ever.
I don't want any spoilers, but if you also picked Jack as a romance option in ME2, dude, how can we think so alike?
Tali in this game 😩❤
"Why don't we have cameras in these suits." You actually do. I'm not sure how much you talked to Ashley, but she actually confirms your suits have cameras. Kind of a....plot hole considering cameras in suits should literally be used as evidence for what happened on the field. I don't know why Bioware never really took that aspect seriously.
If you get to Mass Effect 2, go with Tali for the best romance
"Shepard!" 💕
The goat!!
I'm Shepard and this is my favorite let's play on this channel
RIP Nihlus's mouth XD
Hope you like this game.....its fan base is just as crazy as Trekkies, Starwars, and Hogwarts
Jane Shepard is the canon Shepard because she’s the original design.
John Shepard was created for marketing because most players are Males.
But even I prefer Jane Shepard.
Yeah Nihlus is bugged his mouth normally moves when he talked or at least it did on the 360 when it first came out
YESSSSSSSSS
Hope you enjoy and come along with me for the ride! 🙏
love these games
I always go Infiltrator in this game!
GARRUSSS my best friend my pal my rotten solider my sweet cheese my good time boy
is the yakuza series in the plans?
Tali best girl❤
It's been my observation that most streamers go with "Sole Survivor" actually. Which is a bit annoying for spoilery reasons I won't get into here.
Oh....hello ma'am.....lmao
Greastest triology off all time
You missed out on several conversations before speaking with Captain Anderson and Nihlus. Could have learned some lore. Just sayin'.
I hope you enjoy this trilogy as much as I did
Wish I knew that before recording episode 2, but thanks, i know now! haha
that is just not true. you can pump up both in this game far enough to have both options available, and that's where the RP comes in. This isn't ME2 or ME3. And combat in this game is not hard enough to need to save points for skills, even on Insanity.
Awww damn picked male shep - sad fem shep has much better voice acting then male shep
play the witcher
