On the theme of nature or ziran (tzu-jan): the 'self-so.' Hippie Daoism, but also quite a responsible scholarly treatment. For my Daoism class, Dickinson College
Excellent lecture, thank you. I did not expect to be enthralled and captivated into this summary of Watts and his interpretation of the Tao philosophy. And as someone with an anarchist bent, I'm looking forward to your lecture on the political views of the Tao Te Ching 😉
One could argue that to take in or learn from another culture is not appropriation. One doesn't take it away from one culture but rather add it to another. This leads me nicely to balance, as to bring something in that would not otherwise be there could help balance a given situation. Just like taking balance from by learning about nature (or dare we include the nature of human beings). Alan saw favour in opening oneself up, as could be illustrated by his own use of experiences. To live without learning seems almost like to just existing. This may echo the point that the person clicking on this video is not the same as the same person sipping tea later.

That sounds like a very interesting school you went to! Great discussion. I love Alan Watts, could listen to him speak all day.
Cultural appropriation is a healthy form of flattery not a problem.
